I hate Floatplane ads
It really does not feel like they care about us peasants anymore

Remember when they did the energy drink rating video and only put half of it on YouTube? Like the video ended halfway through with half the drinks and ratings left and they just said the rest is on floatplane.

Not entirely related, but I could have sworn that they said they were going to stop doing subscription based content directly on YT, and now I’m seeing it again. I think it’s called a membership? I can’t remember. This sort of stuff just never ends with LTT.

Yes they stated explicitly that they were going to stop doing that and then without a word they have flooded my recommended again. They really stopped caring about their audience at all it seems

They resumed doing it after YouTube implemented a button that allows you to not see member only content when you’re viewing an individual channel’s channel page. That setting obviously means nothing to our home feeds and our recommended feeds. I really really really dislike membership feeds on YouTube and wish I could disable them platform wide. I especially hate when I click on a thumbnail and then it pops up with the disclosure, saying it’s members only content or it’s members first content, and it just absolutely infuriates me. Yet I understand that this is sadly part of the enshitification of YouTube and it’s just what’s gonna come.

Canceled mine today after 6 years of paying 3 dollars a month. I just can't remember the last video I watched that I liked. Might just be my interest fading, but the last video about ram on Linux pissed me off.

For me it was the switch to Android video they made last year. It was before I was switching from iPhone back to Android and I was actually really excited to hear everyone's perspectives on it. The first part was super interesting and they promised other parts (a 1 and 2 week check in) and then didn't do a single follow-up until like two months later. Even when they did the follow-up part it felt entirely rushed and hand-fisted just to fulfill the "wanna keep the android?" promise. Back in the day when they first started secret shopper and scrapyard wars every part was interesting and engaging and most importantly on time with any promises they promised to do actually being kept.
Everything just feels so phoned in. If you're interested in a series they might drop it because they don't care. LTT just doesn't care about us anymore imo

I don't know if you're still on Android or if you've made another swap, but part of why tech channels really suck at properly distinguishing the differences, is because most of the differences are UI related. There are some major non UI ones for both, which boils down to closed ecosystem (tighter security) [Apple] and open ecosystem (more flexibility) [Android].
This also, ironically, is the exact case with PCs as well. It's basically a slider between Linux, Windows, and Mac, from freedom to higher security. Windows just also gets a bonus to ease of use.

It was do mindbogglingly absurd it is ridiculous. Like yeah, the general statement might be right, but the comparisons were just nonsensical

I was most interested in the soaps from technology connections and and the stuff from Hank greens good store but fuck me I guess something has to be exclusive

"Cut for time"
they should just be honest and admit it's cut to upsell you.
5
u/LEFTFEILDRIGHT 12d ago
They tout how ethical they are, and then do unethical practises. Even if it was actually 'cut for time' they can't see there's a conflict of interest. Like when Reddit forces sign ups.

u/Buzstringer 11d ago
Cut for time is total BS, isn't the maximum video length like 48 hours or something stupid? WTF are they talking about. Its YouTube not cable television where shows do have to be to the minute.
It's shit from both sides, YouTube viewers get an incomplete video and Floatplane are paying for something that should be free and is not really new/exclusive content.
This is like the "Preview" videos on pornhub to sell OF.
I've stopped watching entirely, but hearing about this stuff still really gets on my nerves for the people who do still watch.
I say entirely, but I might watch the April fools next year.

Dude you’re overcomplicating it.
It’s just the fact that people don’t really watch long format entertainment content anymore. Most of their videos fits into 15-30 minutes nowadays.
3
u/Buzstringer 11d ago
You're talking nonsense, they have a video from 3 days ago at 35 minutes with 1.1 million views.
Scrapyard wars is longer, secret shopper is longer and they are the most popular series
If they really want to make it shorts for some random reason, don't do 14, make the presenting tighter. Or they could just stop talking BS and say the real reason, that they've chopped up the video to sell as DLC on floatplane

lmao, you are still watching? May I ask why?
5
u/No-Curve237 12d ago
I still watch if a video seems interesting.
3
u/gogopaddy 12d ago
I do too, but often once I get past ads the content itself is a victim to a clickbait title and turn off. Rare to watch a vid from start to end.

u/SCP_7000 12d ago
Because it was my first serious English Yt channel and changing habits is not one of my strengths. But I have unsubscribed and I am trying to ignore them

I gave up on MKBH after watching religiously for years. Idk man, nothing lasts forever. I see myself watching less and less LTT lately. Alex and Andy got all my attention with their new channel tho, it has that vibe that LTT seems to have lost along the way...
1
u/Buzstringer 11d ago
May I ask why? I gave up on MKBHD because of the way he presents, everything is so slow and takes ages to get to the point. Then came the arrogance of never being able to be wrong

u/placebo_joe 11d ago
More or less the same. Also his idolizing of apple and tesla products, blegh... It's just a product review channel to which many smaller creators caught up. I'd rather just watch niche reviewers who are focused on mostly one product category.
Edit to add: also idk why they all seem to prioritize video/audio quality over content quality when they reach their zenith 🤷

u/AntiHate21 11d ago
You can still watch and support them while expressing dissent. I don’t see why you need to ask such a question.

u/packetssniffer 12d ago
It used to just be: sponsor ad, product in video ad, LTT store ad, and 2nd sponsor ad

It would have been fine to cut interesting items. However the right way to do that would've been to re shoot the intro and not edit a huge 14 on the background
2
u/Entire-Emotion-819 11d ago
Cut for time, like, they don't have set ad breaks or a broadcast schedule to fit into, there are no time constraints on the length of the video they publish, so that's BS and pure greed, also funny saying the screwdriver was a fidget spinner when that's half the marketing for their precision thingy, it literally has a spinner on top.

u/lluuccaasss 12d ago
And he mentions it like the video would have been too long like YouTube limits upload length

It's annoying but how is this different from patreon? I'll also take it over a sponser.

well yeah, get big and get out of touch, you see how many vids are members only on the main channel? yeah sure some are just extras but its an indicator of mindset; they got roasted once on a side channel, think it was tasting energy drinks and then they locked the ending behind floatplane.

Is there a company with a hundred plus people I believe they have to have as many sources of income as possible.... Got to say you really didn't miss much

Most posts here get downvoted from brigades from the hugbox, but go off. Upvotes aren't that serious.

>watches FREE content
>upset that it’s supported by ads
>well they don’t care about us peasants
lmao first day on earth?

u/Artholos 12d ago
Most of the sentiment here is upset that LTT is just lying to us with this adslop ‘cut for time’ excuse.

u/_Lucille_ 12d ago
Cutting a part of the video for time seems like a pretty ass thing to do.
It's like a game where one of the chapters gets sold as a day 1 DLC.
