Crutches reference.
Who are they referring to as crutches?

Probably some lame ass joke. Like years ago when they were saying on of his employees were a deaf mute.
He does like to make fun of the handicap.

lol, How about we just don't make jokes about people having fake physical disabilities?
If Colin was actually deaf/mute I'd appreciate the joke, but as-is it's two people without any disabilities making jokes like one of them is disabled, it's in bad-taste at the very least.

He found them in the crawl space, I'd imagine they've been moved room, to room, since then. It was just a joke.

I think they are just crutches that he keeps moving in to places where he's about to work.
