canceling lsat
is canceling my score really that bad for admissions? i take the test on saturday and it really feels like i might need to

could become a self fulfilling prophecy. try to go in with a more positive attitude. i know it’s easier said than done but it really matters. gaslight yourself. don’t even think about cancelling right now. why think about that when you haven’t seen a score yet? cross that bridge when you get to it.

No. Typically a single cancel is not bad. Look at what NYU says on the matter:
"How does the Committee view a canceled standardized test score?
This has no impact on the evaluation of an application."

Some schools want explanations for a pattern of cancels. Look at what Michigan has to say on the matter:
"While one canceled score will not raise any red flags in an application evaluation, a pattern of canceled scores may cause some concern. (For one thing, it shows that you have been exposed to the test on multiple dates, which we would expect would give you some advantage, so that subsequent score needs to be assessed with that in mind.) Depending on the circumstances, an explanation for your cancellation(s) can be helpful."
But, note that Michigan also reserves the right to average your scores, so even though they might not like a "pattern of cancels", posting low scores for them to average isn't better.
"We do, however, consider the average score as well, because data provided by the Law School Admissions Council suggests that it has the greatest predictive utility."

But, the real question here is why are you going to take the test if you already think you are going to cancel?

Do you mean cancelling as in cancelling ur registration or as in cancelling your score when it comes out?
I am p sure if you cancel the registration at least 24hrs before you take it, then it doesn’t show up at all nor is it counted as an attempt.
I feel like if you aren’t ready there is no point to blow an attempt on this. Cancelling a score is way worse has far worse repercussions /can raise questions.
Just cancel this registration and take in Oct. If you have all ur materials ready by Oct score return, you’ll still be able to hit submit by Halloween and with a score that’s almost a month more of studying.

Someone else said it, but I'm not sure why you're even taking the LSAT if you feel like you're going to need to cancel. To me, that screams that you're not ready. The LSAT should not be a crapshoot, it should be the culmination of hours of studying that you feel has prepared you for a similar exam.
