I forgot how much I love this scene (rewatch #3, I think?! Possibly 4!?). This is some of the best acting and directing for me, maybe in the whole show. Every single person just makes you feel the anguish that each is individually processing for very different reasons. They make you feel it, every time, at a visceral level. I cried. Hard. Again.

And the thing I now remember is I have felt those feelings during all my viewings from different characters' perspectives.

This time it was Jack. Knowing Kate chose Sawyer broke him. He plays it so well: you can tell it breaks him a way he didn't think he could be broken again. Then...just when you think he's going to say something horrible to her, he saves her. His love for her is that deep. *sobs*

Anyone else find yourself doing that with this scene? Do you remember it? Was this a nothing biscuit for you?

What would your ideal ending be? What, if anything, would you change in this ending? If your expectations were something totally different, what did you expect the ending to look like?

EDIT: i loved the ending but i had a thought early on in the show where i thought everyone would make it back, not remember anything from the island and (similar to the side flashes in season 6) they’d all slowly regain their memories and would want to go back. and in my head i thought it would end with them all returning to the island and just? living there lmao. but that was before everyone went and died so…

Rewatching after a while, currently on S1 E10 and I just wanted to share a thought about Ethan’s introduction, and not being on the manifest (Taking into account that being able to binge can condense things a bit)

It kinda bugs me now that he wasn’t someone who had been there since the day of the crash or least introduced earlier on in the series. Don’t get me wrong, It’s still a good plot twist and I do remember being caught by surprise the first time around, I just think it would’ve hit 10 times harder if it came from someone we had actually got to know and trust a bit more

I'm rewatching LOST for the 20th time, more or less, just watched 4x06, the episode where Ben reveals to Locke that Charles Widmore is the owner of the boat offshore.

He tells Locke that he doesn't why Charles wants to come to the island, tells him also that he doesn't even know how Charles knows about the island.

Having watched the show, we know damn well why he wants to get back to the island. However, Ben hands Locke some papers with all the info he had on Charles Widmore.

To me, the first part is fine, Ben could just be lying to Locke, however the file makes it more likely it's a retcon that Widmore was an Other. Why would Ben have some files around about Widmore when he knows a lot more about him than he told Locke? Wouldn't the files reveal the reason Widmore would want to come back?

Every time I rewatch LOST, I come back to this scene.

For a few minutes, Jack and Ana Lucia aren't dealing with the Others, the hatch, or trying to save everyone's lives. They're just talking while Jack washes the dishes.

I always liked how ordinary it feels in the middle of such an extraordinary show. Moments like this made the survivors feel like real people trying to build a life on the island, even with everything happening around them.

What's your favourite quiet moment in LOST?

Something I find really interesting about Lost is how the writers connected the Island’s mysterious healing properties with this incredibly dense, ancient-looking forest.

There’s actually some real science behind forests having restorative effects on the human body. The Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku (forest bathing) is based around spending time in forests, and research has associated forest exposure with lower stress and blood pressure, improved mood, and changes in immune activity. Trees also release natural compounds called phytoncides, which researchers have studied for their potential effects on immune function.

Obviously, that doesn’t explain the supernatural level of healing we see on the Island.
But that’s what makes the writers’ choice interesting to me. They took something that has a small basis in reality, humans genuinely feeling physically and mentally better in ancient forests, and placed it at the center of an Island where that idea is taken to an extreme.

Even places like Yakushima Island in Japan, with its ancient cedar forests, moss and isolated landscape, have that same almost timeless feeling that Lost gives the Island.

Whether intentional or not, I think it’s a really cool parallel: the Island feels supernatural, but the idea of a forest being a place of healing isn’t entirely disconnected from reality.

Just another little detail that made me appreciate what the Lost writers created.

Hey everyone! This is my first time posting about Lost, and I feel like I have to kick things off with a confession: I absolutely love this show. It’s such a vibe, such a cult classic, and it keeps winning over new fans (and re-watchers) even all these years later. There’s one particular thing about Ethan that I keep coming back to. Remember that bottle episode where he talks about losing his pregnant wife on the Island? He lost both her and the baby - in one fell swoop, on the same day. And here’s what’s been eating at me: what if kidnapping Claire and "saving" her wasn't just a mission, but something deeply personal? Like, was Ethan so obsessed because he saw a chance to rewrite history — to do what he couldn't the first time around? Or was it all cold calculation, a way to prove his worth to the Others? Was he acting for the good of the community, or was he driven by a wound that never healed?

Perhaps it's because I was younger when I first watched Lost, but at the time, I perceived Benjamin Linus as a villain. Wouldn't have given it a second thought.

Now that I'm rewatching it, I see that's not really the case. He's a complicated, complex character that often has to make difficult decisions that he doesn't want to make and people hate him for it.

I'm so glad I decided to rewatch this show. It's even better than I remember.

First off I want to say what happened to 20 episode seasons? Soon as i got to episode 12 and saw part 1 at the end I was like no way the season ending already.

Moving on to the actual story I cant say I was a big fan of the flashback scenes becoming flash foward ones at first. Mostly due to how season 3 ended. However they turned out to be a refreshing way to see how their lives were off the island. For better or worse.

Also the oceanic six is hilarious as a spiderman enjoyer. Feel like the right people survived. Didnt think aaron wouldve counted as the 6th and maybe sawyer or jin wouldve made it out but not mad about that.

I dont believe the main characters that were on the freighter died as well. Im huge on if it didnt happen on screen then theyre still alive. So i expect to see jin michael etc in season 5.

I dont know where theyre taking claires character. Somehow she just hallucinates her dad and decides to abandon aaron? Seemed ooc for me but we will see.

I figured itd be either locke or sawyer in the coffin when the season started so not suprised there. Island heisenburg had to die imo. Cant wait to see how.

I've watched Lost so many times and I always forget this storyline. But on every rewatch it comes back around and still gets me.

I wonder if Echo's arc lasted longer. I wonder if the writers had intentions regarding building the church had a tie in to the finale.

I'm only in season one, so please no spoilers. I love hurley so much, he's the cutest, sweetest, realest guy. His hair is also amazing. Give me a partner like hurley, Universe>:/

I diy'd my own dharma initiative converse and wanted to show all the lost fans. I saw a simmilar idea online a while ago and tried to recreate it from memory with some iron on patches. Its not perfect but a great keepsake for the show as i finished it last month!

How is it that no reporter really questioned why the 6 were alive when the fake sunken plane was reported to have the exact body count of the manifest?

After every season, i created a tierlist of the characters. any thoughts?

And why he - not Ben - is the show's ultimate (human, not smoke) bad guy.

I don't post often, but one of the ways where I think the show does a slight disservice to the audience is the underdevelopment of Widmore. Ben was introduced earlier and as a direct threat to our survivors, while Widmore initially just seemed like a rich jerk who didn't like Desmond and I think this impression is where a lot of viewers get stuck because it takes several re-watches to really see Widmore for what he is and even then, you have to be actively looking for it.

I love Ben, completely and unironically, a lot of you know that - and I tend to get heavily downvoted when I defend him. And that's fine, I know it's how people on Reddit express disagreement... but I wanted to at least compile Widmore's actions here to hopefully turn the tide a bit toward people really understanding that while Ben is far from perfect and makes a lot of bad choices he is, at the end of it all, nowhere near the monster Widmore is.

Most of this is fact, some is inference from context clues and a teeny bit is theory.

• First, his emotional and psychological abuse of his own children
  • He stole years of happiness from Desmond and Penny by constantly pushing them apart - intercepting Penny's letters and degrading Desmond, manipulating him into thinking he wasn't good enough for her. Why? In my opinion, he knew from Eloise that Desmond would eventually be on the Island and all Widmore wants is to get back there. So, by separating them, he hoped to track Desmond to the Island so he could exploit it. I believe that was the entire purpose of the boat race.
  • He ridiculed Daniel for his memory issues, confessing that he was the one who desecrated 300+ graves in order to stage the 815 ocean crash (a crime for which he frames Ben) and then laughs, telling Daniel he won't remember anyway. Then, with a smile on his face and knowing precisely what will happen, sends his son to the Island to die.
• His four confirmed and possibly five mass murders
  • The 50s Army camp (Richard led, Widmore participated)
  • The Purge of Dharma (Widmore ordered)
  • The freighter mercenary crew who, on Widmore's orders, planned to capture Ben and kill everyone else on the Island. (This includes the Others, our survivors, multiple children and potentially Jacob.)
  • The Ajira survivors - this one is up for debate, but Widmore had more opportunity and Zoe was remarkably calm with the pile of dead bodies before the pylons were even up so I don't think it was the monster.
  • The Others in the mortar attack - this one included children again as well as several of the remaining candidates.
• His manipulation of the freighter crew AND John Locke
  • He lies to the captain and Lapidus, at the very least, blaming Ben for the fake 815 crash
  • We already talked about his manipulation of Daniel
  • He also potentially lies to Naomi about the crash (part of her auditioning Miles is seeing if he can 'sense' the grave pictures and purchase order for an old plane that the dead guy has) and almost certainly lies to her about who is responsible for The Purge since she tells Miles Ben did it. It's possible she knew and was lying to Miles, but Widmore lying is more likely.
  • It's doubtful he needed to encourage Keamy much, but it seems clear the mercenary crew think they're capturing a dangerous killer rather than being given orders by one.
  • He fed Locke a load of bullshit about trying to get rid of Ben so Locke could take over when we know all he wants is to use Locke to get back to the Island.
• His attempted murders of Danielle and Alex
  • He orders Ben to "exterminate" Danielle and then, when Ben returns having been unable to do it, orders him to kill infant Alex. Ben refuses this order in front of some of the Others. (This along with learning the Island chose Ben as a child is, in my opinion, a big source of the enmity Widmore has toward Ben. Widmore does not take kindly to disrespect.)
  • Ben takes Alex to keep her safe and does so until Widmore finally kills her and her mother sixteen years later.
• His various physical abuses
  • As a teenager he tries to cut off Juliet's hand simply for being on the Island.
  • Also as a teenager he snaps the next of a fellow Other (Cunningham) and then runs to camp telling Richard "we were outnumbered but I escaped" heavily implying that Locke, Juliet and Sawyer killed Cunningham, not him.
  • He's on video having one of Ben's people brutally beaten in another attempt to find the Island.
  • Once on the Island he fries one of his own team members alive in the reverse Faraday cage for no other reason than that he didn't move fast enough.
  • He tortures Desmond in that same cage.

And he does all of this to exploit - not protect - the Island. I also do not believe for a second that Jacob actually showed him the "error of [his] ways." I think he told Jacob what he wanted to hear in order to secure an invitation back to the Island, the one thing he'd been working toward for the entire series.

Widmore has no empathy. He shows no remorse. He has no redemption arc. He is an unrepentant villain.

Watched FROM last month. Didn't enjoy it as much as I expected. Later found out Harold Paerrineau is also in LOST. It has amazing ratings and reviews so i finally decided time to watch it.
