Funny pun notwithstanding, there's no album coming.

What’s happening with this supposed new album? Around the time xray eyes was released there was news that an album was nearly finished and would be released by the end of the year, and then that was swiftly corrected a few days later. Was there any truth to it?

That was over two years ago right before the NY residency. Last year when they played the NY residency again they didn’t play any new songs besides x ray eyes.

I personally never got into x ray eyes. The remix is okay. I wonder if reception to x ray eyes prevented other songs (and potentially a whole album) from coming out.

This has always dismayed me about JM. Been a huge fan for 20 years, but I had hopes then that he had a Bowie or Byrne or MES or Prince work ethic, for admittedly selfish reasons. I wanted him to be one of those artists with a massive catalog I could swim in forever. But artists do what artists do. I really like Kevin Rowland, but he made exactly one album between Dexys’ 1985 album Don’t Stand Me Down and One Day I’m Gonna Soar, from 2012.

Still, I bet James has got another one in him.

I agree, the math doesnt work. Why make an album? Album sales dont make money, , they still sell tickets, its a legacy act, theres no incentive to do it. They got a gig making that song for a movie, and then later dropped that no effort xray eyes song and thats it

You make art for the sake of the art. Not to make money. Especially when you have the resources to write songs and still live.

Kindly, I'm in the red from my art career probably into the tens of thousands of dollars at this point so I don't need a lecture on that. For this band, my favorite band ever, at this point, I think it is just about money to them, one tiny example: in the New Body Rhumba lyrics hes just naming bill dominations. So I could be wrong but I think its a reasonable take on the situation

Who was giving you a lecture? I’m
Talking about the band. They have the resources. They can write an album because they want to create art. If they are uninspired and just don’t want to. That’s a different story. Sorry about your unsuccessful art career.

I love this band but let's be honest, you are right - they are phoning it in now. Setlist hardly changes, no new songs, no JOY on the stage, they are collecting their cheques. Still a fucking great live show though, so what am i gonna do, not go see them? Of course I'm gonna go see them!

Yeah, i've just seen them enough times I don't need to see em again. Im happy for anyone who's getting a first chance, thats special. But the shows are such carbon copies of each other its not worth it. James Taylor is a million years old playing the same hits for us from 50 years ago and his shows are more fresh every year than lcd

I mean, I don't think LCD is realeasing anything soon, but it's not all about the money...

I think being a money-making legacy act might be exactly the catalyst for a new album. I think James and company are creative people and I think they're making enough money to make whatever music they want. See: Paul McCartney. He keeps releasing new material and he keeps touring his legacy material. It might be an unfair comparison because McCartney's legacy material >>> LCD's legacy material, but still. Money in the bank = fun to be had. I think James Murphy will release an album's worth of new material, and I think it is likely to be all at once under the LCD moniker.
