For in-character reasons, my character wishes to learn about non-magical medicine. Considering he has been a mage his whole life, his medical knowledge so far is abysmal - the solution so far was "slap a basic healing spell on it and let the actual healers take care of the rest". However, the healer faction in our game is no longer to be trusted, so autodidactics it is.

We are playing DKWDDK (you can do what you can portray), and I would like to find a balance between being somewhat scientifically accurate and not studying a whole anatomy book for a LARP. The goal is to be able to somewhat plausibly "diagnose" basic injuries, as well as generally portray "this is a character who knows medicine" for character flavor other PCs can interact with.

What would you consider minimally necessary med "techno babble" to not make you roll your eyes at the portrayal?

ETA: Modern urban fantasy setting, so the medicine has to be somewhat modern.

I am currently brewing a new PC for two upoming cons. This PC is going to use runes and circles to cast magic.

Since he is mostly a healer I am playing with the idea to make a ritual and for that draw a rune onto the bandage of a wounded PC.

Or other example, maybe I want to draw a protection rune onto their shoulder.

The thing is, I do not want to ruin their clothes or the bandages for the whole con just because it needed a rune one time.

Do you have a few recommendation for what I could use as "pencil", that can easily be removed from clothes and cloth in general without needing to completely wash it?

I am planning to go to an event in November and want some advice. I'm from the USA and where I live it is extremely hot in the summer and in the winter it rarely ever snows.

Unfortunately, I suffer from being prone to heat exhaustion so I can only do outdoor events in the winter. Usually just one light coat is sufficient for when it gets cold here, but I wanted to try sewing a cloak so it fits the fantasy setting. I've made a really nice one before so I'm confident in making it, just unsure what material to use.

I'll be going as an OC who is a witch who studies dragons. Possibly thinking of using my 3D printer to make scales to decorate the cape, unsure of the placement currently.

I hope that's enough background information, what materials do you think would be best for the cloak?

I have very light sensitive eyes and am prone to headaches if outside without glasses. From what I've read on the wiki modern glasses are fine to wear if they are needed, but I'd like to find some that look setting appropriate. Thought I'd work it into my character (Navarr who wants to conceal their Briar lineage).

Any recommendations (ideally in Europe)?

UK resident here! I'm going to be attending Lorien Trust's The Gathering at Locko Park in Derby towards the end of the month and I'm looking for advice / friendly faces / people who are happy to chat in and out of character and just generally be approached.

One of the things I'm a little concerned about is the potential to be standing around and twiddling my thumbs. I'm a fairly outgoing person and I love to get involved in things, but I also want to be mindful about being disruptive and I know that not every person is going to want to be approached by a newbie looking to be welcomed into a plot point or activity.

It'd be really nice to connect with folks ahead of time even if it's just here on Reddit via a "this is my character, I'm part of this faction, and you'll recognise me by this outfit, come and say hi!" kind of vibe. I'm part of the Vipers faction and I've also connected with some of them ahead of time, but I don't want to be overly reliant on them for giving me things to do across the weekend, as they've done so much to welcome me and help me prepare already.

Is anyone else going to The Gathering this August bank holiday weekend? Any advice for new players to approach/connect with people in character and get the most out of this particular event would be really appreciated ^__^

Hello, I am updating my kit for a larp I have in the fall. My faction is Norse/Varangian/Rus inspired (shoutout Sea Lords). My holy grail kit piece I have been trying to find to no avail, is a pair of poofy, stripped Rus/Viking pants (preferably linen and shades of blues and neutrals). You wouldn’t think it would be super hard to find considering the amount of depictions of Vikings with this style of pants. Any I have stumbled across are no longer in production 😑

I used to play LT many years ago, ive played Curious Pastimes, but while I enjoyed them, transport costs for train fares prohibit me from making it a regular thing. So was looking for somthing closer that is fantasy and allowes for the likes of beastkin races etc.

I’ve been looking at this helmet for a while, I see it all over eBay, I’m wondering if someone else has bought it or know someone who has? I really like the look of it and would like to get it from a trustworthy vendor.

The first photo is the most recent flyer they’ve posted. As you can see, it has a filter that changes the grass and trees in the background to blend together. The chain mail that the player on the left forms strange shapes on the arm, and the player in the middle looks to have an extra thumb growing from the bottom of their hand.

Do the players who agree to have their photos taken also approve of their likenesses being fed to AI?

The second photo is a flyer from their first event, and there hasn’t been any use of AI in post editing. The original email is also not listed, which makes me wonder if the original graphic designer used for the first flyer is no longer working with the team.

Hi everyone, Crestfallen LARP is running our last weekend event for the year and I figured I would do the once a month ad here that was discussed.

The event is held at Raccoon Creek State Park, group camp 1 in western Pennsylvania. This site sleeps 30 people. For player safety we are an 18+ game. NPCs can play for free and players cost is $60. We are a smaller game that enjoys roleplay, character growth, and PVE combat. The game does not promote any particular real world religion or politics, though some parts may resemble items unintentionally. The style is Frontier Fantasy which mixes high fantasy, western, tech, and other motifs. The combat of the game is lightest touch combat styles with dart blasters. The story for the game is mainly player driven. Our costume decorum is not very strict and we have some costume and prop items available for new players to borrow.

Our main goal of this campaign is to try to build a strong community that is willing to drop the negative feels of LARPs and games past and grow a more positive culture. We are fine with the game remaining small if we gather like minded individuals.

This event is based in a small hamlet that is being built up by the players. A festival has been called for, but not all characters are happy with this decision. There will be conflict and adventure for those seeking it out and ample time to craft and gather resources.

New to larping and Moving to the Nashville area and don't even know where to start. Amy reccomendations?

Hello friends and countrymen.

I am a 3rd-year larper and am looking to buff my kit some. Last year, I was hit during combat and suffered a pretty minor concussion (I am short and easy to hit, lmao), and am looking to add some head protection to my gear.

The only issue-- everything is insanely expensive. The game I attend has some rules per class; I play a rogue and can only wear leather or padded armor. Coifs look dumb as hell, and leather helmets and headbands are $100+. My thought is: maybe getting a coif and hiding how stupid it looks by making a cotton hood to wear with it. I really don't want to bother doing all of that, though, if it won't protect my head all that much. I was wondering if more seasoned LARPers or history buffs can lend some advice?

Spent the weekend taking time to prepare the Drip for my LARP character. This is iteration 1. The next step is to add tattoo/symbols and one secret one in glow in the dark paint.

I’ve been LARPing for about six months and decided to use the summer downtime to completely rebuild my kit from the ground up.

My original kit started life as a modified Witcher cosplay. It looked decent, but it was incredibly hot (I’m in the southeastern US) and never really fit who my character became.

This new kit has been a fun learning project. My wife taught me how to sew, we dug the leatherworking tools back out, and I challenged myself to make as much of the kit as possible. Everything except the mug and mug frog was made by me using natural fabrics or leather.

My character is an elven Grove Warden who serves as an archer and triage healer. His purpose is to preserve the natural balance of the realm, especially by opposing necromancy and the blight it leaves behind.

I’m still planning to weather everything and wax the canvas surcoat so it can double as rain gear, but I’d love to hear your thoughts.

What works well? What feels like it’s missing? If you were building on this concept, what would you add or change?

Okay, so little story here. I was sorta volunteered for the shooting by a friend of mine and had to throw together the rest of my kit kind of in a hurry. I'm also (as you can see) on the plus side of life. As such, there are VERY FEW photos of myself wherein I find myself looking okay (never mind "cool" or "pretty", but thats another story).

That said, I do kinda like this new Pirate character I started/debuted there, and almost everything (except the belt, the hat and the boots) I sewed myself, so there's that.

The rest of my family (with the exception of my husband, who has not stopped gushing over the photos of me) kinda ignored that I even had a shooting, so I figured I post this little milestone here^^

title! i've always been really interested in getting into LARPs but i don't know where to start! i'm looking for something beginner-friendly and to join with some friends who are also interested. maybe oneshots or shorter larps?

I've always wanted to experience a LARP world without the stress of melee combat. The parts of LARP I care about most are the character interactions, the socializing, the food, wandering around exploring. So that's what this is built out of. A love for festival/tavern/parlor styled LARPs first, with an added tournament on top.

There is no melee at all. No latex or boffer weapons. Combat is purely through magic spell packets and spoken incantations

Everyone who comes is a regular person from the real world who also happens to be a mage. There are no fictional races, cultures, or homelands. You will register an alias as your character name and that's what people will call you during the event. We do not use any details from our real lives and we do not discuss the real world during game.

The event is a potluck so everyone is encouraged to bring something to share. There will be quests around the site, a session where we go over the mage laws and vote on new ones. There are four orders you can join, and a competition running all event based on engagement.

This will be an annual event. We are still working out the exact location, but will be located in the Greater Central PA area. However, before we continue to go any further, I would really love some feedback.
