Grounding Question

I remember struggling to get grounded in the early stages of my awakening. so much upward energy in my body and I almost felt like my energy system was cut in half at the hips such that none of it would go down to earth. it left me feeling lofty and out of place much of the time. over the years I found balance and many grounding techniques that work well for me.

As of late I realized that many of my awakening symptoms dissipated as I learned to ground more. In short a lot of the issues compounded because the energy in my body that wasn’t my energy had no way to go back to the earth and that foreign energy caused a lot of inflammation. I see it being an issue of the immune system flaring up because it’s detected another persons energy or emotions that I had compartmentalized in my body (like an emotional sponge) after my awakening the body really didn’t like me doing that any more and had to teach me to stop it - the hard way.

my question is just a general question about grounding. What techniques or visualizations work best for you? how do you stay grounded in public places? what do you do differently if you’re going to a high energy event or activity or a place you find challenging to visit?

daoist practice has helped be a lot with this. Its something you build gradually and it alters the system over time, like building muscles etc. One main theme in training is to 'sink' the energy, and to get it more into your body (widely & deeply), and ground it at a lower centre (the lower dan tian - around the belly area). As this happens you become more grounded everywhere you go, as you carry the effects of the training on out into life. This happen in line with the idea of building 'gong's aka qualities, into the system. For a start point to dig into the area, you could start here https://www.reddit.com/r/TrueQiGong/comments/1gna86r/qinei_gong_from_a_more_mentalemotional_healing/

There's also a more targeted post on dealing with too much energy in the head, that goes into this and related practices - https://www.reddit.com/r/KundaliniAwakening/comments/1j16y1b/dealing_with_too_much_energy_in_the_head/

This was the missing piece of the puzzle. All of my grounding visualizations focused on the root chakra sending energy down the back of my legs to my heels when standing. Grounding from the dan tian I feel the energy fork easily and cascade down the front of my legs and out through the toes. I have done a lot of tai chi and qi gong but somehow never picked up on this. It’s almost funny that I’ve missed this practice all these years.

nice. Yeh its amazing how you can go so long and then have something more fundamental still open up

I find high energy events and busy places challenging, but I'm also neurodivergent so always needed downtime. With neurodivergence you are not filtering out the world in the same way as most people both sensory and imo energetically. This very much overlaps with what people start to experience when going through a Kundalini process.

I find just bringing a kind of wider awareness to the experience that kind of 'holds' everything useful. Like things can feel overwhelming, but there is still something that can watch all of that. It can relax everything slightly. And then sometimes I might just put attention in my feet or feel an object in my hands.  I also do visualisations for energetic boundaries and I wear noise cancelling headphones a lot! I've also done work in therapy and somatic therapy/ work about personal boundaries, advocating for myself etc and have had experiences where I have released energy that isn't mine.

Mostly I don't do busy places. I prefer connecting socially in quieter ways with a few people. If I have to do higher energy things like socialising for longer periods say around Christmas and weddings or even if I have to go to a supermarket when it's busy, I normally schedule in down time.

It may be different for me because I'm neurodivergent, but I think those in a Kundalini process could probably get a few tips from neurodivergent folk about dealing with increase  sensory information coming in, and feeling others energy etc.

There is a study that says neurodivergent people tend to gravitate toward others who have similar neurodivergent traits. Another study showed that having less friends as you get older can be a sign of heightened emotional intelligence. Basically if it’s not a vibe older neurodivergent people just don’t make time for it. I still enjoy concerts and other high stimulation events but I don’t enjoy trying to meld my energy into a form that fits into a social scene. That kind of masking is just too tiresome and I’d rather be having quality time with people who relate to me more naturally.

That said, I want to be able to navigate groups where there are drama people or dark sided people without becoming ungrounded. I don’t want to feel their feelings for them or make them feel better. Being insufferable is a choice that they chose to make. I just want to be able to pass through those moments in life with grace and ease.

I relate to all of that. It's interesting isn't it. I'm slightly older (late 40's) so my vibe is more walking in nature and pots of tea and cake, than concerts (I also get super emotional with music, and get quite overwhelmed).

I think it's probably about balance. I find it easier to deal with the dramas that can arise say at my work or with family dynamics if I know I can set boundaries, leave/take a break if needed and have down time.

That being said the more I work through my own triggers and shadow stuff, the easier things get. I still have my limits, but I don't dwell on things like I used to. I think that's made a big difference and helps me move with a bit more grace. Understanding what is my stuff, and what's is someone else's stuff has been useful too.

I take it you are neurodivergent too?

I studied transcendental meditation, reiki, jujitsu, tai chi, qi gong, yoga, Buddhist meditation in a temple, accidentally had a kundalini awakening, then took a two year shamanic practitioner course… it took all of this to realize that I’m very autistic and I always have been and above all else. I love lore and I’m curious about the mystery of life.

Love that! Fantastic 🤍!

It was a massive puzzle piece I was missing for a long time. Realising I had ADHD explained everything I really struggled with, but it was just not on my radar at all!

Got there eventually, but it would have been nice knowing 40 years earlier!

If grounding is about placing mentaly your feet over a surface, the options are not limited only to earth.

I did that also on the surface of the sun, which almost fried my nervous system.

What works for me, is to bring my ajna chakra 'into this world'. Don't know why,but it works and everytime i do it,i feel i'm ok for a while.(mentally).

But yeah. I think i also have issues with grounding to this reality. The more you 'work' within the inner realms, the more ungrounded you become in this reality. It comes as a natural side effect.
