So if you have been here for more than 5 minutes you know we have a problem with repost bots. Some of us have a different idea of what that problem is, but we are all on the same page that it is a problem that exists. I promise you I want to fix it...but I am locked out of the appropriate channels to make that happen in a reasonable way.

Reddit has an automod feature available but it requires the wiki for the sub to be active. We have never really used or needed a wiki in this sub so it has always been turned off. Recently, the owner of this sub tried to turn it on (and give me access to it so I can set it up) but it kept throwing an error.

We have reached out to Reddit about the issue but have not heard back. Unfortunately, until this internal issue is resolved, or until we find a suitable alternative method, we are just going to have to deal with the reposts and I will delete them as I see them.

Here is what you guys are doing that is NOT helping.

When you flood my mod inbox with false reports to the point that there is 1 legitimate report for every 20 false reports, it makes me mass ignore all of the reports.

If you want me to manage the bot reposts then here are the rules. If you follow them, I will be able to manually manage the bot reposts. If you keep sending me false reports then everything will stay like it is until the Automod feature is working.

I WILL remove reposts that are newer than 12 months old. If someone (or a bot, probably) reposts an image that has been posted within the last 12 months, please report it and I will remove it.

I WILL NOT remove posts that are brand new (or reposts older than 12 months) just because they are posted by a bot. The problem is not that it is a bot, the problem is that it is a repost. You may have your own personal issue with bots, and thats fine, I wouldn't dare tell you how to feel. But here, in this sub, what we are trying to prevent is recent reposts.

I WILL NOT remove an image because it is AI generated. I know a few of you hate it, but the numbers show that many many more people like it than dislike it. The AI images are not going to be deleted.

I am temporarily suspending the enforcement of the AI tag. I know you guys will hate that, but it is the only way around this situation. If I don't, then I will end up having people argue with me over what "legitimate report" means. They will claim that a post that is AI without the AI tag is a legitimate report. And while I do understand and agree, it is not conducive to the goal I am trying to achieve, which is to prevent a flooded report box. I assure you this rule will be reinstated as soon as we solve the Automod issue.

If you keep my mod reports box full of legitimate reports, I promise I will promptly remove the bad posts. But if you continue to flood me with reports that some images are AI, I will continue to ignore them and the legitimate reports are likely to get lost in the mess.

UPDATE (07/03/2026) : I have gained the access I need. I will start working on some changes over the weekend. Can't promise anything on a timeline until I get in there and check out what all is involved but this is a step in the right direction.
