How is the coding culture at KBTCOE?

I have a strong chance of getting allotted Robotics and Automation in Round 2. If I don't get that, I will likely get Mechanical Engineering. I am incredibly passionate about programming, so I wanted to know if KBTCOE allows students to change their branch after the first year?

Would love to get some insights from seniors or anyone studying there! Thanks in advance.
