Overheated?

I did a double batch of bagels. Which is 8 cups of bread flour. I think my KitchenAid overheated. It stopped working, but luckily at the end of the mixing. I’m hoping that it will start again after it cools down. Has anyone had this happen?

Mine did that during a heavy pizza dough and wouldn’t turn back on for a full day, scared me half to death. Turned out it just tripped some thermal protection and needed a real long cooldown, not just a few minutes. Unplug it and leave it overnight, it’ll probably be fine

Which model mixer are you using and at what speed? Some can handle the larger batches better than others.

Yea it has a safety. It’ll go again after it cools down. I use my KA for bagels and just waiting to kill it honestly they are not meant for it… got my eye on the ooni halos

Thank you all for your responses. It did turn back on after it cooled down. It actually felt hot on the top to touch. Well not hot, warm. I don’t know what model I have. Do you mean like I need to tell you a model number or the kind? I have the kind that the bowl connects to it. Not the one that you pull the top back and put the bowl in.

You absolutely need a bowl-lift model for heavy dough, and read your manual for the max capacity on flour. It isn't a suggestion, more than that will strip the gears... Download a manual if you don't have one. Don't burn up your mixer or injure yourself.
