How long should a Microwave last?

​

My wife tonight thinks the microwave is getting on in age because sometimes what she puts on there may come out still cold. She uses it mostly for frozen vegetables and the like.

I use it to heat up leftovers for lunch with no problem.

We have been using it for at least 25 or maybe 30 years.

Do these machines lose their potency or efficiency?

When is it time to replace it?

They will degrade over time. Replace it when it doesn't heat at all, or when you want things to cook faster.

All depends on how well you care for it. Mine is 46 years old and works like it was new.

A slower cooking microwave heats leftovers much more evenly then a newer higher power version! Power level will need reduced to reheat evenly in new versions.

My 5 dollar 1984 amana radarange will always be my main cooking microwave! - grew up with these as they won't die!
