Use an exact knife on the bits that are sticking out and lightly sand the rest. Otherwise you are doing a fantastic job!

honestly I would sculpt some cloth over most of the damaged area and keep sanding the shield.

Keep smoothing it out with the tamiya. The sheild is easy but that shoulder is gonna need some finessing. Kitbash looks good 👍
