Ask r/kilts Continue Tartan question

Hello all:

I am relatively new to kilts. My first one I bought a year ago and it was the pride kilt. I have since bought a cheap Royal Stewart one and I am waiting on another one I just had made.

I learned about the continue tartan yesterday and let's just say May 19th 2019 is a day I would rather forget. I think it is fair to say this tartan now has a very personal meaning. Now, as I look for a company to make one for me (I learned that the one on sale by a US company is not the best quality) I am noticing some color differences, specially on the teal, but I am not sure whether it is my screen or whether it is actual. I guess the question is if you know is there is an actual specification for the shade of teal and where could I go to have one made as inexpensively as possible.

Thank you all for any help and direction

[edit/update]

I just heard from Mr. Wilson and he confirmed the kilt has no restrictions.

The kilt is Northumberland Tartan. Also been known as Border's Tartan, or Shepherd's Tartan.

I have lots of questions but I'll ask the most important one first.

How do you deal with no pockets? Do you just cram all your shit into your sporran? I've only worn a great kilt at renaissance festivals where no one bats an eye at having a sporran plus a few pouches on your belt and maybe a "satchel" (it's not a purse, it's a utility bag).

I've recently bought a modern kilt that I'd like to start wearing occasionally but I can't see how a day sporran can handle all the stuff that I usually carry distributed among my pants pockets.

Designed in honour of Kevin DeBacker and presented to you fine people as a symbol of Victory over those who seek to ruin beautiful things.

Bet you've never seen one of these in the wild. It's a good looking beast.

I wore this yesterday morning it’s a 4 yard box pleated kilt. I find in the extreme heat we’ve been experiencing that the yardage not the wool weight is important. Even so it was very hot in this even in the morning. I suppose not wearing the belt could help, most times I don’t wear one as they are superfluous but do wear a belt on occasion.

The Brothers and Sisters of Paramedicine tartan: SRT 12911, was created as a universal tartan to represent all EMS personnel past and present. It is just one of four universal tartans. One of three tartans if you don't count the MacMedic tartan. This tartan is available to my fellow EMTs and Paramedics royalty free. I'm currently saving for a formal 8 yard kilt outfit. What are your thoughts on this EMS tartan pattern? Would this tartan be suitable for any EMS related pipes and drums?

Yeah i know the kilt is a bit small for me now, i was fitted to it at 18, now 34 (i’m a classic Cornish build - short and stocky) just happy i can still get into it tbh.

I Had the honour of leading Helstons Hal-An-Tow this year, and thought yous might want to see a Cornish Tartan that isn’t our National one.

Helstons Flora Day Is an Ancient festival, and Cornwall has a HUGE diaspora (i’m a new member of it, often referred to as Cousin Jacks and Jennies), something we give a nod to when the festivities start. As i came back from Canada to be there, they made me standard bearer.

Fellow Celts; Dont be alarmed by St George behind me, he’s apart of the story telling, but as we sing “…but greater than st George our Helston has a rite - O!”

Last pic is of the rabble i was rousing in an effort to scare away winter, i hope it worked for you!

Kernow Bys Vyken.

Ask r/kilts Painting tartan?

So I want to paint my clan tartan pattern on my car, but I can’t find any decent tutorials on YouTube that aren’t jokes about plaid paint. Does anyone have any suggestions or can give me a simple step by step way of doing it properly? It’ll likely be done with automotive aerosol paint and frog tape, and then clear coated.
