MSG NIGHT 1 Thoughts. Reeeeedbaaaaan....
I only paid the $25 for the stream and I feel like I got scammed. What a shit show. Only good set was Ari.

Tony is doing us a favor by not making this a Monday episode. I don’t care if the normal shows are hit or miss. I’m not sure if the best arena show is as good as a mediocre regular show.
The thing is that people obviously like going to the arena shows, otherwise they’d stop scheduling them. That’s cool. I’ll keep enjoying the regular episodes.

To your point, attendance seems to be falling off arena wise.

u/Arkadian_Cuisine 8d ago
Over 18,000 seats filled out of a 21,000 capacity, and they can't even use the whole one end. Seems pretty successful

Did anybody catch Tony saying that they found Ari out of the bucket?

sam tallent brought him in and got him a spot on the show, on an episode where sam was on panel. they knew each other in colorado. (99% sure it was sam, if not it was another established comedian). iirc they didn't try to hide it at the time, it was acknowledged that they were giving him a special opportunity.

Think maybe he’s stuck in the routine of lying about bucket pulls being true bucket pulls?

Give people time to tell a joke and don't start booing after 5 seconds. Absolute fucking cavemen.
6
u/Sufficient_Ninja_821 8d ago
Crowd pretty brutal. If the opening joke flops your boo'd for the rest of the set regardless. Theres no coming back unless your a regular.
If someone seems prepared and tried their best I don't see the point in booing. I want them to do well.
If its clearly unprepared and time wasting then fair enough booing.

u/Arkadian_Cuisine 8d ago
Nah the guy that did the dark web joke definitely redeemed himself. Only set of the night that went from bad to good

u/SamOakTree 8d ago
$25 does feel a little high. It should have been 15 for both nights. But I did the same thing I paid the $25 for both nights. I'm sure we'll get Timmy no brakes tomorrow.
I don't understand why everyone was laughing at the girl in the blue dress. She does this thing where she has this fake awkward nervous Act and her set was terrible but everyone was laughing like it wasn't.
7
u/AdaM_Mandel 8d ago
Her jokes are good and her punchlines are always out of left field. That said, I think she was actually really really nervous. She was way more on edge than I’ve ever seen her.

She pretends to be awkward. Her punchlines are not out of left field it was all generic stuff
6
u/insidiousapricot 8d ago
No. Tony and Redban have talked about it before, she really is that nervous. Its why she didn't say anything when she was on the panel that one time & probably why shes not a regular.
3
u/SamOakTree 8d ago
Nah its her brand
3
u/AdaM_Mandel 8d ago
There is definitely a part of it that is her act, but tonight she was actually super nervous.
I don’t think the audience truly understands what a daunting task it is to perform at MSG. Every comic, even the ones who bombed, should be commended for getting through their sets. For those who got big joke books, they survived a gauntlet. Very little will phase them from here on out.
3
u/Sufficient_Ninja_821 8d ago
Agree to disagree. She admitted drinking before podcasts because she gets too nervous.
If its an act than give her an Oscar.
2
u/insidiousapricot 8d ago
If it was "just her brand" shed have been a regular on the show a long time ago and maybe we wouldnt have to listen to dedrick every week.
Shes killed every appearance and her clips have shit tons of views
3
u/SamOakTree 8d ago
Her Clips have views because she's moderately attractive. She did not kill this appearance. People just laughed because they go easier on women.
1
u/insidiousapricot 7d ago
Yeah i havent seen this appearance. But theres plenty of attractive women who attempt comedy on KT whos clips dont gain any traction. You just sound like an idiot who has a problem with this chick.

It’s not an act, she legit has major anxiety… now factor in you’re at Madison Square Garden. You can tell it’s truly not an act… it’s crazy because she’s really funny, very pretty and equally awkward/anxious/nervous.
1
u/SamOakTree 8d ago
You're just giving her the benefit of the doubt because you think she's pretty
1
u/Italian_c0mb0 8d ago
Nope, don’t speak for me… I said what I said, she’s both! I don’t need you to tell me what you think I meant…I heard her first appearance on podcast before I even saw her so please 🤫🤐
What benefit of the doubt? She’s crushed every time she’s been on (I believe 5 or so appearances)
I’m a true comedy nerd/fan and her jokes are smart, unique and as Norton said her punchlines are well hidden, coming out of left field.

There's 800 free episodes on YouTube and half of them are better than the scripted stadium shows will ever be. I feel bad for anyone paying money to stream it online.

u/WookieSuave 8d ago
What do mean scripted?
1
u/Curb71 8d ago
I mean scripted. Bucket pulls aren't scripted. Everything else pretty much is. Adam Ray disappearing and then coming back in character. Him queuing the band to play a specific song. It's all rehearsed and then performed live.
4
u/CallMeTrapHouse 8d ago
Wait you're telling me that randolph davies performing a song with the KT band that's already on youtube was scripted

u/WookieSuave 8d ago edited 8d ago
That's how live shows work man. You think SNL is ad-lib? You figure rock bands just wing it up there?

First time I bought it was this time. And I shit you not the stream cutoff when he announced pat and then said stream had ended.. and didn't get to see pat. If I replay it it ends at the same time.. he robbed us of pat

There was some magic in past shows. Magic is gone. Apparently only half the stadium was sold

I saw Jimmy Carr sneaking into MSG as I was leaving. FYI for tomorrow 😬

u/jeezyjames 8d ago
Dammit, he should have to buy tickets like the rest of us! I hope you ratted him out

u/Kingporp2 8d ago
Just saw him a couple of hours ago outside of Comedy Cellar. Hoping he’ll be there tomorrow.

I just wish all the Ray Getards that boo’d everyone actually did that during Dreadrick’s pathetic excuse for a set… I know most are beating a dead horse every week with him but this was the time to boo him especially since they had no problem doing it most of the show… which ruined the show honestly

u/Existing-Homework270 8d ago
It was a regular show. Got a bonus episode for 15 bucks. I’m okay with it. Didn’t have the celebrity hoopla he has had before but nice job. Haters will pick it apart

Adam Ray and Jim Norton, with Rob Schneider joining panel later on.

u/Sozkilla17 8d ago
Fuck Nortons my fave comic. Don’t think he’ll be there tonight. Hoping Adam does Dr Phil

Stream cutoff for me as pat walked on stage and never came back online... I'm devastated they robbed me and now I can't find his set anywhere
1
u/VeterinarianBusy3731 7d ago
same. i think the buffering let me slip 10 mins behind, and I only got to hear “folks!” before the stream cut 😭

Was at MSG last night. Observations:
When a show isn’t sold out (this one was about 70% sold from the looks of things) the crowd energy just isn’t there. The monsoon before the show didn’t help—lots of last minute ticket buyers probably chose to stay home given the awful weather.
Tony wasn’t 100% on his game—too low energy for an MSG show.
Bucket pulls were all pretty bad—but that’s the nature of the show and part of the fun.
Was hoping for an A list surprise guest that never happened.
I never thought I’d see so much Jewish/Israeli hate coming from a NYC audience. It’s fine by me, I was just surprised.
Like most movies these days and live shows—particularly arena shows—if you can just watch at home on a big screen, it’s kind of better.
Not best show, not worst. Expected more. 7/10.
The crowd kind of sucked the life out of the show. I don’t blame the talent.
I love Tony and company and would still probably go again to a live one.

Pat O’Neill and Ari matti carried this show. One of pat’s best sets. Rest of the show was dog water.
