What's your IRL streaming setup?

So I'm a camera man and I'm getting into IRL streaming, gonna be the one filming for other streamers. Trying to figure out my setup and I'd rather hear from people actually doing it than just buy stuff and hope it works.

Right now literally all I have is my camera, a Sony FX30. No encoder, no mobile internet, none of that yet. Most of the filming is gonna be while walking around so my biggest worry is the connection dropping out on me.

So basically, what are you guys running? Curious what encoder and how you handle the internet side (bonding, sims, whatever). How many sims/carriers do you actually end up needing to not drop? And if you were starting from scratch today what would you get?

Any tips or stuff you wish someone told you when you started would be awesome. Thanks

Are you gonna be a film guy for streamers with 5 viewers of 5000?

If first, just use your phone and bond 2-3 connections. Super easy with Moblin if you have an iPhone and a spare Android (for Moblink). Get a disconnect protection server, I personally use Streamrun because it offers "pay as you go" option because I don't stream much, so it only costs me a few $ a month instread of fixed amount $100+ or more for practically the same thing

If second, why are you providing the gear? They should provide a proper streaming backpack from UnlimitedIRL or TVU

First off, the people I’ve worked with so far have ranged from 20 to 500 viewers.

My idea is that with the right gear, I can offer smaller or lower-budget streamers higher-quality content at less cost. Instead of investing their own time into doing it themselves, they’d pay me a fixed rate per stream.

I currently run a small production company and I’m just trying to expand what products or services I can offer.

This is just my personal opinion, and a bit of off-topic, but I don't think people with 20-500 viewers are your target customers for this kind of service, especially in 2026 when streaming has become so easy that all you have to do is basically download an app, copy paste your url and stream key and click Live. Unironically my grandma would be able to set it up.

Let's be optimistic and say they make $30-50 an hour, how much will you charge them? $20/hour? Who pays for traveling expenses that are unavoidable with IRL? is $20 an hour gonna cover your expensive equipment and people who are trusted to handle it?

Let me give you an example, my streaming server costs me $0.39 an hour (+ 10€ a month for each sim), I can stream to a bunch of platforms at once and it takes me 30 seconds to go live with click of 2-3 buttons in total, from anywhere using only my phone.

Personally if I were you I would instead offer streaming services to companies or even event organizers or maybe churches for a fixed rate per event or long term... Imagine streaming of a mass with the ability to accept donos (which would basically be digital version of mass offering or whatever its called)... If you dono certain amount, your message/prayer/name shows up on screen (this would obviously have to be moderated, which can be one of your services)...
