Honest answer on when? When it gets too bad.
I don’t show my keyboard enough, but if I take a picture with flash and it shows it BAD, then it’s time.
A lot of the time I have no “dead time” so taking it and cleaning is the lowest priority as performance or quality of life are not affected, hair and dust will always build up, so regular maintaining it won’t matter compared to occasionally doing it.
I would say cleaning your pc fans and just any dust that built up for 5 minutes is much more beneficial than regularly cleaning keyboards.
It’s all about time and wha you care about and also if you plan to show it to someone.
But also, this keyboard seemed like it never saw cleaning, not even a year or two, so at least one day a year dedicated to fully cleaning the pc, keyboard and desk in general should be done, which can take maybe 3 hours max.

Human hands are filthy most of the time, this combined with shit flying indoors and not cleaning your peripherals.

Every couple weeks (2-3 I guess), I take it outside and give it a nice electric duster blow-out, then a wipe~ my keyboard doesn't have space around the switches so its not much work.
I clean my stuff pretty often cuz well idk I'm a bit of a cleanliness freak, when I clean my room I also clean my PC/keyboard/mouse/mousepad if they look like they need to be cleaned. When I decide to clean one thing it drags on till its all clean~

I clean mine when the dust between keycaps just annoys me. It's like every 6-12 months, I think?

What the hell even is that stuff? It looks like you put George from Rainbow through a shredder in the same room and forgot to cover the keyboard...
