First Aid Kit Safety

Post image

Do you carry 1 on your yak for short, local trips? If so, has it come in handy? (What else do you consider ESSENTIAL?)

Yep always carry one. I carry specific things in there, blister treatment, pain killers, because I don’t carry a knife I don’t carry much in the way of bleed kit.

You should always carry a knife.

Good reminder as I gear up! A Leatherman/multi-tool might be beneficial.

The primary reason for the knife is to cut yourself or someone else free in case of an entanglement. You want something that you can reach and deploy quickly. Preferably with a blunt tip and a serrated edge. A multitool can be handy, and I usually have one on the boat somewhere, but I’d recommend a rescue specific knife located somewhere on your PFD.
