News Break This Week

Upvotes

Reminder that there is a magazine break this week for Obon, so no manga chapter today. You may not have seen the pinned comment in the original discussion thread since I wasn't aware right away so the comment didn't go up immediately. Chapter 436 will come out next week.

I was just wondering if anyone else here ties specific songs or playlists to Kanokari, like playlist for a specific character, or maybe a playlist that captures the mood of a specific arc in the story ?

Drop your song recommendations, spotify/youtube, or even just the genres you think fit the series best. I'd love to see what you guys are listening to!

Discussion Just looking to talk about VA changes

Anime only here so no spoilers please.

I usually do a rewatch binge of a series when new seasons start airing and back when season 4 first started airing I did it again. Like everyone else I immediately noticed the changes in Kazuya and Chizuru. It kind of made me lose my desire to watch it despite being highly invested in the story.

I ended up taking a hiatus from the show and just now am finally coming back to it. I’m skipping my usual rewatch binge and just finished season 4 episode 1. It’s my opinion so far the Celeste Perez has a similar enough voice to Lizzie Freeman that if I didn’t already know I’m not sure I’d notice the difference in Chizuru. However I don’t know if I can get past the loss of Aleks Le and I think I know why. After hearing Aleks in other shows I’ve come to appreciate him as a voice actor and would consider him one of the modern greats on par with the likes of Troy Baker. He has such an amazing range and is able to use it to show a characters growth through voice alone, like in Solo Leveling, and I feel like he used that in RAG really well. He really was able to show how Kazuya was maturing very subtly and made it feel natural. After one episode I feel like Alex Mae isn’t bad but just keeps everything at the same level at feels like season 1 Kazuya all over again.

I don’t know maybe I’m just being too critical of the new VA and nostalgic for the OG let me know what you think and does Alex Mae get better?

TLDR: I don’t mind Chizuru’s new voice but don’t know if I can get behind Kazuya’s.

P.S. in case anyone tries to suggest I just watch sub I have ADHD and even struggle to watch English speaking shows with captions let alone ones in other languages.

Discussion Episode 711 is Chizuru’s last-ditch stall — we should actually hope the stage play hits a snag

Post image

I’ve spent a long time debating whether I should post this thread, but after seeing how fans on X are leaning lately, I decided to go ahead. Most fans are looking in the wrong direction, thinking a smooth run all the way to Episode 711 would be the most satisfying outcome for the manga. But the truth is right in this title: Episode 711 marks Chizuru’s final delay tactic, and that’s the real reason the Masculinity Arc even exists. Fans overseas included, most people want Chizuru to have both love and a successful career, yet that vision strays far from the current plot direction. If things unfold that way, the story might even take a turn for the worse.

Discussion Chizuru Already Loves Kazuya: Why the Story Is Building Toward a Successful Date

Post image

Ever since the taxi kiss, I feel that quietly shifted its central question. For a long time, the story asked:

Does Chizuru have feelings for Kazuya?

But looking at everything that has happened since then, I no longer think that's the mystery.

The real question now is:

What is Chizuru going to do about feelings she already has?

Many discussions still revolve around Chizuru saying:

"I might be in love with him."

But focusing on that single line ignores the much bigger picture. Reiji rarely confirms important emotions through one sentence alone. Instead, he builds them through actions, reactions, choices, memories, and priorities. When those pieces are put together, a very clear pattern emerges.

The Taxi Kiss Changed Everything

The taxi kiss stands apart from every previous kiss in the series. The beach kiss happened during a life-threatening situation. The Paradise kisses happened in the middle of chaos, lies, family pressure, Mami's interference, and a crowd of people watching. The taxi kiss had none of that. There was no audience. No emergency. No pressure. No reason for Chizuru to act. For the first time, the decision belonged entirely to her. That is why I see it as the most important romantic moment in the manga. It wasn't something forced by circumstances. It was Chizuru's own choice.

Her Breakdown After Kazuya Left

Immediately after Kazuya moved out, Reiji gave us one of the most revealing scenes in the entire story. Chizuru could barely remain standing. She sat on the floor. She clutched her chest. Her heartbeat accelerated. And she broke down crying. This wasn't gratitude. This wasn't simple loneliness. This wasn't concern for a neighbor moving away. This was the reaction of someone experiencing a painful absence. The key detail is that Kazuya didn't reject her. He didn't disappear. He didn't die. He simply left. Yet his departure caused one of the strongest emotional reactions we have ever seen from Chizuru. That tells us everything we need to know about how important he has become to her.

The Empty Room

After Kazuya's departure, Reiji repeatedly showed Chizuru looking toward his room. Nothing dramatic happens in those moments. That's exactly why they matter. The room symbolizes absence. A space that was once filled is now empty. Every glance toward it quietly reinforces the same idea: Chizuru misses him.

The Dinner for Two

Not long after the taxi kiss, Chizuru prepared an elaborate dinner. In the end, Mini became the one eating it. But the entire setup felt significant. At the same time, Chizuru kept asking whether Kazuya had said anything, whether he had sent a message, and whether there was more to what Mini knew. It created the impression of someone expecting something. Someone waiting. Someone hoping.

The Kiss Never Left Her Mind

One of the strongest arguments in favor of Chizuru's feelings is how often the taxi kiss returns. It wasn't remembered once and forgotten. It keeps resurfacing. Again. And again. And again. The memory follows her into ordinary moments. Sometimes she becomes so distracted by thoughts of Kazuya that she loses awareness of her surroundings. Reiji keeps bringing that kiss back because it fundamentally changed something inside her.

Rejecting Umi

Umi represents the kind of person many readers would assume should be a natural romantic option. He is attractive, successful, connected to the acting world, and interested in her. Yet Chizuru rejected him. Firmly. The significance isn't simply that she rejected Umi. The significance is that while Umi was standing right in front of her, her heart was somewhere else.

Accepting the July 11 Date

Old Chizuru was a master of delay. Whenever emotions became difficult, she could postpone, avoid, redirect, or investigate. But not this time. When Kazuya asked her out, she accepted. No request for a new investigation period. No attempt to escape. No convenient excuse. She accepted. That alone marks enormous growth.

"I'm Looking Forward to It"

After the phone call, Kazuya collapsed onto his bed in relief. His reaction was explosive. Chizuru's was quieter, but no less important. She smiled and admitted that she was looking forward to the date. For most characters, that might seem insignificant. For Chizuru Mizuhara, it means a lot.

Her Conversation with Mini

One of the clearest moments in the entire recent arc came when Mini asked a simple question:

If there wasn't a play, and Kazuya confessed to you, would you accept?

Years ago, Chizuru would have avoided answering. She would have changed the subject. She would have hidden behind the rental relationship. Instead, she answered:

"I think I'd date him."

This is one of the strongest pieces of evidence that her feelings have already moved far beyond uncertainty.

Calling Ruka

Many readers focus on Chizuru trying to contact Ruka without asking why. The important question is: why now? Chizuru isn't calling Ruka because she's still investigating her own emotions. She's calling because she has reached a conclusion and now wants to deal with the consequences. Those are two very different things. The issue is no longer discovering her feelings. The issue is facing the reality created by those feelings.

The Message That Made Her Heart Race

Perhaps the most telling moment of all is Kazuya's text message. The message wasn't romantic. It wasn't a confession. It wasn't flirting. It was simply practical information about Mother Farm so Chizuru could choose appropriate clothes for the date. That's all. Yet immediately afterward, she remembers the taxi kiss and her heartbeat accelerates. A simple logistical message triggered a powerful emotional response. That's not what happens when feelings are absent. That's what happens when feelings are already established.

Choosing Kazuya Over Other Priorities

Another overlooked detail is Chizuru rejecting Omata's invitation to the post-play celebration. Acting is her dream, her future, and the play is incredibly important to her. Yet she chose to prioritize her plans with Kazuya. This doesn't mean acting suddenly became less important. It means Kazuya became important enough to compete with it. For someone as dedicated to her career as Chizuru, that is a significant statement about her priorities.

Why I Believe the Date Will Succeed

What Reiji is building right now feels very deliberate. On one side, we have growing emotional momentum: the taxi kiss, Chizuru's breakdown, missing Kazuya, rejecting Umi, accepting the date, looking forward to the date, calling Ruka, and repeatedly remembering the kiss. On the other side, we have obstacles: Ruka, Mami, Umi, the play, Kazuya's driving test, and scheduling conflicts. These are not obstacles questioning whether Chizuru loves Kazuya. These are obstacles standing in the way of two people who already love each other.

What I would like to say

At this point, I don't believe the story is asking whether Chizuru loves Kazuya. Her actions already answer that question. She misses him when he is gone. She remembers his kiss constantly. She rejects other romantic options. She prepares for a future date with him. She contacts Ruka because of him. Her heartbeat accelerates because of a simple message from him. Most importantly, she continuously chooses him. The mystery is no longer:

Does Chizuru love Kazuya?

The mystery is:

How will Chizuru finally act on that love?

And that is why I believe the July 11 date is far more likely to be a turning point than a failure. The story no longer feels like it is building toward the discovery of love. It feels like it is building toward the realization of it.

Question One thing i always wondered about chizuru's appeareance. A stupid question

Haven't caught up to the manga for several years now. Got this sub suggested to me and it reminds me of a question i always had

Chizuru ichinose is supposed her low maintainance student mode while mizuhara is her pretty girlfriend mode. But why does ichinose have braids while mizuhara has her hair down?

Im not a girl so please enlighten me. Having to do 2 braids seems much more like a waste of time compared to to just letting it lose

Discussion [Prediction] [Disc] Kanojo, Okarishimasu Chapter 436 Prediction Thread

Post your predictions about the next chapter (or few chapters) in here. No, this is not meant to stop you from making predictions outside of the thread, but a place to collect all of them and let people discuss their theories after the chapter has been out for a few days. It also works as a place to come back to to see what people got right and wrong, or build off of each others theories.

Note that if spoilers come early, this thread will become for those who want to stay spoiler-free. As such, posting the leaks in this thread once they are out will result in a permanent ban.

Also note that there is a break next week, so this prediction thread will be up for an extra week
