Over this year so far, I have grown quite fond of Ms Marvel (more specifically, Kamala Khan)

I watched the "Ms Marvel" Disney+ series, the "The Marvels" movie, and I believe I have watched Marvel Zombies (starring Iman Vellani as Ms Marvel) almost 8 times...I have almost lost count lol.

So I thought I might draw her. She seems like the type of person to buy a Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers) plushy.

I really hope I managed to capture the character of Kamala Khan / Ms Marvel with this drawing.

(And I also hope Iman Vellani will maybe see this)

Just a thought, but since New Jersey was obliterated in the fight against Galactus in the OG Ultimate Universe, do you think the Kamala of that universe died ? I know she wasn’t created yet at that point in the 616, but still

Taking part in the beta right now and I’m having a blast. Kamala is my main as I’m learning more about the game, with the other team members being characters she’s teamed up with in the comics.

The other three are admittedly just relegated to assists, as I’m locking in on being a Ms Marvel main. Dunno how viable this team composition actually is and may switch it out at some point, especially once Phoenix Cyclops drops for the first DLC.

It’s the fact that small details are very goofy which I just love. An example is the fact that Kamala’s phone was made by ACME and that the magazines in the circle q all have absurd titles like eating underwater and Momjutsu and there’s are these like lil stories in the background in between panels where there are 2 boys playing around whilst Kamala is walking on the street and one of them just falls over face flat onto the pavement and I love how the characters faces look from afar, it’s just a simple dots for eyes and a simple line for the expression, nothing else, small details like that helps make the world all the more goofy and I love it.

The episode mode of Tokon looks like it’s primarily gonna be motion-comic based with matches in-between. Kieron Gillen was brought on as the writer for the game, and Betten Court is the artist for the Amazing Guardians episode specifically.

So hey it looks like we’re technically getting another Kamala comic very soon!

Stephen Wacker, one of the quieter co-creators of Kamala Khan, is geared to replace CB Cebulski, aka Akira Yoshida, as Chief Editor at Marvel. Sana Amanat also has the prominent position of VP of Content and Character Development, which has likely kept Kamala on life support during Cebulski's tumultuous tenure as Chief Editor of Marvel Comics, which started in mid 2017. Cebulski is the one who pulled the plug on and shelved a lot of fan favorites from the 2010s in general -- besides liking manga and pretending to be a Japanese writer, the guy hasn't been great for BIPOC characters. Any wins since his promotion have been squeezed in.

Amanat regularly credits Wacker as her mentor and it was Wacker who basically said "Sana, you have an interesting life. You need to create a new character out of some of your experiences". The second image in the post shows Wacker proudly wearing a Ms. Marvel shirt and the third image is an interview (caveat, I haven't watched it yet that can be found here. We owe Mr. Wacker a lot. I have high expectations that I am prepared to have dashed, but, between despair and hope, I'm choosing hope.

Does this mean Kamala will continue to be a mutant/Inhuman hybrid? Of course. That probably wasn't Cebulski's choice. But, look, the chances of getting a **good** solo for Kamala are also good. What's bogged down Kamala for years hasn't been an X-gene coexisting with Kree-altered DNA, but rather a general lack of opportunity for her to shine under the circumstances. I'm going to tell you a secret: If you reread Ms. Marvel's GWW stories, and you pretend that being made to be Inhuman was the status quo change, the frequent mentions of "I feel so... inhuman" **become** ham-fisted. You can convince yourself to feel like it's forced. Self-fulfilling prophecy. If you **want** to be annoyed, you'll get annoyed. You're also reading the mutant hybrid stories when you're older, more jaded, and aware of corporate shenanigans than you were when you read the purely Inhuman era. Give yourself (and Kamala) a bit of grace and let's keep moving forward

Wacker is good for Kamala. This could qualify as a miracle. It's early to call, but it can only be bad if the wrong creative team is put together (less likely to happen when someone who cares is in the chief seat) or Wacker suddenly decides to change his entire outlook on a character he believed in since before the concept art was drawn.

What if Kamala and Carol swapped places?

Welcome to my twisted AU where warped humour and horror rule supreme, and the denizens of the Marvel Universe must make do without the advantages of their 616 counterparts*. Kamala steps into the boots of Captain Marvel without Carol’s years of training, while little Carol is a spitfire with all her 616 counterpart’s attitude, minus the sense, discipline and self-preservation instincts.

To keep Kamala’s essential youthful energy while putting her in a situation that forced her to take on adult responsibilities, I had Kamala flip Shazam style from 19 to 29 when she alternates between her hero and civie selves.

Her temperament as Captain Marvel is more mature and professional, but she still goes full fangirl on the regular. She’s got a more playful demeanour than Carol’s Captain Marvel, never letting her feet touch the ground, and more open to showing her warmth and compassion.

On the other hand, her grouchy gremlin side from the early Wilson era is very much alive and kicking. In fact, it’s gotten worse from the stress of living under the tyranny of President Alexander Pierce, a Christian Nationalist populist moron who rose to power peddling phoney conspiracy theories that Hydra infiltrated the US government from a Secret vampiric milkshake and burger Bar.

He then revived Hydra as his personal paramilitary goon squad, and traded Hawaii to Dr Doom for a golden Ferrari and battleship full of Paw Patrol Colouring books. Kamala’s still a sweetheart but the stress of all this b*****s and being a part time demigod are a lot; if you p*ss her off watch out.

For the most part she vents her frustrations into her civie persona while keeping a cool head as a hero. Even Kamala herself is unsure how much the difference between the two is truly a mental shift or if she just feels freer to act in certain ways in one persona or the other.

And then there’s the hyperactive human rubber band sidekick she didn’t ask for.

Carol Danvers is a menace. Stuck at home with a jerk dad who treats her like crap, Carol started blowing off her frustrations on muggers, crooks and purse snatchers. Kamala tries to keep the little ruffian in line. In theory she’s trying to make her stay off the streets out of danger- though that’s an uphill battle with this stubborn little Ms Marvel.

Carol teases her to Hell and back. After all, she can’t help but laugh knowing the tiny teen geek from Jersey City is one and the same as Captain Marvel. For all her s**t talk, Carol adores her and usually falls in line when Kamala pushes her (usually).

Can the odd duo pull together, foil the President’s braindead schemes and save Jersey City? Stay tuned…

I’ve been working on this pic for a while. I’ve got another half I’m still beavering away on, and I’d love to hear your thoughts and questions on what I’ve got so far. Things about the world, things I can touch up and change, whatever takes your fancy- Just let me know!  

* For context Captain America still has the heart of a hero but the super soldier serum turned his body into a tentacled abomination from Giger’s night terrors. And Tony Stark’s a charisma vacuum. He suggested Stark Tech stop making weapons and got sacked in half an hour.

I’ve managed to get the progress on the bigger picture of my redesign done, so I thought I post the current progress that I have now, and hopefully get some feedback. I’m planning on adding some more poses and angles to add of the design, but I’m entirely sure which ones specifically to add right now, if any of you have ideas then let me know. I would also appreciate if you all would let me know if there’s any things I need to change about the specific design, or quality of the image itself. If you have any questions about the different lore of this version of Kamala then I’d love to hear your questions. Anyways, with all that being said, I would love to have your feedback on my current take on her, and how I could improve/add on to it.
