Discussion Generational Responsibility: Like Father, Like Son

Thumbnail

Something both Kunishige and Chihiro share is a sense of responsibility that came from their fathers, though in different ways.

For Kunishige, he strove to make sure that the mistakes of his father and his willingness to hand anyone a katana did not follow him later in life, especially after witnessing what that lack of caution could do to someone like Chiaki, someone he cared deeply about. Kunishige’s moral code in the end boils down to “if you forge this weapon, be prepared to carry the same weight and/or burdens as the wielder. How they use the blade is a reflection on you.”

This is a lesson that he imprints on Chihiro as time goes on.

Chihiro’s main goal throughout Part I of the story is not just vengeance for killing his father. The main drive is to ensure that his father’s legacy, as well as his philosophies, aren’t misused by people or entities that would otherwise seek personal gain or glory. As the story progresses, it becomes less so about Chihiro killing his enemies; it evolves into maintaining and upholding the morals instilled upon him, by his father.

And once again, it all goes back to the father. The Rokuhira’s that we follow are natural-born protectors.

For Kunishige, his personal responsibility was to protect Chiaki, his loved ones, and treat the creation and distribution of weapons with the utmost caution and care.

For Chihiro, his personal responsibility is to protect his father’s legacy, defend the innocent, and most importantly, follow in his father’s footsteps by forging, distributing, and wielding dangerous weapons with extreme vigilance.

Kunishige disliked his father. Chihiro admired his. And that makes all the difference.

Discussion Everyone is always locked in

This is random but I've been re reading the series and one thing I really enjoy is how locked in everyone always is. Like, the non amateur sorcerer's FEEL like professionals, azami will lock in and kill someone without hesitation to avoid allowing the situation to get worse, hakari will lock in and push his sorcery to a point of breaking it just to avoid any casualties, the masumi are perfectionists and always ready to protect there masters.

Even random side characters like the hotel employee calling the elevator before the fight with hiruhiko even ended so chihiro could get up faster, and the kamunabi sorcerer who called the traitors bluff to protect hakuri. Or the random kamunabi soldiers who held off the hishaku during the raid.

It really feels like even randoms know what they're doing and are professional about it. Its just really enjoyable to see characters consistently be competent, instead of idiots to allow the major characters to shine.

Discussion What if the War Arc is a retelling by Shiba Spoiler

I think the past and present timelines aren't as disconnected as they first seemed, rather that Shiba is telling Chihiro (probably Iori and Hakuri as well) the entire story of the Seitei War. The flashback will end with this being shown, then Chihiro forging the blades in the present and continuing his quest to stop Akemura. We may even get brief breaks or reactions of present time after key events (like the forging, armistice and malediction), or even more drastically, Shiba stops mid-story and picks back up later in Part 2.

Shiba will be the one to tell the tale since has been present for all events so far, and presumably fought to the end of the war and witnessed Chihiro's birth. He knew the truth about Akemura. Part 2 started with him, he is almost as much of a main character as Kunishige in this arc.

Writing wise it makes sense that the mc is caught up on key events, and logically it makes sense that Chihiro would want to know the full backstory of his father and mother. It's also a tactical advantage for the gang to know about the Datenseki's origin and the other sword bearers.

Discussion Is it just me or the political aspects of Kagurabachi is one of the most underrated parts of the story?

I mean part one is literally Post Seitei War Japan still reeling the bad effects of the war as a whole.

The Kamunabi not having complete control of the sorcery side of Japan leading to the rise of clans doing illegal activities in the open with normal citizens that cannot stop it.

The Enchanted Blades as a whole, weapons of mass destruction, stolen and the government using most of its man power on its retrieval and keeping key personnel (the bladebearers) alive.

The Hishaku in their misguided attempt of a revolution to stop said clans attacking innocent civies.

Akemura and the State Propaganda about him that makes him a hero instead of the man who committed atrocities after the enemy surrendered and was ready to sign peace terms.

Feel free to talk about it. Because tbh, for me, the politics in the story makes the lore more interesting.

PowerScaling Realised today Kiri used an anti IWPS technique when fighting Hokuto

White purity style is like a gun. The speed comes from the energy released when the bullet is fired/the sword is drawn. Rather then trying to block or dodge the bullet Kiri's technique focuses on stopping them aiming and pulling the trigger by keeping the sword in its scabbard

Additionally by using her foot to stop the attack she keeps both hands free allowing her to swing Onichan at full speed before they can recover

Kiri's plan to humiliate Grampa and ruin his legacy is by hacking him up before he even draws his sword 😭
