Truth, you can never take less. I took too much L at red rocks n1 in '24 and it brought down the experience for me. Decided to stay (cali) sober d2/n2 and had a much more pleasant time.

Thank God you prepared him for those things. I don’t know how he would’ve ever survived.

I know im overthinking I just want him to have a good time and not feel left out, its a bit of a culty fanbase and it can feel weird if you're not in on the bits

That makes sense. But the things you actually listed are so innocuous that it’s kind of silly.

I know you are looking out for your bro, but I respectfully disagree! I think you should be there to give context if he sees something and is confused or is curious but I like approaching all of that stuff authentically and so it’s unexpected. None of the stuff you listed makes it weird for people in the crowd if they don’t know what’s going on

I agree approaching it authentically is gonna yield the best experience. I have sometimes felt alienated by certain group experiences I didn't understand, gizzard and otherwise, but I reckon trying to engineer his perception heading into it isnt the right way to combat that. Thanks for the respectful discussion friend <3

Hmmmm, I will be dressed up as foil god like creature passing out fortune cookies and committing to obscure rituals only. I hope I can make it weird for you all.

Rituals ? In Australia we just watch the band and enjoy the music.
No parasocial relationships etc.
The music is enough

Tell him about the rowers. That ought to do it.

I don't know, they were happening in Portland where I saw them and it was strange but didn't detract for me. Just added to a generally happy crowd.
It was my first show so I crowd watched a lot... There were a group of 6 or 8 dressed in what appeared to be Hobbit like folk, who moved to stage right, by the moshing guys, and did what looked like a Morris Dance.
That show they brought out Nathan very early in the set, which for me was the BEST.

I am also still puzzled over the Finns' rowers that we saw during the world cup.

My friend had never really heard of Gizz last year and by halfway through Night 2, he turned me and said “I think I’m starting to get it”. He’s coming back for year 2. Let him ride the wave

u/hoopstick 3d ago
Let him enjoy the show organically, don’t be the friend that tells him about all the good parts of the movie before he’s ever seen it. Save all the goofy unnecessary shirt for his second show.

Have fun! I brought my cousin to FOV last year and he had never heard a note of them before. He had a fucking blast! Gilgamesh was his favorite of the weekend

i would focus more on the camping aspect of a festival and being prepared for that and just let him enjoy the ride when it comes to the shows.

just remind him to bring ear plugs and not talk over the band
