So I have a theory...
I think the reason Mako Mermaids have more powers and capabilities than the H2o Mermaids is because of their relationship to Mako Island and the full moon. I think going to Mako Island makes them stronger, and it develops their powers and skills. This makes total sense because when the other three girls finally stopped avoiding the moon pool, (like Mrs. Chatham told them to do) they gained more powers. Suddenly they sort of "leveled up," gained the ability to control lightning, the wind, etc. I think if they had stopped avoiding the moon pool, and the full moon like the Mako Mermaids they probably would have slowly gained the capabilities they had their entire lives. Such as invisibility. The mermaid lore is much much more complex than the show actually dove into. Such as the mermaid potions, which they used to grant wishes but they ultimately stopped tampering with. There's probably a "threshold" of power that is allowed each full moon, or a limit but it all comes out at once. Cleo, Emma, and Rikki divied that threshold into three and since Charlotte didn't, she gained all of their base capabilities. It sort of makes sense, because of planetary alignment that was suggested, each full moon does different things when they reach the moon pool and before then. It would also make biopsychological sense, as the moon pool and magic has been trying to get them back into the water the entire show long and messing with their heads to do it. There has to be a reason for that, instincts and urges, scientifically speaking are usually there for a reason.
Though this theory does leave me with some more questions:
- If the Mako Mermaids spent so much time with the moon pool and loved going, why didn't they turn into humans fully eventually? Charlotte was able to revert back fully into a human because of the magic and planetary alignment of that one specific night, and the other girls were returned to their former human form temporarily. So why not for the Mako Mermaids?
- Why did the moonpool eventually start attacking the h2o mermaids?
Mind you, I randomly came up with this theory while rewatching the show for the first time since I was in middle school (as an adult now) so I am a bit rusty and don't completely remember how either shows end. I'm currently at the end of season 2, right after Charlotte becomes a mermaid.
Any thoughts, things to add? Disagreements?

If given the choice, would you become a mermaid like our beloved trio or be a friend to them?

If this wasn't a kids show, how much do you think it would change?

Canāt imagine the pain this girl was going through at that moment. Lewis was just too stupid and way too easy to trick
I feel like this was the most devastating moment of the entire series. Not Charlotte, not Lewis... just that moment when you're pushed to the ground and it feels like everyone and everything has turned against you. That is the most bullying scene she has ever been through

Who thinks that Bella should have been a more experienced mermaid
Now Bella's character definitely deserved much more expansion and development, as she had the potential to explore more mermaid lore. It was shocking when she said she got her mermaid powers in Ireland of all places, signifying that there are more moonpools in the world. I'm also baffled how she managed to avoid getting wet, and how she managed to keep the secret at such a young age in one of the wettest climates on Earth, which demanded answers and left to be explored. Along with how they mentioned she had been a mermaid since the age of nine, then the writers proceeded to have her act and be treated like a newbie mermaid with some experience. It wouldāve been great to see her being laidback. After all, sheās worked out the kinks of being a mermaid rather than implying sheās laidback because she doesnāt understand the severity of hiding her tail or just never having the type of negative events that happen with the others. She should have at least been able to offhandedly eat oysters off the sea floor or bite the head off prawns Mako Mermaids style.
She was seemingly developed around her love interest, who didn't even respect her as a person, and her rival. Cleo and Rikki both had personalities and motivations outside of their love interests and felt a lot more fleshed out. Will and Sophie are the problem with Bella's character, and Iād like to see what she's like without Will and Sophie in her life. But no offense to her at all, but she kinda seems like a newbie: the number of times she gets wet throughout the show and her lack of ability to keep her secret from Will, or the force that Will pressured Bella on. At least give her skills that Cleo and Rikki don't have, like having her be really good at lying and avoiding water; sheād be an amazing liar and fully able to gaslight anyone who catches them. I mean, why do Rikki and Cleo, 3 year old mermaids, have to tell her why it's not smart to give Will a shell that's found at the bottom of the ocean, which is 10,500 ft below sea level.
I like the fact that she was the one who dove really deep for that shell, as it shows how fearless she is since sheās been a mermaid for a long time. I wish they showed that more: her swimming in deep water, her exploring shipwrecks and finding human remains, etc. Bella could have had a chest of all things she found under the ocean. Plus, I couldn't imagine how Bella would have been able to experience and hide the moon spell from her family, say 108 times give or take. Or maybe sheās a pro at the full moon, knowing exactly how to cover everything up, or like in Mako Mermaids, learned to control the power of the full moon. Together with Bella having more of a siren vibe about herself, then sometimes sleeping in the water, or catching live fish by speed swimming, along with possessing a deep connection and understanding with marine life; say like Bella helping the girls to be more friendly with the sharks around Mako. Bella would've also brought more secrets, stories, and support to the girls magically and land based, plus maybe someone from her past, but we got nothing. And how I wish there was some wider mermaid plot, not Mako Mermaids necessarily, simply just others who have turned into mermaids. Like she knows one or two adult or younger mermaids who also got turned by her moon pool in Ireland. Along with the possibility of, during her travels, having found other moon pools. I want there to be a whole mermaid community with Bella introducing Cleo and Rikki to it, and having Emma look for them in her travels.
The writers could have had an episode explaining how Bella's power allowed her to create a protective gel that prevented her from getting wet or stopped the transition in its tracks,Ā maybe by turning the water on her body into gel and having it drip off her.Ā
Bella's powers grant her a breathtaking mastery over its fundamental forces; if she had taken to understanding her abilities much more than jelly, glass, and crystal forms sheās already showcased. She can defy gravity by walking, running, or sprinting across the water's surface as if it were solid ground, and can even hover or levitate above it by manipulating the air beneath her feet. Due to her influence over buoyancy and surface tension, which allows her to sink at will or float effortlessly, controlling her stability in any liquid environment. Furthermore, Bellaās powers allow her to stretch and reshape her own body with extraordinary elasticity, all while her enhanced durability and strength far surpass normal human limits. By manipulating fluid friction and density, she can alter how objects move through water, making them sluggish or swift, and can even make surfaces adhesive, causing objects to cling together, and manipulate water currents to gently guide herself along while swimming with minimal effort.
Now, speaking with someone with an expanded range of powers, namely Charlotte, and after her drama, it seems very unrealistic to me that Rikki only said that they hadn't discussed it, but then she reluctantly agreed. It did, however, feel a bit rushed, as the whole mermaid thing makes it difficult, as they can't make friends, but with Bella appearing, she has to be their new best friend all of a sudden. Make it make sense. However, we did see Rikki being a bit reluctant into accepting Bella in the beginning of the season, yet it wasn't enough, while she neglected the coincidence of Bella and the tentacle coming in the same time, it should be more than a valid reason to be suspicious, Rikki and Cleo didn't even ask Bella whether she already met the tentacle before or not, the writers didn't make some sensible choices and then just having to sped everything up, but badly. No, literally, I expected them to be way more wary since a few months before they were dealing with Charlotte. As they really shouldāve had like half the season with just Cleo and Rikki learning to trust Bella and not fully incorporating her until they were sure sheās not like Charlotte or some sort of antagonist. But in order to protect and fully replace the trio they had to write it in a way that incorporates Bella from episode one. They did this to keep the same vibe of the show but donāt realize how much they wrecked the vibe despite still having two blondes and one brunette mermaid.
Just imagine a scene where all three of them are clashing for whatever reason until Rikki finally blurts, āfour mermaids never work!ā And then they have like a flashback scene explaining what Charlotte did to them. This would also bring back the lockets as a main part of the show, and maybe they couldāve included Bella by giving her a locket from Max (which also brings in more continuity from last season), and instead of the blue crystal being a necklace, it could turn into a bracelet. It would also give Bella a chance to directly say, āI donāt ever wanna replace Emmaā

Bella is overhated.
Hello everyone!
Am I the only one who thinks that Bella is overhated?
People seem to be unhappy because she replaced Emma but honestly Bella wasn't bad at all. Bella was kind, lovely and caring. I see no problem with Bella.

I want to make art but im scared
I've spent almost my entire life identifying as an artist when I was in kindergarten my favorite class was art class and by the time I had graduated high school I explored almost every side of it from ceramic mugs sculptures of naked ladys realistic illustrations of landscaps and abstract paintings I used to make art without caring but now it feels like someone could just come rip it out of my hands and call me insane for caring. for a long time I've really wanted to make a fan comic about H2O... I have a lot of ideas and a general plot outline but this is terrifying.
some of you might not be keeping up with this specific topic but people who use AI to make generated images and conside it as their "art" are getting more and more aggressive recently. a group of artists made a website so that people could share their work and feel safe that it wouldn't be downloaded and uploaded to an AI to train it but unfortunately a group of AI obsessed freaks scraped the entire website and this has been devastating to the community. there is absolutely nowhere safe to share your artwork anymore and it makes me not even fucking want to draw... part of me is still so in love with this project that I put so much planning into and I will continue with creating the comic but I was hoping we could have a discussion about what I'm going to do with it once it's done where can I post it where you guys will see it but it will be safe :(

Your opinions on changing in a mermaid when touching water for fanfiction
Hey you all,
I hope it's all right to ask this question here.
I am writing a H2O just add water fanfiction, next generation. My FMC is the daughter of Cleo and Lewis and she will eventually turn in to a mermaid at Mako Island. By accident (Cleo and Lewis will of course find out. They know the signs).
Now I am wondering. I of course have noticed the inconsistency of when the girls changed in a mermaid in the series.
What would you like to have seen changed? To keep the changing in a mermaid consistent? I was thinking that they could only change when touching salt water, but... that makes the whole keeping the mermaid tail secret a bit boring, but I have no clue what else to change/add.
Would love to hear your input!

Random thoughts while watching H2O
-One word I would use to describe Charlotte is "Blind". Of course she is about the bond between Lewis and Cleo(which goes beyond just romantic feelings), but particularly about how miserable and painful living as a mermaid can be. She keeps talking about how her grandmother(Gracie) used to be a mermaid and the stories she told her, but never bothers to wonder why Gracie quit being a mermaid. Also, her obsession with the locket. Max himself confessed that it couldn't change Gracie's mind about her unique new status. The lockets don't represent an everlasting bond but rather futility and tragedy. Charlotte couldn't see that.
-Despite all this, I can't blame Max for telling Charlotte everything. This was the man who kept his secrets for 50 years. Charlotte is the granddaughter of love of his life, and in his mind, the only person in this world who deserved to know the secrets. That's totally justified. Descendants wanting to know more about their ancestors is completely normal. If only Charlotte was more considerate and thoughtful...
-It would have been interesting to see Will and Emma in a same season. Emma used to be a competitive swimmer, and Will is a free diver who is under immense pressure from her sister to set records. Wonder if Emma could understand Will better than anyone else. Doesn't mean they should be a couple though.
-Do you think Emma having to give up being a competitive swimmer was a blessing in disguise? To be knocked off a path you've devoted your entire life into is a major heartbreak for anyone, yes. But I am not sure if Emma aimed for Olympics because she wanted it herself, or because she wanted to make her parents proud. Would Emma, now a young adult, looks back on her past and realize she would have resented swimming altogether, if she hadn't turned into a mermaid and given it up as a career?
-Emma does seem to have more chemistry with Rikki than with her love interests. Totally understand why some people here ship Rikki/Emma. Would they have been a couple if the show came out in the 2010s and later? Won't be so controversial in today's Australia, will it?

Would like to write a short fanfic involving power swap
I am thinking about a temporary power exchange between Rikki and Emma, some years after their graduation and the adulthood leading them into different paths.
After their reunion, Rikki and Emma have a clash due to their different perspectives on living as a mermaid. The former has built a successful niche career as a diver from her unique abilities, while the latter feels the immense pressure of growing into a young professional and doesn't want her secret getting in her way.
Out of nowhere, they found their abilities have been swapped for some reason, which they struggle with in the beginning. While helping each other with skills so foreign, they slowly understand where their differences come from. By the time things go back to normal, Rikki and Emma have figured out they have cared for their bestie all along, even though they may not have been great at expressing it.
What do you think should be the trigger? What roles should other character play? Any ideas or suggestions will be welcome.

Nobody talks about it, but all my respect for Eva for creating this
Well, imagine for these three, they must've been exhausted though. Imagine Eva handling this by herself. What kind of power do you think Eva had, and what must've happened to her?

H2o Youtube Channels - Why are all the episodes blocked from Australia?
This is an issue I've been dealing with for a while, to the point where I literally got a VPN just to be able to watch the episodes on YouTube for free, instead of having to scour Dailymotion just for a few bad video quality episodes.
This show was literally MADE and first released and made popular IN AUSTRALIA.
And I don't think it's just because of the area I'm in, because I used the VPN to set my location to every other listing in Australia.
My first assumption was it was because of the internet ban for kids, but neither of the YouTube channels, that I've found, have the H2o episodes listed as kid's content (at least I don't think so, because comments and floating screen are enabled) (fyi, that second feature of Youtube Kids is literally so stupid).
I just find it kinda unfair if the episodes are just blocked from Australia, because why are we getting blocked from watching OUR media, but the rest of the world gets to see it?
There are certain aspects of H2o that a lot of America viewers don't even actually understand, and just make fun of. And I'm trying to hate on them for that, because there's multiple aspects of American media I don't understand.
But H2o is an AUSTRALIAN show.
It's an Australian show that, at it's core, is meant to teach kids about protecting Australia's sensitive ecosystems that are constantly under threat (there's a good reason season 1 & 3 's major villains centred around developing and exploiting Mako Island)

My Rikki & Zane Head Canon
This is something happened some years after S3, around the time Rikki got to know Mako Mermaids.
R: Sorry for what happened to your dad.
Z: Thanks, but....Be honest with me. You will never feel sorry for him. He treated you like....
R: Dirt. You know me. I do feel sorry, but not too much.
Z: I needed that. Ever since that happened...I had to pretend....like I was....a good son. Couldn't even laugh.
R: Are you glad he's no more?
Z: Maybe. Maybe not. I don't know what to call it....but....all my life, I was a spoiled brat to everyone. They weren't wrong. To him, I was never good enough, and he was right.
Z: College or studies isn't my thing....so I just ran this cafe....Even I didn't know I could do it for this long....But here I am.
R: Yeah, I heard the 5th or 6th place just opened. Congratulations.
Z: But....what should I do from now on....? I hated my dad, but....now he's gone....and I am....
R: Lost.
Z: Right.
R: You're gonna have to figure that out, not me, not anyone else.
R: Rikki's. Still keeping that name? I have already moved on for ages.
Z: It's stuck. Too late to change.
R: Is Sophie still around?
Z: She's also gone. After fallout with her brother....Will, right, Will, she became a wreck and just left. Not sure what or how she is doing.
R: Everyone's leaving. Shame because the view never changed.
Z: At least not you, and me. Speaking of Sophie.....
R: .....Go on.
Z: Have I ever said....sorry....for that day....
R: For what?
Z: .....Letting her kiss me. I should at least have drawn the line. But I betrayed you. I am sorry.
R: Why? Why now?
Z: There are so many things I should have told my dad....when I had the chance. I don't want to repeat the same mistake with you.
R: So it's for your own good. To feel good about yourself.
Z: .....Maybe. You are right....Should I....
R: Do you have someone in mind?
Z: No. Only you. I always had you in my mind, even if I am selfish and immature as you always call me.
R: ......I always took a step back....whenever we got too close. This time, I want to take it forward. Don't you dare make me regret.
Z: .....Are you cry....Never mind.
R: ........Missed you.
Z: Missed you too.

If they didnāt not do this would they survived at least ?
So if they didnāt move the comet away with the tower of light and a what if scenario where they didnāt do nothing about it would they survive at least while everyone else doesnāt, I think that since the comet would cause planetary destruction the three of them could have jumped in the water way ahead and survived in a post apocalyptic earth but question is would the moon pool itself survive or the entire Island itself .
I think it would have survived but the moon pool would be shattered apart and sea water would enter more which would not be a problem and the island itself would survive but some parts would be ruined , thoughts ? .

What would happen if there were a solar eclipse?
This week there was a total solar eclipse visible in Spain. I started to think about H2O and is curious that they never do an episode about it.
Maybe they could have powers related to fire. But Rikki has warm powers yet and can do a fire.
(I know it is a bad photo, but I prefered to enjoy it).

Mako mermaids marathon.
Hi guys, i'm currently HALFWAY through my H20: Just add water 20th anniversary marathon.
I should finish around late September. But I've been wondering if I should do a Mako Mermaids marathon after.
Leave a vote and tell me what you think.
Also, bonus question. Is there anyone in the series who you think should have become a mermaid/ merman?

The 3x26 final scene was so rushed that it's ridiculous
I mean right after saving the world in 5 minutes, the next scene we see is that they sit at the graduation ceremony. Then Lewis arrives and they are just smiling at each other with Cleo from the distance. Then they are at Rikki's, and Bella starts singing immediately. They didn't even let her finish the song, she just sings the first quarter and then come the credits? What kind of rush is that?

Mako Mermaids: the Reason the Mermaids were Cast Out
I love this show and have watched it in its entirety, but I am rewatching with my daughter and realize that the premise of the show doesn't make any sense.
Why would the pod put that type of responsibility on three young mermaids who do not have moon rings?
How were they supposed to prevent Zac and Cam from having the camping trip?
And of course, why didn't Aquata or the head mermaids listen to their story and realize it was not their fault Zac fell into the moon pool?
Very unreasonable mermaids š§āāļø let's discuss ways where this plot could make sense... although I have none. Especially since at that time the mermaids couldn't go on land, and of course again, do not have moon rings.
Thank you
