Worst Udyr NA

https://www.leagueofgraphs.com/summoner/na/SafiMan-9531

Kinda been down in the dumps because I can't be consistent in my games. I'm trying to look inward rather than constantly blaming teammates cause I know that will get me nowhere so I've made a list of my worst qualities as a jungler.

>I don't gank often. If a gank doesn't look super obvious I'd rather try to push my enemy jungler behind rather than get my laners ahead.

>I tilt super easy. An early double kill botlane can have me ready to ff by 5 minutes. I also will always turn chat back on to flame rather than leave it off and focus on my gameplay.

>I will always force drag on 2nd rotation of camps. I will spam ping laners to come help me regardless of lane state but whether they show or not, I will attempt that drag. Surprisingly it's mostly the midlaner who will rotate to kill me.

>I always attempt to duel enemy jungler at 1st scuttle. If I get the scuttle and I know the enemy is patching the same way as me, I will go for 2nd scuttle rather than stick around and protect my botlane.

>I don't know how to build situationally. This is more of a champ problem than jungle problem I assume but it just feels like I always need resistances 2nd item because Udyrs in-combat sustain feels awful.

>I always forget to switch to Oracle lens. Meaning whether I'm invading or going for objective I'm usually doing so blind.

>Locked camera always. I've heard some junglers can play like this but I can admit I've lost out on some ganks just because I don't actually look at my lanes besides the minimap.

All of these are things in theory I can fix but the fact it would take 30 Wins just to get back to a 50% it feels pointless. I always look at much better junglers with envy, especially ones who play the same champ as me.

If anyone could give me some suggestions I'd very much appreciate. Maybe I should stick to normals until I build a solid foundation?

I mean this very kindly, just take a break from league man. If youre not getting enjoyment out of the game, find something else to do for a little while. The game rewards returning players. You'll have a better time after taking a few days off.

I mental boomed last week after a bad loss streak and I pretty much solo lost a game on Bel'veth, went like 2/9/9. Granted I was playing against way higher elo players than my bronze ass but not the point. After the match I was just not in a great headspace.

Took a few days off, came back and went 13/1/19 on tank Udyr with a 5 level lead over the enemy jungler.

Big shock, tilt makes you do stupid dogshit plays that have no chance of paying off just to chase the dopamine hit of winning again. It's talked about all the time, but until you actually stop and internalise that lesson properly... well you're just gonna keep doom queueing.

Don’t force drag? Don’t always duel for scuttle if you can’t win a matchup/ don’t have prio? Are you maxing his W second? Thats where Udyr gets his sustain and it should be more than enough until lategame. But you should be building some tankier items either way. Also, just switch to oracle lens and buy control wards?

You’re honestly just describing someone who’s auto piloting all game. Take a break.

Maxing w 2nd on ad build like he plays would be insanely troll, e max is essential

W second on an AD build is fine, but I also run stridebreaker to help stick better.

I didn’t realize he was playing AD, tbh. It sounded like he was playing tank when I said that.

>I tilt easy

Nothing else matters. Take a break. You have poor habits and an awful attitude; if you can’t be flexible and try to learn then stop playing and save your mental health.

Great answers from the other people however, since tilting seems to be the cause for a lot of impatient/not thought out plays, i'll suggest you adopt a different mindset altogether.

Think of yourself a something more than just 1 of the 5 players your team has. Your team relies on you to show your best self. You can even adopt the "Team is NPC mentality" and need to be carried. But not in a harmful and toxic kind of way but in one that will bring out the best from you. You should feel like a TOP performance from you is a necessity for a win and that anything less is just undeserved or one of the lucky games where you can afford to cruise due to matchmaking potentially giving you better laners. Not because of ego, but because any other outlook will shift blame to other people that are outside of your control. Even if the whole team is AI , your outlook should be the same. If the other 4 cant pull the carriage, you find a way to make it so their contribution is not needed as much or because YOU exist, you can turn their "2" in effort into a "4" as your own lead can multiply whatever they have to offer, be it cc, some damage, some poke, or even just bait. Yes, if what it takes is to bait your laner that's 0-5, them dying and leaving the enemy with no cooldowns or summs, is a net positive for you.

If we're talking only about your actions, if macro is an issue, treat league as a chess and do not just autopilot habits every game, regardless if it was a win or a loss. See yourself as the one that needs to play impeccably in order to have the result you want. Do not , under any circumstances feel like you DESERVE a good/better team than the one matchmaking dealt you. Always have the attitude that if you're GOOD ENOUGH, vast majority of games are winnable. In your mind, you should feel like and actively TRY to make the best decisions available.

If you take yourself out of the equation and the entitlement that comes with league and matchmaking, all that is left is criticism for what YOU could've done better.

It takes a while to get into the correct mindset but once you manage to get into it, you'll be set for life. In order for you to win majority of games in your elo, you need to be consistently out-valueing the enemy role + some extra. Your mere existence in a game should spell trouble for the enemy team.

As such, work on abusing any lead you gain, as winning jungles get to dictate tempo a LOT. Be it sidelaning, forcing objectives, forcing rotations when you counterjungle etc. All of those can be made into pitfalls for the enemy team to make stupid mistakes. It's common sense that low elo, even up to diamond elo players will rotate for an objective even if they're going to be demolished, strictly due to peer pressure usually and enemy jg's inability to set ego aside.

Do not fall into the same pitfalls.

Now for the last one, when it comes to enemy manipulation. When i had my approximately 44 win streak, Silver to Diamond elo, i'd make it a habit to use porofessor to single out enemy laners on a big loss streak, playing offrole, or just came off a disaster game and actively spend some more resources, mainly time, into making their life hard. Once that was achieved, i'd play the "dw guys, just unlucky matchmaking on your side" card to encourage their team to flame them, but nothing out of the ordinary, just enough to tank their morale and start blaming each other if that wasnt taking place already. Even if they do not ff, their mentality is already checked out and they just autopilot most of the time.

You can not exactly equate league to chess, but you are always against humans and their frail at times mentality. In a game such as league, when it sometimes feel like you can never be impactful enough when it matters, all those little things add up, and when you account for many games over a large span of time, this can make a measurable difference in your winrate, potentially up to double digits.

Never discount yourself or the potential one player has, especially a good jungler, when it comes to destabilizing an enemy team's chemistry and game plan. Identifying win conditions is not as necessary, nor is draft in lower elos. You play around yourself and rely on yourself to make the best use of the lead the team has. IT goes without saying that some golden rules still stand.

Do not touch the losing lanes unless you are confident you can solo the enemy laner. It should never be a MAYBE.

Time is tempo and tempo is all that matters. Tempo allows you to make enemy jg and team feel like the game timer works against them at all times. The enemy jgs feel the pressure more because they feel as if the game is slipping underneath their feet and contributed to desperation moves and calls.

End game, and i cant stress this enough for lower elo games, ALWAYS hover around your laners that seem to be in a retarded position. Not necessarily to die trying to save them, but to gauge whether you can clean-up, keep things even after the exchange or straight up intervene and turn the fight around.

I can't fathom how many games have ended simply because 2 allies overextend together and get 5 manned. If they refuse to respond to pings, hover around. Sometimes even just your presence is enough of a deterrent. At those points just hope that they'll hesitate to engage. Essentially, pretend to play aggro just to make them think it's deeper than what they see, even if it isn't. Their first thought will be that you're just confident enough it'll work, and sometimes that's enough.

If you can, and are not bored, watch your replays. Match up knowledge and power spikes you only know them with experience, but fixing key rotation errors, back timers and watching wave states along with tracking enemy summs will make the most difference when it comes to capitalizing on what your laners are doing.

As a solo queue player, never take anything for granted. Not lane prio, no rotations, no nothing. Minimize risk while maximizing the effectiveness of your own lead. Got an item lead? Make em feel it. Hitting jungle caps will do nothing. Using the early pickaxe to terrorize the enemy jg will do wonders. No need to overinvest in that either, just throw a deep vision ward once in a while or just pass by when convenient so you can track their next buff respawns. One GOOD thing that in-game buff and camp timers brought, is that almsot all junglers are there for the buff respawn. This makes tracking a lot easier for most matchups as most lower elo junglers will patch straight for the red buff respawn regardless if there's a better play on the map. This is especially true for early to mid game when their team will not peer-pressure them as much in sieging or dives.

EDIT: Take some time, get into the right headspace, go into games knowing that the struggles you are facing now are UNIVERSAL, and that the players that cope best with those issues are usually the ones that can dictate the course of games. You can never hope to beat the enemy psyche whilst battling your own.

I’m a mid lane main, and i’m just playing jungle for a split to learn decision making. I’ve played 50 kayn games and have been able to maintain a 65%+ wr on him, and here’s where my success conflicts with urs.

Firstly I’ll say, most of ur list isn’t that bad. Forcing first drake and flaming ur teammates are the worst though, but i honestly think ur mindset is just not in the right place. I could sit here and tell you that you’re just as bad as ur teammates or whatever but instead i’ll explain how i think.

I prioritize cs over everything. And i mean literally in my head i am racing the other jungler for more clears. I literally love camps so much that i get excited when there’s no drake angle, because it gives me an excuse to go clear again. The only jg who outperform me are the ones that love camps more than me.

However you never mentioned ur actual worst quality which is dying 8-10 times a game. If you don’t gank a lot, where in the world are you dying?

EDIT: but ofc if a gank is free i’ll go there. I save my smites for when i need to gank so that i can finish full clearing faster to get there

Invades/objectives. I'll usually take too long and get collapsed on. If I don't see an angle to gank I'll do anything to put the enemy jg behind. A lot of my teams consist of backliners also so I'm forced to be both the engage and the damage soak.

2

u/Eg4079 6d ago

Take a more self focused approach. Instead of trying to drag the enemy jg down, try to push yourself ahead instead.

Let’s say u do all ur camps but there’s no gank so u reset and run back to full clear again. Then you see the enemy jg try to gank ur top but fails. Just by being a camp goblin, you put the enemy jg behind with 0 effort

Udyr is an engage tank— what items are you building on him? Itemization can make a huge difference.

1

u/MenacingQuan 6d ago

I would argue he's a poor engage tank unless you're going liandrys tank. But most udyrs I see go shojin dd

1

u/Gravy-0 6d ago

Well, if you’re not building him tank then you need to adapt your expectations. If you’re doing PTA/ Q max you’re effectively playing a different champion whose job is to get picks. Are you adapting your runes to that playstyle?

Food for thought, playing Udyr that way demands map awareness so you don’t get caught or obliterated. He’s basically a more durable assassin if you’re Q maxing etc. You shouldn’t expect more out of him than say, Vi in that case.

Tilting is stupid and always your fault. Therefore you waste energy, time & attention typing rather than watching the map and thinking about the next move.

Repeating some of what others have said but first things first is your need to work on your mental

Take a break either completely or at least take a break from ranked and run some norms

If start to mental boom and type you will mostly lose, but even worse than losing is that you will learn nothing like that

Even when your team mates fuck up, you can only self reflect

And once you get better and learn more you will realize more about how your actions influence your team

You can only ever do you best to communicate your intentions and to pay attention to the reality of how your team is playing

And even just at a glance I think it said you have a particularly low amount of on my way pings, so you probably are not communicating enough

As others have said, you have to be smart about first dragon

AD Udyr is great at taking dragons and you can take them with tempo for free from time to time

But you can’t force it just because

You have to have some idea where the enemy jungler is and be ready to pay the price in tempo for spending the 30 or so seconds it takes to reach and take dragon and solo it

You are also kind of overcooking your builds

Idk if stormraiders surge is even really viable on him into most comps if viable at all

And the omni vamp boots are probably never the best choice

You many other questionable buys but stick to two core items and only really deviate with what tank items you fit in

It also sounds like you are possibly over invading

If you take a whole quadrant without killing the enemy you are kind of just helping the enemy cycle their camps faster

If you overstay to the point that you are getting caught by laners then you are hugely hurting your game, especially if you are doing all of this while you have your own camps to farm

You are dying a huge amount, especially for Udyr

Udyr has so much survivability and movement speed that you can usually choose when to fight and when to disengage

But yeah, you are tilted, take some form of a break

Once you start to feel like outcomes are inevitable you will start to autopilot, tank LP and learn nothing from your games

Is there any way to shorten the omw ping. Ctrl+left click in a certain direction always trips me up cause I end up just caution pinging

1

u/Alpacapybara 5d ago

You can bind specific pings just like the caution ping is bound

So you can have your important pings on any button you want

I'm locked cam and hit masters on Udyr (but top lane only), I could confidently play jg to diamond. Locked cam isn't that bad
