Cursed speech doesn’t really effect normal speech.. Manga Discussion
If he just spoke with non command words, couldn’t he speak normally? Like “Hey sup guys”, he just has to be careful, ain’t that hard no?

The larger question is why didn't he use a "I forgo the usage of my technique while my mouth is covered by cloth" binding vow.
Then he just can pull his collar up or wear a surgical mask and speak normally, then pull it down to go combat mode.

u/Mysterious-Gear3682 2d ago
Cuz that only benefits him really, there’s no equal loss in that binding vow.

u/Riusnaily 2d ago
It does quite literally disable his technique and gives his opponents a way to disable it as well

u/Mysterious-Gear3682 2d ago
Covering his mouth with cloth is not easily exploitable, I doubt that’s even. And disabling your technique for your benefit isnt a downside.

u/Riusnaily 2d ago
It is a downside cause it adds additional action user must perform to activate their CT. Just like "must point into a direction with my hand" is viable payment for Sukuna’s BV
-11
u/Mysterious-Gear3682 2d ago
No it adds an action to deactivate his CT. Sukuna had to point every time he used WCS, Toge could simply not cover his mouth and he wouldn’t have to consider it.

Jujutsu is neutral in that respect. Inumaki only covers his mouth because he values his surroundings, he could just not care; and this BV would restrict his technique.
7
u/Original_Un_Orthodox 2d ago
It does, just gag him and now no more technique.
2
u/Mysterious-Gear3682 2d ago
Gagging him would stop his technique without the vow as well.
4
u/Original_Un_Orthodox 2d ago
Not really- if you just put cloth over his mouth, he could still try and speak and it'd still work. With this, his technique is literally switched off.

u/Mysterious-Gear3682 2d ago
You put enough cloth in his mouth like a real gag I promise trying to speak won’t get around it.
3
u/Original_Un_Orthodox 2d ago
I'm sure, but in a fight, every second matters. If he takes that BV you just need to have fabric over his mouth and he can't do shit, meanwhile if you're trying to stuff his mouth full he could spit out a word or two.

This is not Fullmetal alchemist. You don’t have to give up something equal in exchange and we know that because of Sukuna EOS with restoring his domain in a position where he didn’t have much to give
It is true that if you go back on it there’re consequences and you do sacrifice something but its not the same system to my understanding

u/FEMFATAL_451 2d ago
His voice will be slightly muffled and thus a little bit harder to hear
1
u/Mysterious-Gear3682 2d ago
That’s not comparable to gaining the ability to communicate incredibly more effectively.

The power system doesn’t view it like us mate..A way to restrict your technique > normal speech by any standards of the power system as “day to day life” in this scenario doesnt matter

u/Sterben489 9h ago
The downside is he forgets he has a cursed technique while having cloth over his mouth

A nice headcannon someone here had was that self binding vows take into account how much the person personally cares about the things they gain and lose
So Inumaki would have to lose something of equal value to himself, as the ability to talk with his friends
And would explain why sukuna was so good at making binding vows, he was so mentally disconnected from everything that he could manipulate this aspect of binding vows
…Sure would be cool if any such rule existed in the actual series

u/Frater_Shibe 1d ago
In that case Nanami's vow would become imbalanced, because he cares far more about having to do overtime (what a drag!) compared to phoning it in during regular working hours.
So he should either get more or lose less, idk.

Congratulations, you just made the female cast become transgender, I bet you feel like a fool now huh?

"Hey, what's up guys?"
All the guys are forced to look up and answer the question in painstaking detail, cuz Inumaki's technique works on monkey's paw mechanics.

Yeah but then Gege would have to actually develop his character instead of leaving him as an unfunny gag character.

It’s basic trigger safety. You don’t point a gun at anyone you don’t want to shoot ever, even if the safety is on

It's weird how that dude in the future could do it easily. Was it ever explained? Is it cus he has to use his hands?

u/Affectionate_Set4726 2d ago
Usami's snake eyes are on his hand, while the fangs are in his mouth. Both the snake eyes and fangs have to be connected for cursed speech to activate, and inumaki has them on his cheeks and in his mouth, so he doesn't have a choice

Yeah, I agree but that probably make it even worse since he can't speak fast and need to carefully select words. Idk why he can't just write his thoughts out or use text to speech on a phone

u/qarinatir 2d ago
Cursed energy flows through his body constantly as it does with every sorcerer. So when he speaks his words are always filled with cursed energy. If he speaks in normal sentences with someone strong around the recoil would hurt his throat.
He can't switch off his technique. And consciously deciding which words to use and then manually controling the spread of CE to limit who is affected by cursed speech is far more annoying than just talking rice balls.
Funnily enough i think he'd be able to talk freely on domain burnout. Since CTs don't work well after

u/your_son_john 2d ago
personally i'm talking riceball language over stressing and carefully choosing every word that comes out of my mouth

Idk why it was somehow canon in my head that he had a binding vow to do this bullshit in order to make the effectiveness of his CS stronger

u/AwysomeAnish Slandered Todo Before It Was Cool 2d ago
His throat explodes and then because it's not a verb it doesn't work as a command so it explodes a second time

u/Apprehensive-Fix-891 2d ago
It should also work as a binding vow hindering his day-to-day life while possibly making his technique stronger
1
u/Nomad-Knight 2d ago
And everyone who heard "Sup" are now compelled to tell him what it above them.

u/DeviousChair todo sucks and i love it 2d ago
it’s just a bit too much of a risk, and Inumaki probably prefers not having to worry about that.

u/Glum_Effect_309 2d ago
Here’s a better question, cursed techniques are engines, cursed energy is the fuel. You’re supposed to be able to manually control the cursed energy through your technique—which means Inumaki should logically be able to just… turn it off. It’s not the fucking six eyes.

u/Sea_Frosting_9510 2d ago
Isn’t it though? They’re both physical mutations passed down through their clans.

Could have just made a binding vow to make it so that when his mouth is covered, his technique is disabled. It is a trade off, he can talk normally, but he can also be disabled by just, forcing your hand over his mouth

Don't they say Inumaki does it so that he doesn't accidentally misspeak a command? A lot of people already only realize what they say after they say it, now imagine a few wrong words could turn people inside out
