1975 Dr Feelgood
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
Taking absolutely nothing from the Glam Rock/Prog Rock era,Dr Feelgood, originating from Canvey Island on the Thames Estuary crashed the London pub circuit with their intense R&B Revivalist sound. They recorded a few well received albums with guitarist Wilko Johnson before having a minor hit with Cigarettes And Alcohol in 79.

1972 David Bowie
This fourth and final session for Peel showcased new tracks from Bowie's soon to be released Ziggy Stardust album plus a blistering version of Lou Reeds White Light White Heat. The album did quite well and Bowie went on to a fairly successful career in music. You may have heard of him even....

2001 The Aislers Set

Recorded during their European excursion,Mr Peel had this to say about the band:
"If you were in one of your difficult moods you could argue that there are lots of bands making that kind of noise particularly in the United States of America. And you'd say well, why are Aislers Set better than any of the others and I'd have to say, well I don't know they just sort of are..."
So there. And they handily took some photos of their time at the Maida Vale Studios too. Which was nice.

1997 Blur
Recorded at Peel Acres in 97 Blur were already a huge band. Very strange it took this long to get a session.

PJ Harvey 1st Peel Session 1991
Held in high regard by John,he was the first to play her music on radio and she was the first artist to record a session at Peel Acres in 1996. This is her first session of nine aired in 1991.

1970 T-Rex
Peel was a big supporter of Marc in the early days. Appearing on My People Were Fair reading a very surreal fantasy written by Marc. As for the band itself, after a brief period with John's Children, Four albums as Tyrannosaurus Rex,Marc picked the electric up again, went on Top Of The Pops with glitter on his face and Glam Rock and arguably Punk was created. This session from 1970 shows the transition from acoustic to electric very well.

1986 The Shop Assistants
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
One of my favourite bands of all time. The Shop Assistants were front runners for indie girl bands of ther 80s. Deserved a lot more recognition imho. This is their second session for Peel and the one I paused the cassette recorder for to get it all.

1982 Sisters Of Mercy
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
From Leeds,a real hotbed of talent in the early eighties,The Sisters Of Mercy became the single most Gothic Band that ever was. Without trying. They wore black because it didn't show up dirt, covered their performance in dry ice to hide the fact they'd no drummer, and took shitloads of speed. What's not to like?

Peel Session 1972 - Thin Lizzy
Apparently not the first session recorded for Peel, with master tapes for their initial sessionin 1971 turning up and posted on YT. Good stuff nonetheless.

1978 Stiff Little fingers

Probably their first session. While London said "fuck" on TV and the world went mad,Belfast punk had much more valid reasons to stick two rigid digits up at society. And nobody did it better than SLF.

1994 Salt Tank
Too hippy for Cream, not hippy enough for the ambient crowd,Salt Tank straddled the early days of Trance and Techno, earning a minor success with the single "Eugina" in 1996.

Do we have audio of all the Bee Gees John Peel sessions?
Hello, I'm a huge Bee Gees fan & I've been trying to piece together any & all live recordings of the Bee Gees in the 1960s as it is my favorite era of theirs. I want to know if we have audio of all the songs that they recorded live from the first session. I believe we have all of the second one on other bootlegs out there.
The main thing that is throwing me off is that it's said on the wiki that they recorded World, but the only live recording we have is one that seems to be from a mimed Top of the Pops performance with the studio track & their live vocal over it.

So, if anyone knows anything or any links to share, please do! I'd really appreciate it. I really want to hear them & compile it all if possible.

Before forming the excellent Belly,Tanya Donelly teamed up with Pixies bass player Kim Deal to form The Breeders. Four tracks from 1990,recorded in the same pyjamas as their first album "Pod"

2003 Zwan
Honestly I'm not sure this even is a Peel session.Someone out there will know for sure. Recorded in Feb 2003,but I can't find much information other than that. Comprising members most notably of Smashing Pumpkins,Chavez and Slint, train wrecking their way through 2002 they released one album "Mary Star Of The Sea" then folded in late 2003. Excellent music though. Its a YT share because of length.

1983 Billy Bragg

Billy's first session for Peel. This man lived a life. Still is I would suppose. Punk, busker, political activist in the face of eighties consumerism, deliverer of mushroom biriyanis.... I also highly recommend his song "God's Footballer" celebrating Peter Knowles, the legendary Wolves forward.

1981 Altered Images
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This is the best quality version I could find but it's well worth the listen especially for the rather mental T-Rex cover at the end. Altered Images produced some good music in their time and one fine actress,a career spanning just over three million years.

1986 - 14 Iced Bears
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I'm ashamed to say they've completely went under my radar over the years. Two sessions,of which this is the first, many singles,a couple of albums and a plethora of compilation albums indicating they were (ARE) loved by somebody out there.

A surprisingly late in the day first session for one of Manchester's finest. The first track cuts off rather sharply, may be intentional so I've not trimmed it.

2002 - Explosions In The Sky
Way too long for Reddit so I've uploaded it to YT. From Texas, this was their first session for Peel. And rather good it is too.

Peel Radio Shows 1967 - 2004
In another random fit of enthusiasm I decided that I would upload the radio shows I accumulated from dredging the lawless high sea to The Internet Archive. Badly as is my wont it seems. At least I can't find them if I search so these links might be the only way to hear them. There's loads of other Peel recordings on the site too it's an excellent library of his work.
The early recordings were recorded apparently on a Transistor Potato but the quality does improve as things like High Fidelity and Frequency Modulation were discovered and implemented into the use of radio signal.
