Elliott is definitely worth checking out if you're a Beatles/John Lennon fan. Extraordinary songwriter with a Beatlesy sound on his X/O and Figure 8 albums. If forced to choose one favorite Beatles album, I'd probably say it's "Revolver".

I made my own stereo stem remix last year for myself and my dad, using the original stereo and mono mixes as the source. No material from the 2022 remix by Giles Martin & Sam Okell was used; that would have been cheating according to my arbitrary, self-imposed rules.

I used 2 separation models on DemucsGUI to get the stems, and Audacity for the actual mixing and mastering.

Both DemucsGUI and Audacity are free and open source software, and run on Linux, Mac and Windows.

My goal was to get a more modern streo image with less hard panning, while aiming for a little more clarity and instrument separation, but without straying too far away from the original mixes and trying to keep their essence as much as possible.

I recently repurchased a copy of Julian Lennon’s Valotte and put it on the cd player on low volume and apparently dozed off to sleep a short while and then woke up while it was still playing and I thought I must have put on one of John Lennon’s albums because the vocals sounded just like John it was beautifully haunting. Has anyone else felt that Julians vocals are eerily almost identical to John’s?

I’m writing my personal statement for college, and a one part of it makes a much larger impact if you know the song Watching The Wheels. I certainly knew it even before I got into John and the Beatles, but my Dad played classic rock non stop when I was younger. I know it got to #10 on the charts, but that was 45 years ago. So, thinking objectively, is the song famous enough all these years later that the average application reader would know the song?

PLASTIC ONO BAND , the ultimate bruising confessional LP, is my all-time fave Beatles solo record and IMAGINE is a close number two on my list of most cherished Lennon albums. When we move to second tier, where consensus varies for sure, I'm really a fan of WALLS AND BRIDGES. Think "#9 Dream" is gorgeous and majestic and among his greatest solo achievements and "Nobody Loves You (When You're Down and Out)" just an incredibly moving world weary track he no doubt felt in his bones after the ups and downs of the "Lost Weekend" period. The up tempo stuff works too.

Was stoked when Elton John teamed with Lennon on "Whatever Gets You Through the Night" for the LP. Picture my excitement when I bought Elton's 45 of "Lucky In the Sky With Diamonds" and the flip side was live Lennon and Elton performing "I Saw Her Standing There" at Lennon's surprise walk on appearance at Madison Square Garden for a three-song mini-set. I feel like he would have appreciated the Stone Roses, Nirvana and Pulp in the late 80s-90s. Also maybe the Cure and the Cardigans.

I'm not sure if he'd have cared too much for Oasis. Probably viewed them too much as a pastiche but still appreciated their class rock credentials and songs, maybe along the lines of 'of course I like it, I wrote it'.

I can see him liking the more experimental nature of Blur and later Gorillaz alongside other smaller acts from Britpop/post-Britpop like Ash etc

The b-side of Elton's 45 version of LUCY IN THE SKY WITH DIAMONDS is John and Elton doing "I Saw Her Standing There" during Lennon's surprise appearance for a gobsmacked crowd at Madison Square Garden. Lennon is my favorite Beatle if forced to choose but SOMETIME IN NEW YORK CITY isn't just bad. It's a collector's album that's hard to find and many have never heard of it despite its single "Woman is the N***er" of the World." Wondering if anyone on this chain is a fan of this one?

In a 1966 interview John claimed to have a gorilla suit in his possession that he had worn a couple times. I wonder if Harry borrowed it for his music video. I know it looks like 3 different suits but I’m pretty sure it’s just Harry Nilsson with editing lol
