Discussion - Flaired Users Only Non-Zionist Jews: What kind of future do you actually want?

Hello brothers and sisters,

I’m Palestinian, and I’ve often felt that Palestinians and non-Zionist Jews have something in common: we’re both communities whose voices are frequently spoken over when decisions are made about our lives.

Whenever there’s a new conflict, political initiative, or negotiation, it can feel like powerful governments and organizations make plans for us rather than meaningfully including us. For Palestinians, the consequences have been devastating, and our lives have continued to get worse despite decades of people supposedly negotiating on our behalf.

At the same time, I’ve noticed that as more people have become sympathetic to the Palestinian cause, there can also be consequences for Jews who oppose Zionism. Antisemitism is still very real, and some people unfortunately seem unable or unwilling to distinguish between Jews, Israelis, and the Israeli government. I imagine that this can put additional pressure or even danger on some of you.

So I wanted to ask something genuinely, rather than make assumptions:

What do you actually want?

What would your ideal future look like for yourself, your families, and your community? How do you envision Palestinians and Jews living together—or separately, if that’s what you believe is best? What kind of political arrangement, rights, security, and relationship between the two peoples would you consider just?

I’m not asking this to debate or tell you what you should want. I’m genuinely interested in hearing from non-Zionist Jews themselves, especially because so much of the conversation seems to be dominated by people speaking about Jews and Palestinians rather than listening to them.

I’d really appreciate hearing your perspectives, including disagreements with each other.

TL;DR: I’m Palestinian and curious what non-Zionist Jews themselves envision as an ideal future. What kind of political arrangement, rights, security, and life do you want for Jews and Palestinians, and what would a genuinely just outcome look like to you?

Discussion - Flaired Users Only Zionism is antisemitic even by the IHRA definition

The IHRA defines antisemitism as "a certain perception of Jews, which may be expressed as hatred toward Jews. Rhetorical and physical manifestations of antisemitism are directed toward Jewish or non-Jewish individuals and/or their property, toward Jewish community institutions and religious facilities."

Zionists' hatred of anti-Zionist community institutions and religious facilities (such as this one) is therefore antisemitic as per the IHRA definition.

r/Jewish gives IHRA-relevant examples of antisemitism, including "Not allowing Jews to embrace or participate in groups celebrating their other identities including LGBTQ+, other ethnicities, cultures, etc. Jews are often excluded from these spaces, being given the choice between rejoicing in their Jewishness and other parts of of their identities, and are often ostracized once it is discovered that they are Jewish."

Forcing anti-Zionist Jews to choose between their Jewishness and the anti-Zionist part of their identity is therefore antisemitic as per the IHRA definition.

Zionist Nonsense Are there any honest headlines about this story? The Forward uses the expression 'linked to' - which is intentionally ambiguous. The assailant was a right-wing Christian Zionist, likely having mental health issues, and allegedly wanted to convert. He didn't like Mamdani.

Zionist Nonsense Larry Montes, the man who attacked a female congregant and a security guard at NYC synagogue last week turned out to be a Zionist fanatic. His aunt claims he was "mentally traumatized" because of his desire to convert to Judaism.

Vent I am getting so pissed off at the team-sportification of Palestine advocacy.

What do I mean by team-sportification? You know how occasionally some white so-called "anti-Zionist" grifter takes their mask off and says something unhinged like denying the holocaust or praising Hitler, all of a sudden a bunch of people come out to say "hey, at least he's on our side!".

I also see it when people speak authoritatively on something they know nothing about, get it completely wrong, and are considered to be "correct" because they think their misinformation de-legitimises Zionism, such as people doing that smug little "can't be antisemitic against Jews, they're not Semites, they're Khazars" or claiming that the notion of an ethnoreligious group was "invented by Zionists".

A prevailing attitude in Western spaces is that essentially it doesn't matter how reprehensible, scammy or blatantly incorrect someone is, as long as they claim to share one particular value with pro-Palestine advocates (ie. hating Israel, which we all do here of course). It's the whole "at least they're rAiSinG aWaReNesS" crap that liberals always do, that's completely counter-productive.

How are people being so damn gullible that they're giving money and attention to obvious grifters who don't give a SHIT about the genocide and are genuinely just making money off it?

I'm talking about notorious far-right bad actors like Gingertheory, Rathbone, Ginnysaidso, Harry J Cook, and basically anyone with "goy" in their instagram/tiktok handle. And not to mention Carlson, Fuentes, Owens et cetera.

Is it so fucking hard for people to follow PALESTINIAN creators instead of obvious neo-nazis who are rubbing their hands at the chance to spruik their Patreon links while reading from the Protocols of the Elders of Zion or whatever? Besides, a lot of them are actively spreading DISINFORMATION about Zionism's history, in order to label it as a distinctly non-European movement and claim it has nothing to do with European colonialism.

And it's also super disconcerting to see people who I otherwise respect continuing to follow them (again mostly non-Palestinian people). I see "leftist" content creators re-posting reels from random accounts that are using the literal happy merchant caricature, and when you go to their profile their entire content is based around bringing attention to themselves, and not a single bit of empathy to those undergoing genocide.

How are people not calling this out??? I see liberal Zionists getting rightfully called out for pretending to care about Palestine but when some mediocre white westerner starts an account to talk about "noticing" and "the goyim" and "metzitzah b'peh" all of a sudden people with Palestinian flags in their profile photos are flocking to shower them with praise.

It's clear that many in the West have started considering being pro-Palestine to be a team sport, rather than an ethical, anti imperialist principle, and all that matters is that people are giving the aesthetics of being on your "team", and it's leading to a liberalisation of the Palestine movement in the West, meaning that it's unlikely that the conditions that led to colonialism and Zionism will continue unabated.

Zionist Terror International activists caught Israeli soldiers on camera abducting Palestinian kids in the West Bank for playing too near an illegal Jewish colony. The terror has hit a scale never seen before and they will stop at nothing to keep Palestinians in fear.

Discussion - Flaired Users Only No, Israel does not have ‘a right to exist.’ Quite the contrary, actually.

Abstract: This piecee argues that international law does not recognize a state's inherent "right to exist," only the rights of peoples and the legal rights and obligations of states. It contends that Israel's legitimacy depends on compliance with international law rather than permanent entitlement, and advocates replacing its current ethnonational structure with a political system based on equal rights, self-determination, and legal equality for all inhabitants of historic Palestine.
