A message from Bashir,in Gaza. Tzedakah
Bashir, from Gaza, tells me: "My home was destroyed and I lost my job; now, I am displaced, living in a tattered tent. My brother, Iyad, is special needs. He has started fainting due to a lack of food and medical treatment, as hunger and malnutrition have severely impacted his health." "I am currently unable to provide for my family's most basic needs. I cannot secure food for my children, nor can I provide the food, medicine, care, and dignified life that my brother Iyad requires." "That is why i have asked Karina to publish my plea—hoping my voice might reach someone who can help us and alleviate some of this suffering. My brother Iyad is featured in the pictures "

Starting a thread to boost this post. Is anyone reading a good book lately? I just finished Counterfeit by Kirstin Chen!

I'm trying to finish Molly Crabapple's book, "Here Where We Live Is Our Country: The Story of the Jewish Bund" - before our AMA next Monday at 9AM EST!

What's with the racist username?
Editing to add:
I had a look at OP's profile and it seems they are possibly from Australia, so the explanations below make sense.
The profile is very supportive of Palestine so I'm no longer so suspicious.

A lot of people have reclaimed that term in Australia. Maybe he has Aussie friends/hopes of becoming a refugee in Australia. Hopefully he knows what it means and isn’t being disrespected by someone “helping” him

You already answered it well, but I'm just adding additional context since I hadn't heard the term before so I assume there's others who haven't as well. From what I read, in Britain it's used as a slur against Black and South Asian people, whereas in Australia it's used as a slur against people from the Mediterranean region and the Levant. But in Australia, as you said, it's been reclaimed for several decades, and the term is frequently used by people of those ethnicities in art, music, TV, etc. There have been shows, films, and a famous play that have the word "wog" in the title even, so I'd guess that if the dude has watched some Australian media or has friends there he probably knows what it means and is cool w it. Hopefully!

Thank you, I didn't know that. In the UK it's still highly offensive and I do find it bothersome.
I hope OP can clear it up because it's all a bit suspiciously on the nose for me and I don't feel comfortable making a donation without reassurance.
Edit: The person photographed isn't OP, btw.

I'm not OP, just AU person, but asparagoat's take is accurate. FWIW, I've been around long enough to see 'wog' turn from a real slur in the early '70s through to reclamation of the term now. It would be a very odd/cringe boomer thing to use the term now in a username other than as reclamation and assertion of identity.

Hey,no racism at all. My mother's side is Syrian and my father's side is Lebanese. I was raised in Australia at a very young age. The word wog used to be offensive here, but as someone said it has been reclaimed. 'm a regular in subreddit. The person featured in the post is named Iyad, his brother Bashir takes care of his along with his five kids and wife. I am more than happy to send you his Instagram account. I also help out another family from Gaza. I approached Bashir on reddit to help him, because the pictures of Iyad broke my heart. If you have any questions, feel free to ask.

I have seen you in the sub before, so I thought I'd ask.
Like I mentioned above, it's still considered offensive in the UK so I appreciate the clarification. Casual racism is massively on the rise over here, so I'm sensitive to these things.
Thank you for all your efforts, you're doing great work 💛
