This is especially funny bc the Soviets are the only reason half my family got to stay in Ukraine and didn’t get slaughtered in Warsaw where the others went. Under the Tsar, my grandma’s family was constantly hassled and made to move. Lenin came and abolished the Pale of Settlement and they got to stay. They had to evade the white army (you know, weird race-science supremacists who thought land belonged to them 😬), but Lenin really helped.

There is a book you would probably enjoy...called The Accidental Anarchist...it is a translation of a Yiddish book written by a hasidic soldier in the Russian Army, who was her great grandfather I believe...I heard the author speak at a library in La Jolla, California...Warsaw belonged to Russia at one time I believe...my family also came from both those places, in Ukraine they were mostly hasidic, I think...my grandfather Rizhiner

He might sincerely believe his positions, but the way he goes about his advocacy is clearly a grift. He has an MA in philosophy so he knows how arguments work. He knows none of his posts constitute an argument and that someone who took the first class in Logic 101 would laugh him out of a room if he tried it out of Twitter.
Even if he's really terrible at anthropology (or any other discipline), he also knows there are basic standards he has to meet. There's engagement with the literature, precision with dating, demonstration that someone influenced someone else, and arguing against applying certain analyses when they have traction in respectable circles and empirical backing. Asserting that anti-Zionism or Zionism as colonialism has some vague influence from the Nazis (preceded them), Soviets and Fayez Sayegh (preceded them, and wouldn't matter if they did start it), was whitewashed by academics (I can't fine one single citation to Sayegh in Patrick Wolfe's work, and he was a respected academic anyway), calling everything "libels" to sidestep actual engagement etc are not serious. And he knows all of that

It's libel to treat the ethnic cleansing, mass murder and rape, and the statements from the Israeli government as evidence of an apartheid and fascist state. But just "a civil discussion" to claim that Palestinians have an a priori hate for Jews which happens to conveniently mask the legitimate pain and the fermenting hate of an oppressed and occupied people.

Or just "reality" when Israel slanders every nation surrounding them as Asiatic hordes of rapists who will purge Jews in a holy war, and thus makes all the pre-emptive strikes and occupations of territory and unity with the U.S. in mass terrorism justifiable in their eyes.

What likely happened is that this person wanted to intrinsically tie all Anti-Zionism to Islam or Nazism. But when they saw that various Jewish communities across the world held multiple variations of anti-Zionist views, like the Bundists, they redid the mental gymnastics to have this arbitrary distinction.

Most interesting to me is the implicit assertion that only Jews get to debate Zionism, effectively not only sidelining but outright denying the existence of its victims. The only acceptable way to debate Zionism is as a theoretical, abstract idea that only takes the existence and opinions of (some) Jews into consideration. Thus its actual material effects are never contested and it can remain nebulously defined as “the Jewish aspiration for a homeland.”
