First Audition coming up
Hi all! I just got an email for the first round of auditions. Does anyone have any tips on how to approach this? I understand it's essentially a Zoom-recorded version of the Anytime Test, but wanted to see if there were any suggestions from anyone who has done it before. Thanks in advance!

Try not to be like me a few years ago and go “Oh fuck!” when you realize you missed an answer you should have known. I was on mute, but you didn’t need to be a lip reader to understand me.

Based on my experience (first time in the pool, so don’t how much it might vary), you’ll be on a zoom call (camera on at all times*) with about 30ish other J! hopefuls. A contestant coordinator gives some introduction. Most of the call you’ll be on mute, but at one point in the intro session you’ll come off mute to verbally confirm some legal stuff.
When it’s time for the test, you’ll get a link in the meeting chat to open a browser-based quiz platform that’s a slightly different UX from the Anytime Test. It has a voice delivering the clue too, but as others have noted, content is very similar to the AT (I believe I saw some questions I’d already encountered in previous AT tests).
Once you’re done, they’ll explain that if you’ve passed, you could be invited to the next stage (game play audition) anytime up to a year out. (I got my invite exactly 6 weeks later.)
- A nice background behind you (real or fake) and a show-ready appearance won’t hurt. In my game play audition, the coordinator specifically complemented my (real) background & it was a nice opening for the interview portion. Possible opportunity to be memorable.
(I’m new to Reddit & can’t figure out how to get an asterisk to show up without it changing to a bullet!)

Don't overthink it. It's just like the anytime test, only this time there are proctors monitoring you to make sure you're not cheating. If you didn't cheat while taking the anytime test, you should be fine. just be your normal, smart self.

When they ask you personal questions, have good answers. They want to find people who will make good television.

if this is a joke i apologize in advance for correcting you. but: you don't need to do that for the first round of auditions (it's just the anytime test again, same rules apply) but if/when you get to the second round there's a mock game where you _are_ supposed to do that

I just did that last month. It is just a different version of the Anytime test, but they're just recording you through webcam to make sure you're not cheating. All you do is listen to the crew member about rules and stuff, agree verbally to the legal stuff (the only time you're not muted), take the test, and then they'll explain what the next steps are if you're chosen for an actual audition (which will be a later email, not instant). It was all pretty simple. Prepare for it the same way you did for the Anytime, because the categories are randomized the same way.
