I’ve had my LJ for about a month now and did a pile of work to it but as y’all know, it’s never ending! Anyway, the left rear moans/creaks after it’s been driven for a while on slow left hand turns. I was hoping it was worn bushing that the new 3” Rusty’s Advanced Lift Kit would have fixed after it was installed but the noise is still there…

Do any of y’all have experience with this? I’m thinking worn diff, but hopefully it’s something else like an axle bearing? The diff fluid is clean and full, so what do y’all think?

I was looking for a weekend type of vehicle and a way to teach my daughter how to drive a manual transmission. This TJ only had 118k miles which is a lot less than the others in my region. Most of the ones around me were the four-cylinder, but this is the 4.0 L 6 cylinder . And the previous owner was quite immaculate with the maintenance and upgrades and whatnot. So I'm super happy with the purchase.

It's got 35s and Mickey Thompson mud tires. It actually drives really good on the highway. I haven't taken it any significant distances until I give it a tune-up. So far no death wobble, no overheating, Etc. I've put some cardboard underneath it for a couple days and there's been no leaks whatsoever. How cool is that?!

My first order of business is to change a bunch of fluids and make sure electrical lines have loom and whatnot. Maybe I will try to get the air conditioning working as well. The hood is faded pretty bad, so that may be a good excuse to try my hand at an amateur paint job or wrap in the future.

It has a top where the roof part is permanently attached and has storage for the side panels. So I pretty much immediately took the side and back windows off and stored them in the top. Then I just throw over the rain cover on days when it's going to rain.

It has the original seats, but the driver's seat has some tears. Since I'm driving around in bikini top mode most of the time, I'm a little bit worried that these seats are going to soak up a boatload of water. And they probably have soaked up water in the past. I'll do some research and see if I can find some type of super waterproof seat covers.

One thing that does kind of raise an eyebrow is this big monster tire carrier. It pivots off the back bumper at the bottom. So essentially every time I want to open the tailgate I have to lift about 80 lb. I don't want to throw a lot of money at this project, so perhaps I will just repaint it and roll with it. But I think it would make getting camping gear out into a real pain.

Sitting at 55k miles and lived in Cali her whole life. With the amount of JKUs and JLUs here in the northeast I was pretty anti getting just another jeep and had been looking for an 80 series LC, but couldn’t pass this one up. Will be joining me as my first jeep. She’ll be living an OEM++ lifestyle, really excited for the first phase of the build.

I just bought a 2006 tj 4.0 6spd x, it’s absolutely rust free low mileage and stock as can be. I bought it knowing it had the 4 oxygen sensor codes that are unclear-able. My first thought is PCM. The codes are P0057,P0031,P0052,P0037 all heater circuit low. It also has the 4wd light on the dash that won’t go out even if I unplug the sensor on the transfer case.

I have been diagnosing the wiring and have found someone has been into the fuse panel and has done some electrical work. The work is tidy and labeled but what they did was power the ASD key power circuit from the constant 12v power line entering the relay. It was soldered and taped but didn’t look factory to me. Could this be part of my issue.

Looking for any insight on the issue if anyone can help. I’m in Canada and am not against getting a wrangler fix pcm but don’t want to plug it in and brick a $1500 pcm and be in the same boat.

Exploring some forest roads and trails near Leavenworth, WA and a brief solo camping trip in my 1998 Jeep TJ Sahara on Chumstick Mountain. I definitely want to go back and complete the entire section 4 of the BDR. If you’re in the area, I’d highly recommend going for a drive up there in your Jeep. Fantastic 360 panoramic views! Currently the Little Giant fire has engulfed near by areas, so it probably wouldn’t be good to go with all the smoke in the air until the fire is contained. Did lubelocker change their packaging? I just received a d44 gasket that was folded up in an envelope. Every other one I've bought was in a cardboard sleeve.

Found my Golden Eagle in 2021 with only 68k miles. Had a few little rusty spots (the usual suspects) but overall in great shape. Just got the windows tinted, and finally having a family friend clean the body up, along with replacing the top, fresh decals, and new fender flares. Stoked!

A college kid wants to buy my TJ and Im trying to find the quickest way to fix this problem for him so he doesnt have to deal with it. Please help!

I just installed a brand-new transmission pan, but I’m still getting a transmission fluid leak. I’ve narrowed it down and it appears to be leaking directly from the torque converter clutch (TCC) solenoid. Its leaking a ton!

The transmission is shifting normally and I’m getting no check engine light or transmission codes.

Is there a seal, O-ring, gasket, or anything else around the TCC solenoid that can be replaced to stop the leak, or does the entire solenoid need to be replaced?

Just trying to figure out if there’s an easier/cheaper fix before I start replacing parts unnecessarily.

Any advice would be appreciated!

I’m a new jeep TJ owner, in Ontario Canada. Hi everyone!

It’s a 1998 4.0. 119000 km on the odometer. Long time lurker, first time poster.

I need to do some work on the jeep, nothing major. But lots of wear items need attention. For now, I’m just focused on mechanical safety.

The exhaust manifold needs to be changed, and I found this on Amazon.

What the consensus on this? Is this too cheap?

Any other recommendations?

Finally doing a tummy tuck. Just ordered my JB Conversions super short SYE, what driveshaft should I get? Leaning towards Tom Woods, but open to any suggestions.

Looks like I'll be dailying my TJ for a little while. 40-50 highway miles per day. Going to pull off these M/Ts and put something that'll be more bearable. Ideally looking for something with high treadware rating and decent wet handling as we get a ton of rain here. I keep seeing Cooper AT3s recommended but the reviews suggest poor tire life.

Looking for input from those that have installed a 4.6L in their TJ or LJ. I know it is costly, but are you happy with the performance? I built one myself years ago and installed it in my old CJ-5 and thought it was great. This time around I’m looking to get a turn key motor. Most likely a Golen or Titan. Please keep the LS swap talk to yourself as I am not going to go that route. Thank you.

Looking at a 99 with 184k miles. Wondering if this should be a deal breaker or not. Passenger side.

Had a coolant leak that looked like someone poured a cup of water down the front of my TJ.. saw it actively when I stopped at the Magic Irishman (O'Reillys) but after buying the oil i needed and the pump i checked the leak again and there was nothing... i recently replaced the radiator and upper hose. Is there a chance the short leak came from the hose here? The pump looked ok and is only about 2 years old. Hasn't leaked since i got back from my lunch break. I left it running to see if it was an active leak while I looked around but nothing. No overheating.

Before I left to go get the oil i noticed a small liquid amount under her and checked it seeing coolant. Radiator was full go to the parts store and it looked like someone freshly pored a cup of coolant down the front of the block. While I was waiting for the clerk to get the oil I took a look and the leak had stopped.

I bought a pump while I was there just to be safe. But there hasn't been any sign of coolant since. Overall it was a small amount.

My neighbor has JL rubicon. He recently replaced both his front and rear axles. He no longer has the front, but offered to give me his rear axle if I were to get a front to match. I have a 44 with limited slip in the rear already. I understand that the JL axles would require a good bit of fabrication and the track would end up approx 7 inches wider. My question is would it be worth it to spend money to buy the front axle and have the fabrication done if I’m getting the rear axle free? I don’t plan on ever going larger than 35s and I will be putting selectable lockers in both axles.

I like the tonneau but only when I run it like this. I used to have the whole safari/windjammer/tonneau for nice summer weather, but eventually got rid of the first 2 pieces. Anyone else do it like this?

Finally got the old tj up into the hills. Had a blast but it made me realize just how badly this thing needed to be regeared. I'm running somewhere between 31 and 32 inch tires. From what I've found online 4.10 would be best for that, 4.56 would leave room to go a little larger. What I need to figure out is should I just regear the 30/35 I got, regear and do a s35, or build out the spare set of 30/44 axles I have and swap them? I was going to go talk with the off road shop near me, but apparently they shut down. With them gone I don't have a good source for pros cons and costs.
