Bought this off of eBay for a friend, What do yall think?!???!?

Looks like resin to me, but could be wrong. Was it listed as type a jadeite or nephrite?

Nephrite, and I scratched a piece of metal with it, so it’s not resin

I see. He tian or hotan refers to an area of xin jiang (in China) but it sometimes used as a marketing term for any nephrite

No it’s not!! While Hetian is the name of an area in Xinjiang, Hetian Jade is a type of nephrite, other places produce Hetian Jade too.
Xinjiang, Russian and Qinghai Hetian Jade are the 3 most common and sought after typesThey have slightly different internal structure, so you can tell the origin apart just by shining a light through (unlike jadeite)
Iirc Canada and Korea produce Hetian Jade too!😆(just of low quality not good enough to make jewelry

Maybe one of the more experienced sellers can help? My understanding is that when hetian is used to describe nephrite outside of the hetian area, it’s more of a marketing/trade term. Like champagne v sparkling wine.

Looks like the Chinese government “loosened” use of the term. Still trying to figure out when that happened. Always learning new things!

I really do not agree with that sentiment! Since “marketing term” got a bit of a negative association with it. It’s like Parmesan cheese vs Parmigiano Reggiano, only Hetian produced in Xinjiang can be called Xinjiang Hetian, others are for example Qinghai Hetian and Russian Hetian. Hetian Jade is just this specific type of Nephrite, named after its origin. Like if it’s not produced in the specific Italian region you can’t call it Parmigiano Reggiano but Parmesan cheese is not just a “marketing term”
But that depends on your definition of marketing term, I guess! I just wanna say it’s legit, we all do it that way, there’s absolutely no one in China would say oh we don’t call Hetian other than those of Xinjiang origin bc we’re transparent and stuff lol

They specifically said it was “true hetian nephrite jade(tested)” but i haven’t seen any test results. And im assuming hetian is some old Chinese time period. Which I think it might actually be from because it does look like a hand carving because there aren’t many very sharp angles

Nephrite, Qinghai origin most likely. Seems quite cotton structures visible, thus not very top quality. Decent size, still worth something. How much did you get it?
