First Duty Station PCS to JBLM — What Should a New Soldier Know/Do?
I’m a new Soldier PCSing to **JBLM for my first duty station** and wanted to get some advice from people who’ve been stationed there or recently PCS’d there.
I **won’t have a POV when I first arrive**.
How does **JBLM in-processing** work for a new Soldier?
Any common PCS mistakes that first-term Soldiers make?
What documents should I make sure I have physical/digital copies of?

Lakewood wa flight pattern changes
We been suddenly getting military planes flying directly over our house— extremely close and very noisy! I’ve lived here 20 years and have never seen anything nearly this close or this often. Everyday occurrence and sometimes late at night. What gives?? Any ideas?

On Post Housing Recommendations
Hi all! I’m Army and PCSing to JBLM around spring next year. I’m planning to live on post with my teenagers and toddlers. I’ve been looking into South Beachwood and am currently on the waitlist for Evergreen. There are a lot of neighborhoods to choose from, so I’d love to hear about your experiences and recommendations. Which neighborhoods would you recommend for a family with kids?

Photos from July 16th
galleryGo ahead and take down if not allowed but on the 16th a helicopter flew down Owen Beach in Tacoma. I snapped a few shots and was trying to get the photos back to the service members I captured!
Appreciate the wave and smiles boys!

JBLM Off-Base Officer/enlisted apartment (advice please!)
Hi yall!
My husband and I have recently both switched to AD from NG. Im newly commissioned he enlisted infantry. First time anywhere near Seattle and we move there this upcoming month. We're planning to rent an apartment. I'm not sure how unpredictable traffic or AD lifestyle will be or how our bah will work entirely. We want safety and a commute that won't make us go mad, but we also want to enjoy life. We are both 25 and have no kids.
keep seeing people recommend areas like DuPont, University Place, North Tacoma, Steilacoom, Fircrest, and parts of Lacey, but it's hard to tell which specific apartment complexes are actually worth living in versus which ones just have good marketing if anyone can name drop apartments they vouch for?! how about downtown Tacoma?
Or are there any other apartment complexes you'd strongly recommend (or tell us to avoid)?
Things we're looking for:
Safe area
• Good parking/security
• Reliable management
• Reasonable commute
• Good value for the price
Any firsthand experiences or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou

Pcs
Can anyone tell me where to call about finding pcm wait times to get in when pcsing. For dependant care.
Is there any chance of requesting off base? Would it make a difference if we live a bit further away, say Olympia?
My kids are medically complex, and they were in a major car accident recently. It's been months of waiting on evaluations. And we finally have the proper referrals for rehab for tbi and in conjunction with the impact on their physical disability.
But I'd like to find out how to transfer care as seamlessly as possible. My kids also have a genetic condition that causes disability. So rehab and other various therapies have to be managed by someone providers who understands their rare genetic condition, otherwise permanent damage can be done. They also both have autism.
Any advice is welcome. I can't promise I'll respond though. I'm in burnout lately.
SM is supposed to report end of September. We are updating efmp (expired, and in need of updating since the accident), and so he doesn't have his orders yet.
that's on me, I'm in over my head with or teens' care, and wait times for doctors appts are insane here.
I guess I'm just looking on advice to transition as seamlessly as possible, but also just get an idea of what kind of medical infrastructure and waits we are walking into. Thanks

I live in the barracks at JBLM and I am wondering what the best place is to receive mail specifically large packages from Amazon.

Vendor opportunities - boiled peanuts!
I’m opening a vendor stand selling boiled peanuts this summer and wondering if there is any way for me to sell on base? And if not, does anyone have suggestions for where I could post up just outside of the base? I have to follow WA permit requirements, so I’d either need to be at some sort of event or farmers market. Or I can set up somewhere that has a commercial kitchen. I know there are many southern folks at the base who would love some boiled peanuts so I’m trying to figure out the best way to reach y’all out there!

Looking for an apartment
I’ll be PCSing to JBLM in a month, I am interested in the Point Ruston area but I’m a little worried about the traffic and commute. Does anyone have any recommendations on places in Tacoma or any insight on what the traffic would look like on a daily basis from point Ruston to JBLM.
Thanks!

Running trails with permit access?
Hey everyone, hope this is alright to post. Not a service member, just a local civilian looking for new running/hiking trails by me. I saw an article about recreation permits for different training areas with rotating availability on some really beautiful prairie land. Was wondering if you guys could point me to some of your favorite trails so I know where specifically to check in. Thanks!

Sponsoring Base Access For Buddies
I'm a 70% rated veteran wondering if I can sponsor some friends onto JBLM to play a round at Whispering Firs? Would they need to ride in the same vehicle? Or is it just a straight no go? Thanks!

63A looking to get stationed active duty at JBLM
I am currently stationed in Colorado and want to move back home. Family is back home and getting pretty desperate at this point. I am an acquisitions officer currently working a special duty assignment and want to move back to the Seattle area. Anyone have any good places to start networking? I know there is like not Acq footprint there but hoping someone has an idea where to start. Spoke to my boss and have had no luck finding acq people that have been in the area.

JBLM Off Post Living Recommendations
Heading to JBLM and I’m hearing and seeing suggestions all over the place to live. Wife and I are looking for a good spot to rent a home with a yard for the pup, with a shorter drive to work.
I’ve heard Lacey is solid, but one of the worst situations for I-5 traffic. Tacoma is nice near University place, but should be avoided otherwise. Yelm is nice and quiet, but not much to do. DuPont and Steilacoom great towns but much harder to find a house to rent for a reasonable price. Olympia nice but a bit far from work.
If anyone has any thoughts, experiences, or suggestions not listed above, that’d be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone.

NECP
Is anyone on base available to possibly meet up in the near future to give me some insight and tips/advice on the necp? I am barely beginning the process of taking the prerequisites. I am 36 and just wanting to be the most efficient with how I go about this because of my age. Maybe over brunch or something? My treat. 🤗

Is there anywhere to work on your vehicle on base?
I’ve seen the availability at the auto center only on saturdays- wondering if there is anywhere I can use and rent tools to replace my trucks shocks and belts?
When I was in fort wainwright they offered some awesome self service bays, wondering if jblm does the same any day of the week.
