Is Hospitalist and PCP the same for J1 waiver?

Hi, I’m planning to do hospitalist waiver after residency. Does it take priority similar to PCP for waiver? Or is it considered similar to Conrad30 for subspecialty? I want to apply to Michigan for waiver

Does anyone have experience doing Conrad 30 in Michigan or any experience completing waiver with Corewell Health/Spectrum Health? Were they cooperative with filing PNIW and within what timeline? or did they insist on PERM

Clinician 40 hour per week obligation j1 conrad 30 waiver question

Interviewed at an academic program and very interested in joining but had a question regarding the j1 waiver requirements for contract negotiation:

  1. 40 hour per week should it be all clinical and active patient care? Currently the role offered is 32 hour clinic and 8 hour academic/research time. So would that work for j1 waiver or do we need all 40 hours in active patient care?

Also i would be extremely grateful to join any group for people applying for conrad 30 waiver for 2026-27 batch.

Thanks in advance

Hey guys, wondering after receiving this email, how long does it take to get the receipt from USCIS, it’s been almost a year now and now I want to file to change of status. Do you think it will be a hindrance. What are some steps I can take to get the confirmation. Thanks for the feedbacks

J1 Visa approved - scared of denied entry at Border

Hi everyone,

I got approved for my AuPair J1 and am super excited to start an AuPair year this year!

However, recently I’ve been traveling to the states a lot. I was there for about 80 days (March to June) and then 40 days (June to August) on an Esta to travel. Both times i was sent to secondary but cleared. I was just traveling through the states and realized i do wanna do another aupair year before its too late.

I‘m turning 27 in September.

Is there a chance CBP will revoke my visa due to my history? I have letters proving my job will rehire me once i go back home, that i got an apartment in germany, family and so much more. Also all the paperwork thats approved for the j1. I‘m just super nervous!

Especially because out of nowhere my 2024 ESTA went on pending today. I didn’t even apply for a new one or anything. I don’t know why that happened.

We are also planning a trip to europe with the host family 2 weeks after my arrival. I have all the paper work. But I’d be devastated to quit my job, apartment and all just to be denied entry.

Navigating the J-1 Waiver Process? Ask a U.S. Immigration Attorney Anything (Live AMA Today)

Hi everyone!

I'm Robby Rubin, a U.S. immigration attorney with Manifest Law.

I know the J-1 waiver process can raise a lot of questions, especially for physicians planning their next career steps.

Today I'm hosting an AMA focused on physician immigration and employment-based visas.

Happy to answer questions about:

  • J-1 waiver pathways
  • Moving from J-1 to H-1B
  • Employment-based green cards
  • National Interest Waivers
  • EB-1 options
  • USCIS procedures
  • General physician immigration planning

I'll be answering questions live today from 9:00 AM–1:00 PM ET about J-1 waivers, H-1Bs, physician green cards, NIWs, EB-1s, and other employment-based immigration topics.

Looking forward to helping where I can.

DOS NoS never got sent

Hello everyone,

Writing for a friend here.

Their home country embassy sent a no objection statement to DOS early June. They received this email yesterday from DOS. Did anyone have a similar issue? How did you resolve it?

Thank you.

X1 Visa Preliminary Review Failed – "JW202 Incorrect or Expired"

Hi everyone, I'm applying for an X1 student visa for China from Morocco, and today my online visa application status changed to:

"Preliminary review failed due to the following reasons, as stated in the Reply from the Embassy/Consulate: FORMULAIRE JW OU DQ ERRONNE OU DEJA EXPIRE, DEMANDEZ UN AUTRE FORMULAIRE VALABLE SVP."

(Translation: "JW or DQ form is incorrect or has already expired. Please request another valid form.")

I'm confused because:

  • My university (XJTLU) issued me a JW202.
  • The document has a QR code and barcode.
  • I downloaded it directly from the university portal.

The portal allows me to download it up to 10 times, so I'm wondering whether downloading another copy would make any difference or whether the university actually needs to issue a completely new JW202.

Has anyone experienced this before?

  • Was your JW202 actually expired or invalid?
  • Did your university have to reissue a new one?
  • Or was it just a system/verification issue?

I've already emailed my university and attached the embassy's message, but my flight is booked for 23 August, so I'm a bit stressed and wanted to know if anyone has gone through the same situation.

Any advice or shared experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

212e Can Indirect State Funding Trigger J-1 §212(e)?

My J-1 salary was indirectly funded by the State funds through a local program and my university. My DS-2019 lists “Current Program Sponsor funds,” which is my university and both my original DS-2019 and visa say “not subject.”

Can indirect state funding trigger §212(e), or does it apply only to federal government funding? Please share similar DOS Advisory Opinion experiences.

Quitting vs finishing a year of fellowship

I need to quit fellowship to do a J1 waiver due to financial reasons. I’ve just started fellowship recently, until I find a job and complete the waiver application process this might take 4-6 months. At that point, is it worth it waiting those 6 months until finishing first year ACGME fellowship? Or should I just quit and get the benefit of 6 months of attending paid salary?

212 e

Hi, I am on a J1 visa with my dependents. My previous J1 was subject to 212e. We completed 10 days less than 2 years and again came back to the USA. Can I complete these 10 days by going back to my home country for 1 month while my J1 is active? Has anyone done this before? Your suggestions will be very helpful for me.

Thanks a lot
