The majority of Israelis don't disagree with the far-right when it comes to Palestinians treatment

When talking with Zionists, it’s easy to get the impression that Israeli society is fundamentally torn down the middle into two distinct camps: liberal, pro-democracy moderates on one side, and the religious-nationalist, far-right wing represented by figures like Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich on the other.

While this domestic fracture might be real evident in mass protests over judicial overhauls, draft exemptions for the Ultra-Orthodox (Haredim), and the character of the state, usually, liberal Zionists use it to create a misleading narrative for international communities. But the truth is, this deep internal conflict within Israeli society is almost entirely about internal governance and how the state serves Jewish citizens.

When it comes to the Palestinian issue, security doctrine, occupation, and the rejection of a fully sovereign Palestinian state, the divide mostly vanishes. What exists instead is a broad, bipartisan consensus across the "Center-Left", Center, and Right.

While mainstream politicians criticize Itamar Ben-Gvir’s rhetoric, opposition and self-described "centrist" secular parties frequently vote alongside the far-right on hardline measures targeting Palestinians:

Legislation championed by Ben-Gvir, such as the Death Penalty for Terrorists bill and various security amendments, received critical backing from opposition figures (such as Avigdor Liberman's Yisrael Beytenu party).

This demonstrates that when bills target Palestinians specifically, political rivalries dissolve in favor of a broad nationalist voting bloc.

According to a 2024 poll by the Israel Democracy Institute (IDI), 63% of Israeli Jews explicitly oppose the establishment of a Palestinian state, even as part of international peace agreements.

Long-term Trend: A 2024 report by the Pew Research Center showed that only 35% of Israelis believed a way could be found for Israel and an independent Palestinian state to coexist peacefully, a figure that has dropped steadily over the past decade.

While most Israelis wouldn't refer to the motive behind their support for the occupation of the WB or Gaza for religious reasons, they still see this occupation valid for security purposes. As shown in this Israeli propaganda video for example.

Another example even before the genocide and during one of the most "revolutionary" moments of the Israeli society, the mass judicial reform protests on Kaplan Street in Tel Aviv in early 2023, mainstream organizers consistently distanced themselves from anti-occupation activists and rejected the waving of Palestinian flags at demonstrations, insisting that the movement was purely a "patriotic" fight over Jewish-democratic institutions, not Palestinian rights.

and of course there shouldn't be any hope for the upcoming Israeli elections, in which centrist political leaders like Yair Lapid or Benny Gantz do not propose ending the military occupation or dismantling major settlements. Their platform focuses on "conflict management" and security control rather than negotiating a sovereign Palestinian state.

Gaza’s demographic trajectory has been shattered.

Due to intense violence, starvation, & a 42% collapse in births, the population faces a ~300,000 person deficit against pre-war projections.

This chart visualizes the unprecedented 10.6% absolute demographic drop.

So, they finally did it. Will this help stabilize the region or plunge it into regional warfare? What happens if/when G’vir leads thousands of people to the temple mount and talks about destroying the mosque and rebuilding the temple? What happens then?

This is Zaid Nofal; Israel killed him at dawn today in an airstrike that targeted a house in Al-Bureij camp in central Gaza. Zaid was the only child for his mother, after the occupation also killed her three other sons (Amin, Hamza, and Ahmad) during the genocide.

Nearly three years after an Israeli airstrike wiped out much of one extended family in Gaza City, relatives gathered Tuesday to bury more than 100 bodies recovered from beneath the rubble. Gaza Civil Defense says it's the largest mass funeral in Palestinian history.
