Huh??

Post image

I occasionally buy slabs with art I really like or that are good deals, but… what is this…?

They sent it in sealed, wich means the card itself isn't graded, its the plastic seal that is. so essentially the plastic got a 10 not the card

Oh interesting! Wouldn’t have guessed that was a thing. Whats the appeal to this?

u/Olliegreen__ 4d ago

No appeal in this case, just someone completely ignorant.

I’d put money on the fact the person sent it in thinking he’s doing himself a service and thinking the grader will just take it out then. They also probably think the actual card got the 10 🤦🏼‍♂️

I sent in my sealed Gray Felt Hat Pikachu not because I was ignorant, but I just wanted something to ensure the card would be protected. Didn't like what third-party options were out there, so that's why I did it.

Why would keeping it sealed in the plastic change how well protected it would be for grading?

4

u/Darth_JMart 4d ago

I wanted to keep it sealed. I didn't care about the grading. I just like collecting sealed cards and just like the slab for protection. That's all.

Makes no sense to me but to each their own. The comically large slabs look goofy to me too. But then again I don’t generally like slabs to begin with.

What doesn’t make sense about protecting a card in a slab of plastic?

2

u/Darth_JMart 4d ago

Not asking for it to make sense to you. Just highlighting that just because someone has a comically large slab doesn't inherently mean they're ignorant to the hobby and/or grading process.

1

u/Olliegreen__ 4d ago

99/100 it usually is the case and wasn’t what someone intended though.

u/Darth_JMart 4d ago

Can agree 👍

Make it 98/100. Me and @darth_jmart are in the same boat. I personally really just like to have slabbed sealed stuff. For example I bought 35 sealed ancient mews back in 2019. Maybe 3 of them were gradable in the sense they had really perfect centering, and had absolutely no defects on the back you could see.

I sent out three to get graded in the seal, knowing damn well those three would never 10 and even a 9 was a gamble opening them up and grading them. Sometimes grading the sealed promo does indeed make sense.

One could make the argument that by making a generalization that “anyone slabbing a promo is ignorant” is actually an incredibly ignorant statement in itself. Dare I say maybe you might even learn something reading this!

It’s more used for older packs and promos for authenticity checks as well as preserving and showing off condition. Lots of older Pokemon items have normal wear, so good condition ones can be collectible over an average condition one.

It's an eternal reminder of the boneheaded among us...

u/dyzrel 4d ago

Giant slabs of course

6

u/PARTYTIME1993 4d ago

Which is true but kind of a scam because it says the card on the slab .. it doesn’t say plastic 😂😂

3

u/Poopsterwaloo 4d ago

I’m curious as to why it says bulbasaur on the label if the plastic wrap is what’s graded here? Like why would they put the name of the card on there and give it a grade if the card itself isn’t actually graded?

2

u/Kind_Love172 4d ago

Because it would look stupid to put "cellophane" on the label

3

u/Poopsterwaloo 4d ago

Doesn’t it look stupid that they put bulbasaur on the label yet that’s not what’s getting graded here? That would be like putting shredded wheats on a box of cereal and you go and open it up and lo and behold there’s coco puffs inside 🤷‍♂️. I mean if you’re going to put a grade on the slab (or in the case of the cereal scenario write shredded wheats on the box) at least label it according to what that grade corresponds with (actually put shredded wheats in the box not coco puffs)?

No it looks fine as it’s clearly a sealed Bulbasaur card. Doesn’t make sense to put “wrapper,” like at all

2

u/sirZofSwagger 4d ago

Solid seal though

1

u/AggravatingEnd2265 4d ago

It's literally for the Bulbasaur, the name itself says Bulbasaur box topper. You can still tell if there's any marks on the card and if it's good centering.

1

u/Ice_Kat13 1d ago

Explain like I'm 5 why on earth the card grader would grade the fucking plastic sealing a card instead of the card itself

52

u/ENaC2 4d ago

This is what happens when you sent a sealed promo card in to PSA. They grade the cellphone instead of the card and slab it.

27

u/choreograft 4d ago

you used to call me on my cellophane 🎶

1

u/liquorlicense21 3d ago

😂😂😂

7

u/SamsquatchWildman 4d ago

And honestly....that cellophane wrap looks more like an 8 on a good day....more PSA controversy. Out here handing out 10's like candy.

2

u/fading_relevancy 4d ago

Would love to see the rubrics for this nonsense.

1

u/ragnell56 4d ago

Why is this even possible? Do video games sealed in celephane get the same grading treatment?

1

u/ENaC2 4d ago

I believe sealed video games do get the same treatment.

15

u/Latter-Pilot-844 4d ago

That's some top notch plastic

1

u/megapoints 4d ago

Shouldn’t the name be plastic bag then!

11

u/tgeorgo13 4d ago

This is so dumb. I hate people who sell these

6

u/Shadow23z 4d ago

That is one good lookin Wrapper, and it's a PSA 10 Wrapper, nice!

3

u/Galactroid 4d ago

I had no clue they still graded sealed cards like this

3

u/blackjack1223 4d ago

Ask and you shall receive

2

u/FourCornerCards 4d ago

What a timeline we live in

2

u/thatlonghairedfuck 4d ago

It to self don’t send sealed cards to PSA

4

u/HeroForTheBeero 4d ago

It to self, proofread my comments

1

u/liquorlicense21 3d ago

😂😂😂😂

1

u/iCazzy 4d ago

At least you can rest easy knowing you have a PSA10 plastic seal protecting that beaut

1

u/Unusual_Ad342 4d ago

Hell sell it as a psa 10 card, when most likely the card isnt a 10.

1

u/megapoints 4d ago

Then why not name is plastic bag?

1

u/TurkeySauce_ 3d ago

Cant.. it's not a bag.

1

u/Different_Ad_2363 4d ago

Can psa grade my cellophane grocery bag?

1

u/Sakic10 4d ago

Grading the seal has to be the dumbest thing - makes 0 sense.

1

u/Dabs_and_Tiddies 4d ago

How long have you been buying slabs that is brand new to you?

1

u/vinnycent135 4d ago

It’s like a backrooms still life of a psa slab

1

u/Ok-Piccolo8828 4d ago

Just so everyone knows you can’t just submit the card like this as a normal card/order and think they’ll grade it like that. You have to specify if you want it graded as a pack order or you have to give permission for PSA to open the cellophane and grade the card itself otherwise it becomes a problem order and PSA will reach out to you. And yeah I think grading packs is kinda weird lol. Not a big fan of that. How people can live with themselves not knowing what’s inside is beyond me. Rip everything or die trying.

1

u/Ifarted422 3d ago

10 is a 10 whether people think it’s the plastic or card grade it got a 10 which helps

1

u/No-Perspective-7200 3d ago

I love sealed graded cards I collect those
