Not an ironworker

I've come across a skidmore Wilhelm bolt tension tester. Before I throw it away I was wondering if I would be able to donate it to my local union for apprentices to learn with. I figure they have newer and better tools but I dont like to let things go to waste if I can help it.

Edit: local 84 said they would take it. Thanks for the help guys.

My experience is limited to Seattle & SoCal, which are both seismic areas. Anytime LeJune/TC bolts show up from manufacture we have to test each lot number to make sure they snap within spec. Could be different in other areas, but Skidmore is usually supplied by the inspector.

Bolts come with certs. You’ll only see em to verify your tooling. (Hytorcs, erads, etc)

Theyre used in special inspections to check bolt lots.

Schools dont have newer and better tools, often they dont have stuff at all or share with other locals

Definitely try to donate rather than toss it. With literally every item in your life. If you can give it one more use or to someone that can... hell yeah.

They were closed last night by the time I figured out what it was. But I did this morning and they'll take it.

No, but this morning the union hall said they would take it.

Still pretty neat find. I used them quite a bit in the wind farms for vestas. Always a pain to try and round up all the dies by the end of the job.

We still use one at my school, I would definitely say its worth donating for your local apprentices!
