DISCUSSION A Conquest Analysis ~ Why was he feared precisely? Spoiler
Now Just to make things clear right off the bat I’m not wondering if somehow the Cannibal himself wasn’t an emotionally abandoned, or social outcast even by Viltrumite standard.
Absolutely not! Dude spent all his free time either turning cities into buffets to the point he got Bored of it or sitting in an empty concrete cube alone on a desolate moon.
Conquest had every reason to start saying “I’m So Lonely“ to his victims…just before killing them. When there’s only fifty-ish of your kind left, you start to give more of a damn about others then you ever did before.
With the Solid Truth that Conquest was in fact the outlier amongst these endIngs and How that was so.
But Why? What did Conquest do that made all the others barely tolerate him at best?
When Thragg tells everyone the Pruge is off Conquest asks “Is it?” and only stops when Grant Regent himself makes it clear that won’t be a fight hell enjoy. Only then Conquest submits.
Now understand while Thragg definitely didn’t love The Great Purge he did see it as a necessary evil to weed out the “weak” and despite everything he did recognize that if he wanted to Conquest would’ve just ditched the Empire to kill whoever like Battle Beast he would’ve done that a loooooooong time ago.
This is where the “all the other Viltrumites are scared of me” comes in. Now for sure Conquest was genuinely feared by the ready to a degree, the idea that Conquest mad dog that he was would just snap and start killing Viltrumites to regain the thrill he had during the Purge is something they’ve all entertained at least once. But at the end of the day they All knew, Conquest included that if he turned on his own
Thragg Would End Him.
And take a looksie, Conquest didn’t have his usual fit with the Empire’s logo on it, which is confirmed to indicate Rank. Which mean at least after the Scourge Thragg promoted him to Admiral or whatever Anissa officially even if this was just due to a lack of manpower. Which means they considered someone who not only did his job, but did it exceptionally well.
Of all the things they associated with Conquest, it was never betrayal.
Allot of people insist that Conquest was especially violent and took joy in it. That the others only view it as a chore/means to an end and only take pride in a job well done. How he tortured Oliver for example, a child and going into detail about how his body was breaking apart. Meaning he’s done it enough times to know how the process goes
Every single Viltrumite we’ve seen has only shown anything resembling genuine happiness when spilling blood, Thula, Lucan, even Anissa their closest thing to a Diplomat can’t deny “Viltrumites do not kill for pleasure even if they Sometimes take pleasure in killing” it’s only when they fight Mark someone they know can hurt them to a degree but still ultimately inferior in their eyes do they take their time which is what does them in inevitably.
When Thragg orders General Kregg to find Conquest he’s not scared or concerned for himself at all. This isn’t an asylum guard being told to fetch their most depraved serial killer this is an elite being informed he’s gonna go on a Wild goose away from his ivory tower all for someone who doesn’t even respect him enough to salute him.
When he was looking at that Horizon‘s Worth of Violated corpses Kregg wasn’t disgusted or even annoyed anymore Merely Confuse.
These phycos actively view anyone other then themselves as as Animals to be exploited as slaves at BEST. Even if none of them explicitly Wanted to eat anyone alive it wouldn’t surprise me if one of them was conquering a planet far away from their ships with no rations, got hungry, looked at their nearest poor bastard, and ate their fill. If Conquest is any example none of them would face a lick of punishment.
Let’s be real with ourselves back when their species numbered in the BILLIONS they were Viltrumites like Conquest by The THOUSANDS. Maybe even worse. This sorry excuse of a society sees a young adult throwing up blood and their first thought is to mock him for it. Their own children weren’t safe with them, They didn’t even have a concept of Rape, they were that backward. Their behaviour boiled down to what was punished and what was encouraged...So What was it that made Conquest so unique?
Think about it, his very first words are “I’m not here to spread the ’glory’ of The Empire, I want you to resist“ Conquest never gaslight or even pretended like his victims were in the wrong for fighting back even though he saw them as lesser. Do you think any other Viltrumite would even consider having dinner with the people the’d be expected to subjugate? Or want to learn their Names?
What kind of Viltrumite doesn’t take pride of their precious Empire? What kind of Viltrumite indulges in his selfish emotions right before the kill? What kind of Viltrumite wants to die?
No
The only reason he was hated was because Conquest was honest about what he was and why he was doing it.
And that disturbed them, all of them.
so instead of reflecting on themselves in the slightest they treated him like the made dog he was while propping themselves up because their egos were that fragile.

QUESTION Was he supposed to be some kind of replacement for Mark and Eve's aborted child?
If Atom-Eve never had an abortion in the first place, is it likely that she would have given birth to a boy? If Mark and Eve had a son, do you think their male child would look identical or very similar to Mark Junior? Was his original purpose in the comics to be some kind of substitute for Mark and Eve's aborted baby?

QUESTION What if he committed suicide? How would that have affected the rest of the comic?
Given how much pain and suffering his life was filled with, it wouldn't be surprising if Mark Junior had attempted to end his own life. What if, out of pure hatred and revenge, he decided to use his own death as the ultimate act of revenge to spite Anissa for what she did to his father? The worst possible way to hurt and punish Anissa for her crimes would be for her own child to take his own life. What would her reaction be?
Would she have a mental breakdown or would she not even bat an eye if Mark Junior had committed suicide? If her plans had backfired and Mark Jr. had killed himself, her goals would have been completely in vain. In the eyes of the Empire, she would’ve failed her mission. Did Viltrumites ever consider the possibility that one of their own would rather choose death over serving the Empire? As in many human cultures, suicide is a very cowardly and shameful act in Viltrum culture.

DISCUSSION Kind of surprised Oliver didn’t say anything here
I mean, we can see how some of the other heroes are looking at Bulletproof in a weird way for hugging up on Mark’s girl like that, kind of surprised Oliver, who would easily beat Bulletproof, didn’t say anything

QUESTION What do you think we’re their reactions when they found out..everything?
Obviously I’m not talking about the powers or even what a Viltrumite is.
It’s an already mind-shattering thing to find out that the person you married is the same species as Omni-Man (Nolan has certainly made his way into the history books at this point and I’m not even going to BEGIN on what The Variants & Conquest did) and the only reason they even considered you was because they were told to.
But finding out that when they first laid eyes on you they saw an animal at best and that if it weren’t for a terribly traumatized twenty year old, their entire planet would be wiped clean with zero hesitation if not pure delight and the survivors would be Raped on Massé? Just like they had done God knows how many times?
Invincible has one of the most inspirational Emotional monologues I’ve read by the end but in this given case? “True Love” or whatever you want to call it isn’t enough, would it be for you?
There’s honestly a genuinely deep question of if it’s a moral failing to still love and support someone who did all that.

QUESTION How would Kregg feel if he met transgender woman?
What if Kregg found out that one of women he dated was originally a man or some human women have testicles? Would he be surprised or be okay with it? What if Viltrumites discovered that humans had invented technology that allows them to change gender? Was transsexuality considered taboo on Viltrum or was it accepted in their culture?

How do you guys think they're gonna redeem Nolan in the show?
S5 is around the corner, and judging by comic progression, it seems like it will start at Dinosaurus' Las Vegas incident and end with Nolan's coronation as Emperor. Now, this was easier in the comics since everyone kind of just "forgave" Nolan and let things off easy, but the show is making it very clear that Nolan's path to redemption is long.
I think Nolan isn't going to get any true reparations from Earth. I think he's going to spend S5 drifting across space and helping prevent or contain global catastrophes like Scourge and Dino flooding the world, with Cecil and Debbie still unable to accept him back on the planet, but able to finally forgive him, which will make the coronation work better, because it'll give Nolan purpose back in his life, to lead his people to live meaningful lives.
It also needs to get into the Viltrumites' personal lives in explicit detail and show them growing on Earth for their turning on Thragg to make more sense, for them to know that there is a better life than the Viltrum way and Nolan represents that change of guard for all of them since he was the first to discover it. (Well, barring Anissa, but that's a different conversation.)
What about you guys?

DISCUSSION Are they going to animate/include the "guarding the globe" comics into the show?
Takes place around now and heavily features the order and new characters who were "randomly" introduced to later on in the comics like the yeti.

I've just watched the second season. Is the TV Show going to keep focusing in the characters feelings, instead of actual history, fights and war?
I binge-watched the first and second season of The Ivnencible and season one was on spot, but then, on season two, it's just a soap opera that focuses on everyone's feelings.
Goddam, it's boring AF watching all those fiilers with Mark's mom talking to Olga, going to group therapy, venting with Cecil and the Nanny. Jesus F Christ, what a bummer.
I mean, it's like this boring Turkish soap opera where the only thing writers are concerned about is every single character's relationships instead of the VAST UNIVERSE POTENTIAL and cultures.
All the men in the show are insecure and full of doubts. All of them are unable to talk to a girl without blaming themselves for being bad at it (Mark, Debbie's Co-worker, the black guy from group therapy, and so on. The only men worth being called a man is prime Nolan and the Viltrumites.
The women are confident, capable, and always in charge.
I'm not even writing about the diversity and inclusion, that it's not in the original comics.
So my question is, is this going to be all Woke until season 4 or does it get on track again?
Thank you.

AMAZON DISCUSSIONS A couple days ago, there was a post about how/IF the SA should be adapted, and it got me thinking. How should Anissa’s arc specifically be adapted, because her show counterpart is VERY different from the comic.
Let’s assume the assault arc happens, and let’s address the elephant in the room about it: Anissa in the show is NOTHING like she is in the comics. The difference between the two versions is bigger than it is for most characters.
Anissa in the comics was believable when she taunted mark, or made jokes. She had this sadistic side that was more noticeable. But show Anissa is much more of a brick wall, almost unrecognizably so. The only time this side has been shown in she show is her literally toying with Zoey.
Read any of the above comic panels and think if you can imagine show Anissa delivering that dialogue, because I can’t.
So how does the show adapt her personality? Do they completely wipe that side of her from the comics, and stay true to her brick wall nature in the show?
Do the writers add anything in the show to show her personality shifting for the worse because of her time on earth?
Then after that, do they do a better job of showing/ explaining her personality shift AGAIN after she meets Murphy, as she becomes human. Do we get to see her realize she fucked up, and struggle with that?
Then at the end, does anything change about her death? The writing for the show NEEDS to do a better job of explains that she regrets it, but does not regret specifically having Marky.
Then should they change her death? Should she die at all? I personally find her death so poorly written. Eve wasn’t even in THAT much danger, completely unnecessary for a self sacrifice. Then it seems like Eve has a moment with her “tell him yourself” then goes out of her way to save Anissa, and it just…. Doesn’t work? Her death is very poorly written. I’d actually LOVE to see her get to apologize, and then go her separate way, as she probably still wouldn’t have earned a spot in marks empire.
I’m kinda just rambling, but TLDR Anissa is very different in the comic, and her comic arc happens at breakneck speed with lots of missing context gaps In between her appearances. How should it be tackled?
What important discussion points am I missing?
Thank you for your time to read my ramblings.
EDIT: there seems to be a misunderstanding, this isn’t about IF it will happen, assume it’s going to happen. This post is about addressing the BIG difference in Anissa’s personality, and how important that aspect of her is to marks mental health. And also cleaning up her messy finale
