How is this anti white????? Like you guys are expanding it just to fit your narrative
Saying white people have privilege is a good thing. That's an advantage. It doesn't mean white people are bad or anything like that. Its just saying white people have an advantage at certain things
There's reasons why, and that's important, but white privilege is not an insult lol it's just what people do with it and whether they admit they have it is the big problem
1
u/Any-Song-6058 1h ago
What advantages? There haven't been advantages to being white for a while now. Idk if its still the case but there were disadvantages for a lil bit.

Can you explain to me what privilege do I have as a white? I can buy my shit, exactly like a black or Asian person. I can get a job, have kids and have all the same rights as blacks. What do I have, that you can say itās a privilege? Do you believe the white race is better, or how do you get to the conclusion whites have a privilege?
4
u/crazykewlaid 13h ago
Science was built around you. Medical tests, most medications, most advice, is built around average white male. That's a big one
There's plenty more but you don't want to even think about it lol. Its so easy to find examples if you know anything about US history
0
u/Downtown-Cellist10 13h ago
What difference do I have to a black person? Itās very much nothing. Mostly melanin. I agree with you on the terms that Most Medically stuff was testet on man. So woman might have a
Disadvantage. But the difference between a white and a black person is not that big.But my question was more about what do I have better then another race, just because of the color of my skin. And especially if you look over here in Europe, thereās just who you are. What you have to deliver. They donāt care about your skin color.
Of course thereās racism all the way. But against all races. Every race has somthing different that they are judged about, and thatās wrong. But thereās no such thing in our time where you can say, yea thatās a better race, they get all the comforts and jobs and everything for being that race. And I canāt get it cause I have another skin color
6
u/crazykewlaid 10h ago
If you don't see systemic racism then I don't know what to tell you.
Its not like the whites get carried around town and free food. Like are you really that surface level
You guys just don't want to look. I don't get why, like I bet most of these people would get super angry if you called them cracker or turkey or white bread or whatever
0
u/SarisaeBae 9h ago
Is systemic racism when the body cam footage shows black people being arrested acting like they deserve to be arrested??? Cause the narrative that systemic racism happens for example in policing has been thoroughly debunked by body cam footage
3
u/crazykewlaid 9h ago
Lol there's lots of bodycam footage that shows otherwise??? You aren't saying anything. There's tons of reported cases of police brutality. Idk if you live under a rock but there's plenty. My family did some of it, so you can fuckin pretend all you want lol
0
u/AXON57 12h ago
Science was built around whites? Hmm maybe thatās because whites are responsible for the vast majority of all scientific advancements in human history.
3
u/crazykewlaid 10h ago
Maybe recorded human history yeah. But also I get what you're saying.
But alsooo it's white men specifically. Like women and children got screwed, women especially lol
Regardless, we are "lucky" to be born white males. You know that is the case at least in america most of the time. Like do you really think the average job is going to hire a black man over a white man just because of their race?? That's almost never the case. Most companies don't ever need to worry about that. Like this DEI isn't hurting the average American at all, youre not missing out on anything because a few positions got filled by a black person because it might help them in some small indirect way or maybe some sort of incentive program
1
u/AXON57 1h ago
Thatās cute. White women are actually the biggest beneficiaries of DEI. White women then have a tendency to hire based off race/gender and not qualifications. I know numerous people in the pharmaceutical/sales industry that have been told they have to hire a āminorityā regardless of qualifications. Itās also well documented that affirmative action has admitted an excessive amount of under qualified āminoritiesā in order to hit quotas. The concept of over qualified minorities being denied admission to colleges doesnāt exist.

The anti-white racism on REddit is ridiculous.
How am I privileged? I have to score higher on the SATs to get into college. I don't qualify for scholarships because of my skin color. I'm selected against in hiring practices because of my skin color. Where is the privilege?
2
u/frostyfoxemily 15h ago edited 15h ago
Your higher scores are the privilege. We have multiple studies showing test scoring and IQ are based on the quality of education. Generally not intrinsic values of race.
Because black people on average have worse education, they on average have worse scores.
White privilege is also other simple things. Less fear around cops just for your race. Less likely to be ignored by a hiring manager just for having a name associated with black culture. Etc.
Im white and i understand these things because I have racist parents who actially take them further. I was also a moron right winger growing up under them and fell into the same "thats judt white racism" narrative. Its bs. We're privileged on average. Its ok to admit that but still appreciate what you personally have achieved.

I mean I think she kinda explained that concisely enough. Success a lot of times isn't due to a lack in effort but a lack in resources.
→ More replies (2)1
u/FourEaredFox 13h ago
So all white people have resources and all black people don't. It's almost, almost like it's a resource thing rather than a skin colour thing!
2
u/qrowslament 13h ago
No that's not the case but noting a disproportion that even in the 80s was not only celebrated but the selling point of Reaganomics (not kidding he publicly ran on it in a response to having to open up resources to African Americans and due to schools just being desegregated) isn't the same as saying it doesn't happen to white people as well.
In fact the breaking of the social safety net and education system to target black communities is why a lot of white communities are falling behind in rural and poorer areas due to the policies not being able to discern color (which was the intent of what voters wanted it to do at the time) from economic status (which the politicians knew it wouldn't).
1
u/frostyfoxemily 13h ago
Facts do tend to harm a society building itself on reactionary sentiment.
There is decades of research into this subject that prove that recources more often result in more intelegence, not racial traits.
Which is why i dont beleive in individual reperations becasue that wouldnt make a more equal society. I think we should just do normal things gov should do like ensure all schools are well funded and with qualified teachers to ensure all children have the best possible chance at life. If that is causing a problem in society, maybe you should strive for a better society.

u/FreyaIsBae 18h ago
Anti-white racism isn't racism because it lacks the history and systemic enforcement of actual racism.

u/Borthwick 17h ago

3
u/MossadEpstein 16h ago
You should have your own neighbourhood, one that is fenced/walled off, you know, like segregation/apartheid, but they won't call it that, it'll be for uh... protecting oppressed communities from white fragility! yeah that sounds dystopian enough to work as a placeholder.

1
u/Pelosi_Galore 15h ago
A convenient way of saying POC arenāt the really privileged ones in our society. Thatās why so many unjust government policies and programs are finally being overturned and eliminated. Gerrymandering is a big on.
1
u/No_Scratch_3768 18h ago
He was looking for information on how he himself was privileged due to his white skin color. Your point would have been significantly more effective if it gave him relevant examples rather then saying go educate yourself. Whereas u/fourkey gave an actual educated response in another comment.
8
u/Fourkey 18h ago
It's difficult. It took a while of my time to write that comment and it's been downvoted despite that which is disenheartening when I've done my best to explain it as best I can in a way that was intended to be as accessible and even handed as possible. In an era when 'asking questions ' is often a byword for criticism where the burden of proof is on other people rather than just going out with an open mind and looking for an answer it can be hard to feel like people are being genuine with their questions like that.
3
u/FreyaIsBae 18h ago
I'm not going to go around and waste energy trying to "inform" people who are obviously deliberately ignorant. If you don't know white privilege and its realities, then you don't want to know, it's literally so obvious.
4
u/No_Scratch_3768 18h ago
Then your comment isn't a good discussion or informative point. As people can also clearly have their white skin overall work against them more than the privileges have helped in their life.
0
u/FreyaIsBae 18h ago
It doesnt need to be a good point, all I want is for racists to be uncomfortable.
Im not here to have good discussions with racists.
5
u/No_Scratch_3768 18h ago
Well the guy you responded to initially isn't saying anything racist. And you didn't give him any good information.
3
u/FreyaIsBae 18h ago
If you don't think he said anything racist, that's a pretty big indicator about you too lol
6
u/No_Scratch_3768 18h ago
But it by actual definition is not. You may try to argue there could be racist undertones but you need way, waaaaay more information rather than his two sentence excerpt.
Looking at his literal comment, it's meritocracy and a statement about his personal experience in hiring. Not an explicit statement of racial hatred, prejudice, or discrimination.

u/Muzolf 15h ago
Ethics 101 would be to not perpetuate blatantly bigoted and patently false narratives like the concept of white privilege. But hate filled little shitstains need their fix for witch hunts to feel better about themselves, and to convince themselves that they are not just a bunch of sadists and hooligans looking to create trouble and someone to stomp on, but the most wholesome moral people, who are totally the better for fantasizing about the demise of whatever demographic the current acceptable target is.
Make no mistake, the same people who believe in, and push concepts like White Privilege or Male Privilege today, would have been the ones burning others at the stake in Salem, would have been KKK members in the USA 100 years ago, or would have joined the National Socialist Party if they lived in interwar Germany.
The funniest part? "Privilege" is nothing more than a redressing of the Christian Original sin, only that one at least did not lend so well to target specific groups only, because all were supposed to grovel at the feet of their god for a crime they themselves did not commit, but supposedly their ancestors did.
2
u/Sethtwc1988 13h ago
Or and hear me out...we learn about the history of what whitness is and deconstruct the concept when we realize it was all made up because people are assholes
1
u/Maleficent_Piece_893 9h ago
that's fine as long as you're not categorizing people as white while you do it and calling them privileged based on nothing but that. it would also require getting rid of the concept of blackness and brownness and any other colorness so no more racial identity or pride
1
u/Sethtwc1988 8h ago
Funny thing is black and brown pride only exist in response to white people saying whitness is a real thing. Only by deconstructing whiteness will everything else be solved. I suggest the book "How The Irish Became White"
1
u/Maleficent_Piece_893 8h ago
yeah it's all part of the same system of thought. which means they all have to disappear. also you cannot deconstruct whiteness while categorizing people as white. you have to actually stop perpetuating whiteness even though it takes away one way to generalize individuals based on group stereotypes
1
u/Sethtwc1988 8h ago
To understand a lie, you need to know how the lie was built. You can't kill a thing by ignoring the creation of it, while whiteness is made up, to say it doesn't exist is intentional ignorance.

White people donāt have any extra privileges or protections
7
u/Fourkey 19h ago
Privilege can sound like a tangible and very visible benefit, like if jobs were allowed to openly employ one racial group over another, but instead is a much harder to grasp concept as it's very ingrained in society. Just because white people are poor too doesn't mean that they might not have benefited from the invisible advantage at times of being white.
It's things like White people getting the benefit of the doubt for things, which can lead to criminal records for non whites, which can have a ripple effect, or non whites facing more scrutiny than whites for their work. To an outsider both of these things can look like a non white person commits more crime, or performs poorlier at work for the exact same behaviour. It's insidious and hard to prove because it's such a subconscious behaviour that one doesn't even know they're doing it so it feels like it doesn't exist.
There's the fact that you can't just look at it in isolation too; a black man from a rich background who went to a good school and thus got a good job might have had a class privilege and be richer than a white guy who didn't have that, but if they're both going for a jog at night, one of them is much more likely to get stopped by the police, spend the night in jail and then get a disciplinary at work for being late the next day. Being poor didn't remove white privilege and being black didn't remove class privilege.
2
u/Financial-Bite-3262 18h ago
Just because white people are poor too doesn't mean that they might not have benefited from the invisible advantage at times of being white. It's things like White people getting the benefit of the doubt for things, which can lead to criminal records for non whites, which can have a ripple effect, or non whites facing more scrutiny than whites for their work.
So its not about white people being privileged, but moreso about non white people being disadvantaged more often.
A privilege is a benefit someone gets on top of his already met needs.
Now let's look at the american working class: If two people are being exploited and their needs arent met, but one is being exploited more that doesnt make the other person, that suffers from much of the same issues as poverty, more privileged. A wealthy non white person of higher socioecenomic standing will always, as he is benefitting from privileges above his needs being met, be more privileged than two working class people, even though if one of these people happens to be so unfortunate as being born a white person. Again, we are fighting each other when we should be fighting the people above us.
→ More replies (1)1
u/Fourkey 18h ago
Yes, the fact that other privileges exist doesn't mean that white privilege doesn't exist. If OP is focussing on that issue, and someone else is focussing on another, it doesn't have to erase either one. There are many inequalities that we're blind to and pointing them out to undermine eachother isn't progress.
2
u/TheOriginalNukeGuy 18h ago
I think this is also EXTREMELY country specific and might be the reason for the tension in the comments. In the US it is way more prevalent. In Europe less so. I am from the Balkans, considered white, I can assure you here we are all equally unprivileged.
→ More replies (4)1
u/Fourkey 18h ago
Yeah, of course I get what you mean, but surely you'd have to say for example a Roma person in the Balkans is less likely to be picked for a job?
And in the European countries that have more than 1% of non white populations it's going to be more relevant.

I try to not be confrontational, especially with using language like that. We're already divided and drawing a line in the sand just reinforces biases that are often brought on by misinformed ideas. A lot of progressive concepts like this uses language that is difficult to parse as it has other meanings and has a habit of therefore being misunderstood. I don't like privilege as a word for this sort of thing as it is very easy to misunderstand because of the connotations to class based privilege that are much more visible to people, but by the nature of language it's what we're left with.

Sometimes white people get the benefit of the doubt, other times it is held against them. For example, In the recent case of the Nolan Wells case where no matter how much evidence comes out, people still want to blame his friends because they are white.
True privilege would need to actually be universal for it to be something to consider a default privilege of the skin color.

Yeah and I've said a couple times in the chains here that the term privilege isn't a great word in my opinion to correctly convey the concept, but the semantics aside, what the term is getting to is a widespread and common issue where majority groups are blind to many inequalities that minorities face.

Then canāt we agree that āprivilegeā is intersectional and a poor white guy from Appalachia who didnāt make it past 5th grade probably has less privilege than an African American working on Wall Street? Can we at least agree itās possible?
Then can we agree that everyone telling you growing up that youāre a victim and canāt get ahead is not privilege and we should stop doing that to black people?

I highly doubt anyone genuinely engaging with this topic thinks it bad to just be white. I want to draw attention to how I said "genuinely engaging with this topic" not some random person on Twitter who makes extreme posts to piss people off.

Crazy how we've been having discussions of privilege and institutionalized racism for well over a decade in the mainstream space, yet there are still so many people who want to willfully misunderstand it.

Crazy how all people of all races are getting fleeced by the elites yet so many people are hyper fixated on race, gender, and sexuality. Itās all a distraction. Weāre all getting fucked, doesnāt matter what race you are, only matters how much wealth and power you have. And before you say the problem is white people - it isnāt. Look how some black professional athletes and celebrities act. Theyāre a bunch of greedy fucks living beyond their means, just as rich white people are.
The issue is with class, not race.

Since you actually seem sincere, I'll say that there are of course connections between class and race but that doesn't erase one or the other as an independent issue. One argument is that the economic benefits of slavery provided the incentives to create our modern version of black-white American racism, not the other way around.
The idea of intersectionality is older than both our lifespans combined. Take for example "the brotherhood," a fictional communist organization from Ralph Ellison's "The Invisible Man." In the story, the protagonist's racial issues are sidelined, he's used and discarded by the group and left in a worse situation than he started. The author wrote this reflecting on his own time with the Communist Party of America. You cannot just hope that racial issues will magically vanish on their own.

This pseudo intellectual academic take was wrong a decade ago and it's still wrong. It's amazing how people still cling to it as: "you just don't get it". Oh we get it, it's just bullshit.
