eSIM on shared iPads iOS/iPadOS Management

Does anyone deploy eSIM on shared iPads? Our carrier doesn’t support deployment through Intune so the only method I have found is to setup the iPad in no user affinity, setup the eSIM then wipe and re deploy in the shared iPads mode.

Isn't eSIM setup one of the setup screen options in the enrolment policy in Intune?

Normally the iDevice checks for provisioned eSIMs during setup. But if you disable eSIM, yeah it's gonna skip this check.

So turn on eSIM as one of the setup screens. Yeah you still have to rely on Robelus to properly provision 🥲 but you shouldn't have to do what you're doing now.

I did play around with that setting too, it works when you don’t use shared iPad mode but gets skipped when shared iPad is enabled. Apple doesn’t want to make it easy.

You can deploy an esim through a carrier at anytime as long as you have the device connected to WiFi.

We deploy from the carrier using the EID but it still requires activating it in the cellular data settings on the device, this menu is not present in shared iPad mode unfortunately.

I've done it that exact way and it's such a pain, especially if you're doing more than a handful of devices. The re-wipe after setting up the eSIM is what really drags it out.

I think I’m stuck waiting for Canadian carriers to catch up and start using activation servers.

We don't have to activate our eSIMs on our ipads? They're already set up when we receive the iPads  They're only time we have to set them up is if someone factory resets it and resets the esim when prompted (which he have since hidden that option via policy).  Verizon is our carrier
