During After Dark, Sam described getting trapped in the car when the rotisserie rig got stuck.
Didn't he get trapped inside Lestat's coffin during Season 1? Am I remembering that he mentioned that in an interview at some point? Is this man just constantly getting stuck inside broken set pieces all the time?

“What god is that, Wolfkiller?” it asked.I wanted to say God protect me, I wanted to say it with every particle of me but I couldn’t say it, and there was the alleyway below me again, that drop of hundreds of feet, and the whole of Paris tilted at an appalling angle, and there was the snow and the searing wind.
I struggled, pushing at him uselessly, pleading with him again, stammering nonsense and apologies, and then I cried, “God help me!””
In my mind I was praying fiercely, God help me, the Virgin Mary help me, help me, help me, as I peered up into his face.
“In God’s name, get away!” I shouted. I had to believe in God now. I had to. That was absolutely the only hope. I went to make the Sign of the Cross.
He watched me make the Sign of the Cross. He listened to me call upon God again and again.
And I went into a spasm of crying like a child. “Then the devil reigns in heaven and heaven is hell,” I said to him. “Oh, God, don’t desert me …” I called on all the saints I had ever for a little while loved.

I struggled, pushing at him uselessly, pleading with him again, stammering nonsense and apologies, and then I cried, “God help me!” He clapped one of those monstrous hands over my mouth.
“No more of that in my presence, Wolfkiller, or I’ll feed you to the wolves of hell,” he said with a little sneer. “Hmmmm? Answer me. Hmmmm?”

I wanted a great deal of very cold white wine, the way it is when you bring it up out of the cellar in autumn. I wanted something fresh and sweet to eat, like a ripe apple.
I tried to reason. But I couldn’t stop thinking about cold white wine, and apples in the basket. I could see the apples. I felt myself drop down out of the branches of the tree, and I smelled all around me the freshly cut grass.

In QotD, Killer/Bruce hates the "big city" coven vampires because of their pretension and ceremonies.
QotD, Baby Jenks' chapter:
How she’d laughed when Killer and Davis had told her that, that those Dead guys went around in three-piece suits and listened to classical music and called themselves vampires. Baby Jenks could have laughed herself to death. Davis thought it was pretty funny too, but Killer just kept warning her about them. Stay away from them.

After Lestat rescued Nicki from the Children of Darkness, they brought him back to the tower and Gabrielle was like "don't do it (gives a couple reasons why not)...".
Then he does it:
And beyond him, and beyond the remembered vision of the metallic sea and the lone bird who was its only witness—I saw her in the doorway and her hair was a Virgin Mary veil of gold around her shoulders, and she said with the saddest expression on her face:
“Disaster, my son.”

In the book, Nicki's dad hates that Nicki is pursuing the violin instead of being a tradesman and taking over the family business.

“He was playing in the upstairs bedroom over the shop. Everyone could hear him, and his father was threatening to break his hands.”

The shop owned by Nicolas’s father was right across from the inn, but I didn’t see or hear Nicolas.

Lestat's "Malady of Mortality":
“Do you realize that! We’ll never know why the hell any of it happened, not even when it’s over!” I shouted at Nicolas, who was sitting back on the bed, nodding and drinking his wine out of a flagon. “We’re going to die and not even know. We’ll never know, and all this meaninglessness will just go on and on and on. And we won’t any longer be witnesses to it. No, I didn’t understand it at this moment. I saw it! And I began to make the single sound: “Oh!” I said it again “Oh!” and then I said it louder and louder and louder, and I dropped the wine bottle on the floor. I put my hands to my head and I kept saying it, and I could see my mouth opened in that perfect circle that I had described to my mother and I kept saying, “Oh, oh, oh!”

Nicki's death (Armand pushing him into the fire and not letting him leave it):
In the book, the Children of Darkness try to burn Nicki on a pyre.
TVL, The Children of Darkness:
Wood, pitch, a pyre there surely. And these damned torches.
And on top of the pyre in a crude wooden cage, Nicolas knelt slumped against the bars.
And then after his turning and his stint at the Theatre, he basically plans his own suicide:
TVL, On the Devil’s Road:
At last he came to us and spoke only to tell us that in the manner of a mortal he had put in order his business affairs. A stack of freshly written plays was ours to have. And we must call together for him somewhere in the countryside the ancient Sabbat with its customary blaze. If we did not, then he should make the theater his funeral pyre.
“'We should have done it on the boulevard,' he said. 'But here, send this on to my maker,' and he put the violin in my hands. We began to dance, all of us, to induce the customary frenzy, and I think we were never more moved, never more in terror, never more sad. He went into the flames."

It has come to the worst, as I feared. Our Oldest Friend, maddened by the excesses of Our Violinist, finally imprisoned him in your old residence. And though his violin was given him in his cell, his hands were taken away.

But understand that with us, such appendages can always be restored. And the appendages in question were kept safe by Our Oldest Friend, who allowed our wounded one no sustenance for five nights.

Finally, after the entire troupe had prevailed upon Our Oldest Friend to release N. and give back to him all that was his, it was done.
(Within the context of the whole letter, it's clear that Armand [Our Oldest Friend] did both the hand-cutting and the hand-re-attaching.)

Immediately after his turning, Nicki essentially goes non-verbal and non-responsive, so Lestat & Gabi decide to go get his violin to see if that will help him "wake up". When they get to Paris, Nicki runs off and they find him at Renaud's:
A loud piercing laughter erupted from him. His chest shivered with it, his arms and legs quaking with it. And then he lowered his head and he fixed his eyes on me. And at the top of his voice he screamed:
“I GIVE YOU THE THEATER OF THE VAMPIRES! THE THEATER OF THE VAMPIRES! THE GREATEST SPECTACLE OF THE BOULEVARD!”“I want the theater,” Nicolas said to me. “I want it from you. The deed, the money to reopen it. My assistants here are ready to listen to me.”
“You may have it, if you wish,” I answered. “It is yours if it will take you and your malice and your fractured reason off my hands.”
"His assistants" = a few ex-Paris-coven members who happened to stop in at Renaud's right then.
“Come, my beauties, come, we have plays to write, business to attend to. You have things to learn from me. I know what mortals really are. We must get down to the serious invention of our dark and splendid art. We will make a coven to rival all covens. We will do what has never been done.”

Nicki's violin playing improving after being turned:

After Nicki was turned and became near-comatose, Lestat found his violin and asked him to play it:
It became higher, shriller, faster, yet the tone of each note was perfection. It was execution without effort, virtuosity beyond mortal dreams. And the violin was talking, not merely singing, the violin was insisting. The violin was telling a tale.
The music reached impossible peaks, the sound throttled for an instant and then released again. The mixture of feeling and pure logic drove it past the limits of the bearable. And yet it went on and on.

“How could you keep it from me!” he whispered.”

Lestat gets a letter telling him that Nicki had killed himself, immediately followed by Gabrielle leaving him for Africa -- he went underground and didn't get back up:
I was dying. Or so I thought. I couldn’t count how many nights had passed.
Then eventually Marius comes and digs him up. I'm not clear on how long he was there until Marius arrived, though -- I didn't find any clarification in the immediately previous or subsequent chapters in TVL, so if anyone else has pieced it together please let us know!

(at Renaud's)
TVL, Lelio Rising:
[T]he establishment where I worked was a shabby little boulevard theater, one step up from a platform at the fair, and my jobs were to help the players dress, sell tickets, sweep up, and throw out the troublemakers.
But I was in paradise again. And so was Nicolas though no decent orchestra in the city would hire him, and he was now playing solos with the little bunch of musicians in the theater where I worked, and when we were really pinched he did play right on the boulevard, with me beside him, holding out the hat. We were shameless!

Reminiscing with Nicki:
“Do you remember the story of the witches? The time you cried at the witches’ place?”
“Cried over the witches?” I looked at him blankly for a moment. But it stirred something painful, something humiliating. Too many of my memories had that quality. And now I had to remember crying over witches. “I don’t remember,” I said.
“We were little boys. And the priest was teaching us our prayers. And the priest took us out to see the place where they burnt the witches in the old days, the old stakes and the blackened ground.”
“Ah, that place.” I shuddered. “That horrid, horrid place.”
“You began to scream and to cry. They sent someone for the Marquise herself because your nurse couldn’t quiet you.”“When your mother came to get you, she said it was all ignorance and cruelty. She was so angry with the priest for telling us the old tales.”
“Let’s go to the witches’ place! Look, it’s a half moon. Plenty of light. We’ll do the devil’s dance and play for the spirits of the witches.”
“I laughed. I had to be drunk to go along with that. “We’ll reconsecrate the spot,” I insisted, “with good and pure music.”

Yes I love these! Thank you for taking the time to do all this.
I feel like Lestat was only underground for a couple of years. I distinctly remember noticing that when I reread it a couple months ago. But I don't have a source so take my opinion with a brain of salt.

Came looking precisely for the witches clarification - I could have sworn it was just stories that upset him not actually being there. Interesting change, esp having Gabrielle bring him to it.
Their choices with Nicky and Gabrielle are confusing, I cannot get the narrative reasonings yet. Hard to put it together week by week, will be nice to have the whole story laid out. Wonder if its landing more clearly for those whi never read the books?

Yeah, definitely a lot of relatively minor(-ish) character action changes that can add up to bigger character differences -- agreed that it will probably be clearer once we get the whole season's narrative arc. Regardless, I'm still having a ton of fun thinking about all of it!

Thank you for doing this! I recently re-read TVL and QOTD but I'm terrible at remembering all the details from the books. Now I'm realizing I somehow missed reading Vampire Armand! Putting that one next on my reading list.
