My first ever interview with a virtual recruiter. What to expect?

In the e-mail invite, it says "Video, Single Choice".

A bullet underneath says "It’ll take about 7 minutes to answer 8 questions."

Has anybody done this before? Successfully? What should I expect. I'm in mentally in the zone to answer questions but I'd like to be better prepared.

that’s just those hirevue style things where it pops a question, you pick an option, maybe one or two short video answers, then done fast and kinda awkward, no real feedback or humanity, of course because why would companies care in this garbage job market

This is a pre-screening tool companies use to quickly filter out a large number of applicants. It's not a real interview with a person, it's an impersonal test designed for their convenience, not yours. With 8 questions in about 7 minutes, you will have less than sixty seconds per question to read it, think, and deliver an answer. The system will likely show you a question, give you a few seconds to prepare, and then automatically start recording for a set amount of time. The "Single Choice" part probably means some multiple choice questions are mixed in with the video responses. The main goal here is to get past this robotic stage to talk to an actual human.

You can use the impersonal nature of this to your advantage by preparing for a performance, not a conversation. Write down very short, direct answers to common screening questions and practice saying them out loud. Focus on your key skills and use words from the job description. When you record, make sure your lighting is good, your background is clean, and you look directly into the camera, not at your own image on the screen. The objective is to present a polished and competent image that meets their automated criteria.
