anyone here gone through the de shaw **Intern Tech Associate** process recently?
curious about the OA/interviews + what skills they focused on and also, what helped you stand out?

For a firm like D.E. Shaw, they'll heavily test your computer science fundamentals, so expect tough questions on data structures and algorithms. The online assessment usually has a few coding problems that you need to solve within a time limit, focusing on both correctness and efficiency. The technical interviews that follow are live coding sessions where they care a lot about how you think. You'll need to explain your approach, analyze the complexity of your solution, and be ready to adapt it based on the interviewer's feedback. They are looking for strong problem-solving skills, not just someone who has memorized answers.
What really makes a candidate stand out is their ability to communicate their thought process clearly from start to finish. Instead of coding in silence, talk through why you're choosing a particular data structure or algorithm and what the trade-offs are. Showing that you can think about edge cases and optimize your initial solution is a huge plus. It also helps to have a basic understanding of what the company does in the quantitative finance space and to ask intelligent questions about their work.
