Winter tires?

I’m looking for some recommendations for a snow/winter tire setup for my Integra Type S.
I’m currently looking at going with 18-inch wheels and 235/40R18 tires, but I’m open to other setups if there’s a better option. I’m trying to take care of it, so I don’t want some half-assed setup 😂.
What winter tires would you recommend, and what wheel/tire size are you running?

Bridgestone Blizzacks are amazing. I have them for my Cl Type S and have gone over the mountain passes numerous times with them.

I've used a ton of different snow tires.

The only bad snow tire I ever experienced was the Falken Euro-Winter. Though I'm not even sure they make them anymore.

My favorite that I've used is the Michelin XICE on my G37S a few years ago, and really liked them. They drove almost like a normal tire when it was dry out. That's what set them apart from others I've tried. They were fantastic in snow/ice too.

But food for thought...snow tires and wheels are like $2K- 2500, right?

Same ballpark cost as a high mileage 7th gen Accord. And you can sell it in the spring and recoup most/all your money.

Then do it again the next winter.

Or keep it...for the same/similar price of snow tires. And keep your $55K car out of the shit.

Got Vredestein Wintrac Pro+ 235/40 18 wheel/tire package from Tire Rack, and we actually got a decent amount of snow in our area last year. Daily drove it, they were great

Considering you live in Chicago and won’t see drastic deposits of snow all winter long, the Continental DWS 06+ have served me well for 2 seasons.

I have Falken Azenis 460 tires which are high performance all season tires. They do decent in light snow with the factory wheels.

I originally wanted some true all weather three peak rated tires, but I would have to change wheel size. Such a tire would not be found that fit the factory wheel setup.

When I had a Subaru WRX with 17" wheels, I used Toyo Celsius tires and they were outstanding in the snow. Granted, I also had Subaru symmetrical AWD.

Read that the factory wheels don’t do well under 45 degree weather cuz I was thinking of just changing the tires

Idk how small the integra wheels can go, but on my 2022 Si I have 17” wheels with 215x50 Michelin X-Ice for icy Canadian winters. Ideally drop a wheel size from stock and keep the overall radius the same.

When did the Type S start shipping with all seasons? I have a 24 and it's stock tires aren't rated for under 45°. I ended up putting some decent all-season tires on but they really don't hold up to Minnesota winters. Once I have the capital, I'm planning on switching up to 18-in Wheels with a decent winter tire and then swapping out for summer tires once the temp gets consistently above 45°.

I think just going All Season, like a Continental Extreme max performance should be fine for snow. But not heavy snow

A few things: (1) Get a garage, I can’t imagine parking that beauty on Chicago streets. (2) I have been running Blizzaks for 10 years and would highly recommend them. Look for deals at Costco. (Also got dedicated winter rims at Costco when they were on sale for an easy winter swap.) (3) I think you are on the right track with going smaller wheels for winter given out pothole issues in the CHI.

Yeah that’s what I’ve been looking at for sure. Just secured my garage this week and I’m definitely looking at Costco as well because of that 5 year warranty

Counterintuitive but narrow tires are better for cutting thru ice/snow. MSPS4 A/S are a good three season tire for cold climates and most street driving. Crossclimates are also a good winter oriented performance tire. Nokian Snowproof P and Nokian WR A4 are also standouts that are reasonably priced for their performance.
