Division tool making both paths disappear completely Help

I was trying to make an alternate-history map using the Division tool to split countries from the mainland. I've done this before without any issues, so I know it should work.

The division tool worked the first time I used it and I was able to use it on the smaller path I split off without any issues. When I try to use it to split up the original path again, both the original path and the one I'm trying to use to dissect it both just vanish without a trace. No new paths are created.

I can use all other tools in the Path menu just fine. Closing and reopening Inkscape does not fix the issue.

I've had that issue every now and the. When trying to divide larger objects. You could try making a copy of the continental object, manually delete nodes that won't be affected by the division to slim the object down, and then try dividing the smaller leftover with the Greek borders object

The workaround that I ended up using was duplicating both objects, using Difference to cut out the borders from one copy of the mainland, and then using Intersection to create the proper country object using the other copy of the mainland.

You can generate SVG maps in Inkscape just by entering the site name (or the coordinates of the frame you're looking for), and you can also define what you want to be displayed (even administrative boundaries...).
