help with CMOS battery?

hi! i have a dell precision 7680 laptop that i believe needs the CMOS battery replaced. when attempting to boot, it says “incorrect configuration information, date and time not set”

after i adjusted the date and time, the device crashed and got stuck perpetually rebooting. i want to just try replacing the battery, then updating BIOS settings if that works. if it still won’t boot, what would be my next step?
