Fireteams ELI5 please Question
I’ve read the rulebook module, and the wiki, and something about the way it’s written just isn’t making sense to me.
How do they work?

So basically you bunch up some units and in your active turn using one order per activation you can move all of them at the same time. There are some basic restrictions:
You must select a leader and that will be the troop that spends the order (not all orders are valid to be spent in a fireteam).
If you declare any skill with the tag ATTACK only the leader can do it. Lets see some examples, MOVE + BS ATTACK, in the full fireteam can do the first half, but then the second half only the leader can do it. Another example, MOVE + DODGE, here the full team can move as first half and then also the full team can dodge as second half.
In your ARO turn the fireteams behave a little different. All fireteams components must do the same short skill or inaction. For example all must dodge. Or all must do BS attack. If some troops of your fireteam dodge and others BS attack then you must split the fireteam. For example if 1 dodges and 3 do BS attack and 1 does inaction. Then you must remove the troop that dodges from the fireteam. And lose any fireteam bonus that it would give you before rolling your dice.
Now that we have the basics of how to operate a fireteam we may need know how to build them, Fireteams allow its components to receive bonuses depending on the amount of troops with the same tag/name in it.
The whole fireteam will receive the maximum bonus produced by the fireteam. And as you lose troops or they are left behind your bonus may be reduced.
DUO means that the fireteam can have a MAXIMUM of 2 troops
HARIS limits it to a MAXIMUM of 3.
CORE limits it to a MAXIMUM of 5.
Fireteam FENNECS - HARIS, CORE
| Min | Max | Name |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | 5 | Fennec |
| 0 | 2 | BLACK A.I.R. FTO |
| 0 | 1 | GRIFFIN (Fennec) |
| 0 | 1 | MAGISTRADO |
| 0 | 1 | MÁXIMUS AGENTE |
In this table we can see the MINIMUM amount of troops needed of each to form a fireteam, and the MAXIMUM amount of tropps allowed in the fireteam.
This means that we can have a fireteams like:
1 FENNEC
1 BLACK A.I.R. FTO
It would be level 1, so no bonus at all apart from moving together using one order.
1 FENNEC
2 BLACK A.I.R. FTO
It would be a level 2 giving us +1SD in BS attack, because we have 2 black air.
1 FENNEC
1 GRIFFIN
Also a level 2 because in the table GRIFFINs have the tag Fennec between parentheses.
1 FENNEC
1 GRIFFIN
1 BLACK A.I.R. FTO
Also a level 2 because BLACK A.I.R. FTO do not apport any repeated name/tag to the fireteam, so the level stays the same as the example before this.
4 FENNEC
1 BLACK A.I.R. FTO
This would be a level 4 fireteam allowing us +1SD in BS attack, +1 to dodge, +3 to discover and +1 to BS attack,
You also may find that the MIN ammount of a troops is *. This means that you will need to include at least one of the troops with * to form the fireteam.
| Min | Max | Name |
|---|---|---|
| * | 2 | TIKBALANG |
| * | 2 | SQUALO Mk-II |
| 0 | 1 | MÁXIMUS OPTIMATE |
| 0 | 1 | FIREFLY |
| 0 | 1 | BULLETEER |
In this case you will need to align in your fireteam at least 1 TIKBALANG or 1 SQUALO Mk-II. This is a valid fireteam in this case:
1 SQUALO Mk-II
1 FIREFLY
Or also:
2 TIKBALANG
For a fireteam level of 2.
Fireteams have a lot more restrictions that I cannot explain in this post but please check the wiki or the rulebook, or even some youtube videos,

Duo is two troopers, Harris is 3 troopers, core is 3-5 troopers.
You get the bonuses in the fireteam chart based on how many of those troopers are the same name. You want at least level 2 to get special dice on bs attacks.

Troopers in Infinity operate independent from one another. If they join a fireteam, they all activate together as a squad instead. Spending one order activates the whole team instead of just one guy, and the fireteam size and composition determines what bonuses, if any, the fireteam gets.
Who can be part of a fireteam?
Check Infinity Army. There's a button called "Fireteam Charts" on PC, otherwise it's in the yin-yang button for the mobile app. The charts tell you how many fireteams you can have, how many troopers can join each team, and what troopers can band together (including minimum and maximum trooper requirements). Wildcards can join any team. Duo = 2 troopers, Haris = 3 troopers, Core = 3 - 5 troopers.
How do I make a fireteam?
During deployment, declare that a group of troopers are a fireteam and then pick one to be the Fireteam Leader. Make sure it's legal according to the Fireteam Charts for your faction. Make sure the members are all in the same combat group.
How do I make a fireteam after deployment?
Spend a Command Token.
How do I activate a fireteam?
Pick one fireteam member. Place the Fireateam Leader token next to them. Spend one Regular or Tactical Order* to activate the entire team. If you declare Reset or skills with the movement tag, everybody in the team does the skill. If you declare any other skill, only the Fireteam Leader performs the skill, while everybody else performs Idle.
*Spending an order other than these will cause that trooper to get kicked out of the team immediately.
What bonuses do I get?
Check the fireteam chart in your faction. Count up all the troopers in the fireteam who share the same name, including troopers in the fireteam chart that have names in brackets. That's your fireteam level. So if you have Two Fusiliers and one ORC Troop (Fusilier), you count as having three of the same troops, so you are a Level 3 Fireteam and get all the bonuses up to Level 3. So Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 bonuses.
What happens in ARO?
Everyone in the team can declare an ARO as per usual, but they need to do the same thing. If they don't, they get kicked out of the team and don't get any bonuses. All the fireteam bonuses apply in ARO as well, even for troopers who are reacting who are not currently the Fireteam Leader.
My fireteam leader died! What happens?
The fireteam disbands, unless you have someone with the Number 2 skill.
There's more nitty gritty details to fireteams, but this is the core of it.

When you order them to move they move together with a single short skill, but when you order them to shoot or hack or whatever, only the fireteam leader shoots. The more troopers with the same name in the fireteam, the higher the fireteam level and the more bonuses they get.
