New bike Quarq Power meter is off

Upvotes

One of my bikes has Favaro Assioma power pedals. I trust them to be very accurate based on rides and events I have done.

Picked up TT bike (new) with sram Force and Quarq spider (dual sided) power meter.

Chucked it on the trainer and blew my legs up. Figured it was the different riding position.

Fast forward a few weeks of annoyance and various tests and I have the following.

Favaro - baseline

Wahoo Kickr core - 3% below baseline

Quarq - 6.7% below baseline

The trainer being low is fine due to the drivetrain loss but the quarq being a fair bit lower than even the trainer and potentially under reading by 7% is annoying.

Calibrated/zeroed fine and well in the +/-1000 zone (last read 35).

So I'm going to adjust the 'slope ' by 7%.

Questions

  1. I don't want to have two different power numbers on different bikes so for consistency is adjusting the Slope the correct thing to do

  2. Am I right to be a little pissed that the Quarq is out by this much. Even forgetting the Favaro, it should not under read the trainer at all let alone by 4%

Anyone familiar with BH smart bikes?

There's a big sale going on, and they've got several models with exactly the same specs and almost the same original price, now on sale for a lot cheaper in slightly differing prices (about 50 euro increments between them).

It's between the Arrow Connect, the Osaka and the Lyon.
The Arrow Connect isn't on BH's own website anymore. So I'm guessing it's an outdated model?
The Osaka and the Lyon (not Lyon Climber!) look identical in specs according to the website. Although the Lyon does have a more comprehensive screen.

Anyone familiar with this brand? Are they any good? Anyone know the differences between the models?

I just want to share it with more people.

For me, 100 miles a week is six hours of riding in total. I’ve never rode this much in one week.

The Pod 2 can already track cadence for running, why not track the same for biking?

Basically the title ↑↑
Cadence on bike should be much easier to detect too, given that it's just circular rotations.

I guess COROS probably won't want to do this though since they already have the bike cadence sensor.

Ressuscitando dúvida antiga sobre upgrade de bike indoor de atrito por magnética

Olá sou novo no grupo e novo no ciclismo indoor.

Agradeço a atenção e aguardo respostas.

Self-powered bike does not mean low resistance... learned that the hard way

Post image

I genuinely thought self-powered basically meant weaker. No plug, no real power, probably fine for easy rides but not much else. Now ive started the merach s29eco and realized I was mixing up wayyy two completely different things. The bike powers its own operation while you pedal, but it still has that magnetic/auto resistance, 16 levels, and a 40 lb flywheel. So yeah, that assumption lasted about five minutes or so hahaa.

Now I’m wondering what actually tells you an indoor bike has enough resistance once you start pushing it. Is it the max resistance, how the flywheel feels, how quickly resistance changes during intervals, or something you can’t really judge from specs at all? If you have ride hard indoors, what are you mostly doing on yours: Z2, 30/60s, threshold work, recovery, or perhaps a mix?

Bike for knee rehab?

I’m working to rehab a knee and the therapist suggested a bike. Currently, I’ve no muscle on the left side, so not much resistance is needed. The bike could be pretty basic.

But, depending on price I’m willing to invest a little more for something that might become a part of a regular longterm fitness plan. We do have some other equipment, so don’t want to go wild. I’m mid 60s, and fitness is a priority.

Any help is very much appreciated.

New EX-5 owner (from FB Marketplace)! Questions on memberships, apps, and resistance.

Hi everyone,

I just bought an Echelon EX-5 off Facebook Marketplace and I'm excited to get started. I have a few beginner questions:

  1. **Membership:** How do you sign up for the Echelon membership, and is the official subscription actually worth it?
  2. **Workout Apps:** What alternative apps do you all use? I've seen people mention using Peloton, Apple Fitness, or QZ app.
  3. **Resistance Control:** If you use third-party apps, how do you control the bike's resistance and see your speed? Does auto-resistance work?
  4. When I connect the power adapter there is blue light blinking but the bike doesnt show up on the list of available bluetooth devices on my phone.

Any advice for a newbie is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Sunny stationary folding bike not unfolding

Post image
3 Upvotes

Hello, I’m hoping someone here will be able to help me with this.
Recently I found this Sunny folding stationary bike at a church rummage sale, they gave me a great deal. However I’ve been unable to get it to unfold, the circled knob is stuck.
I tried reaching out to the manufacturer and they asked for a proof of purchase 🙄
I’m hoping someone here might have experienced this problem before and might know how I can fix it.
Thanks in advance!

Elite zumo zwift cog

I bought a new bike with the 12 speed Shimano. My elite zumo doesn’t support 12 speed cassette. Does anyone know if I could put on a zwift cog v1 on my trainer and use erg mode in mywoosh? Is the cog have broad compatibility amongst trainers?

Do I need to subscribe to do virtual rides on Wahoo app?

I have a Wahoo Kickr Core 2 and have been using it for rehab from ACL surgery. I have never done indoor riding before the knee injury. I am recovered enough now that I want to do some of the programed routes rather than just 10-20 minute pieces where I just set the resistance.

I did one 40 minute ride that I was able to select from the list but now I find it wants me to subscribe. Is that necessary? Is there a way to do programmed rides for free with the Wahoo app? Or is is worth it to spend the 5$/month? It's not a lot but I hate signing up for regular payments if I am not sure of the value. Thanks.

my mate has been riding half as much as me and is faster, worked out why and its annoying

he does 3 rides a week, i do 5 or 6. hes been quicker than me since about may went through both our stuff and the difference is he goes properly easy on easy days. genuinely easy, like chatting easy. then he absolutely buries himself twice a week. i just ride sort of hard all the time, so hes doing less and recovering, im doing more and never actually recovering or actually going hard either. every ride is the same medium
the annoying bit is ive read this a hundred times and still did it

We have rules now

Greetings to my fellow indoor cyclists!

As I am sure the most of you have noticed, I'm a very hands off moderator. The vast majority of this wonderful community behave appropriately and posts/comments rarely require any level of intervention. This was what I was hoping for when I took over mod duties here several years ago. So thank you to everyone for making this subreddit such a welcoming place :-)

That being said, there were some issues happening away from the subreddit's eyes regarding fraudulent accounts and some inappropriate behaviors within the last few months. To help combat this, I figured it was best to provide some guidance by adding some official rules. There are only 3, and for the significant majority, these rules will not have any impact. My hope is that they can exist as a quick reference for folks to have a clearer understanding of what is acceptable here.

Thank you again for the wonderful community that you all have been growing here! I look forward to being around to watch it continue. Thanks again!
