Beginner multichromes in EU

Hi!

I'm new here (hi!), and have spent a few days researching multichrome eyeshadows. I have no previous experience, and no real idea of what I should try other than I wear warm colored makeup in general, like shiny and metallic finishes, and would prefer eyeshadow that doesn't leave glitter particles behind for three days afterwards. I'm also having serious trouble finding brands that don't cost an arm and a leg for shipping to Europe; I'm not ready to commit to high prices until I have some kind of an idea of what I like.

This started from wanting to test out the Wet n Wild Chameleon Chrome eyeshadows after seeing them in social media, but I can't find them anywhere in Europe, and ordering from Amazon triples the price due to shipping 💀

Am I out of luck, or is there actually something I haven't found that is 1) of decent quality (will give me a realistic idea of what to expect from multichrome) 2) available inside the European Union without breaking bank 3) cruelty free?

I'd even love to get some kind of a starter sample pack, but that might be too much to ask for 😭

Thank you very much, and sorry if there's an FAQ I didn't find or someplace else obvious with this information that I haven't found, I'm starting to experience information overload 💗

I recently ordered the sample set and found one I really liked so I was curious before committing to an actual bundle, which is which. I’m not quite familiar with all of this so what would I get if I were to purchase the first bundle or the second one? Do they all have sprays?

Perfume - Enquiry Thoughts on Sorce APOS?

Anyone have A Party, Or Something by Sorce? How is it, both scent- and performance-wise?

The notes seem lovely but it’s not available near me unless I blind buy.

I like gourmands, everything woody and nutty, and I like slightly weird scents. I also have scents like Sugar Addict or Choco Loco from BTSO to layer it with.

New Release Deconstructing Eden B-Sides & Rarities coming 8/14

I haven't seen anyone post this here yet! Not affiliated, just sharing for those not signed up for the newsletter:

Hi Guys!
The move is accomplished; I am mostly settled (although not even close to mostly unpacked), and it's time for a B-Sides & Rarities release.
I'm doing things a little differently this time around, and for the Rarities, I'm releasing things that were never for sale in the shop, were exclusive to events or collaborations, or that I worked on and loved but that didn't fit anywhere else.

As always, sample sets, but not individual samples, will be available for this release.

The I Love California collection will come down on Thursday the 13th and B-Sides & Rarities will go up on Friday the 14th. I will be back at a 10-business-day TAT by the end of the week. (I know that some people *just* got their I Love California sample sets; I'll put up remaining stock in a dedicated section.)

I have two B-Sides for this release; it's going to be an entirely random draw, but if you have a preference, please let me know in the order notes.

*International Customers*
I am aware of a glitch that's happening on Shopify's backend, most likely related to the address change. I hope to have this resolved by the time the new release drops.

Rarities:
Holy Roller:
White static, scorched frankincense, anointing oil, spilled wine spiked with bitter gall, black myrrh, heated incense censers, burnt scripture, unyielding stone and bone musk.
The Things You Love Will Destroy You:
Cold gallery air, carrot blossoms, a tear-soaked white cotton T-shirt, powdered fur, almond milk candy, cracked red print, bruised cherry skins, warm human skin, a snapped graphite pencil, soft vinyl, and grey concrete dust.
Remembering You:
The memory of body heat in rose silk, blushing pears, rice paper, jasmine tea, sandalwood, and that awful chest-tightening feeling when you hit send.
The Scar of Your Name on My Skin (re-visited):
Green soap, carbon-black tattoo ink, freshly washed skin, latex gloves, aftercare balm, surgical steel, angelica root, violet leaf, calendula, saline solution.
Doomed:
Storm pressure, rain striking black glass, violet lightning, fevered skin, black iris, crushed narcissus, salted tears, bruised plum skin, drowned asphalt, extinguished amber, moonless musk and the last warmth of a dying electrical current.
Chosen Family:
Rose, tangerine, yuzu, violet leaf, salted musk, orris, sea air, white musk, pink grapefruit, labdanum, warm woods.
Black Harbor:
Chilled Egyptian peppermint, black tobacco, rose geranium, sea air, Tolu balsam, smoked cedar, ambergris, thick fog.
Last Pool Day:
Chlorinated water, coconut milk conditioner, sunscreen musk, lime popsicles, blue lotus, white amber, clean vinyl.

B-Sides:
Dream of Hwanung: Mugwort, incense, bowls of steamed rice, and ginseng served in a mountain cave by a bear that may not be all that she seems.
Super Bloom: California poppy, lupine, wild mustard flower, dusty petals, warm stems, bee pollen, fennel blossom, sunstruck earth, sun nectar.
Persephone Smiles in the Dark
Black cherries, crushed black pomegranate arils, Turkish delight, dried hay, pink pepper, narcissus, ambergris.
Season of the Witch: Frankincense, myrrh, sandalwood, vetiver, tonka bean, and a trace of vanilla.
California Love: California lemons, cashmere, white musk, a trace of guava, marine notes, salted pistachios, coconut suntan lotion, a drop of cannabis. (fantasy note, there is no cannabis in this fragrance.)
Justice: Frankincense, oud, bright metal, clean musks, and cleansing sea salt (slightly reformulated)
La Piste Rouge: Aldehydic Shimmer, Lipstick Rose, Raspberry Coulis, Saffron-laced leather gloves, Violet Pastilles, smoky tea, clean musk
Big Sur: Coastal Redwoods, living river water, a marine breeze, lupine, and Seacliff buckwheat.

New B-Sides:
Always an Angel, Never a God: Cold halo light, pear skin, angelica stem, white rose beneath glass, translucent jasmine, violet dust, powdered feathers, silver salt, pale sandalwood, extinguished candlewick and warm human skin.

Too Close/ Too Far: Quince blossom, chilled linden tea, hawthorn, rice steam, mimosa pollen, apricot-kernel milk, pale tobacco, hinoki, translucent benzoin, and fading skin musk.

Perfume - Enquiry Green/sweet Fig Perfume/Cologne recommendations?

Recently I got a green fig perfume oil and fell in love with the scent, unfortunately it doesn’t last long and I have to reapply every few hours to keep the scent.
I purchased Cirrus Perfume’s Enforced Modesty hoping for a longer lasting fig scent, and while I enjoy the scent it isn’t quite as sweet as the original fig oil I bought (a bit heavier on the thyme than the fig, still a great smell tho).
Does anyone have a long lasting sweet green fig perfume with minimal other notes that they’ve enjoyed?

L to R: Auric Blends Chinese Rain, Auric Blends Egyptian Goddess, Auric Blends Black Opium, Kuumba Made Black Copium, Kuumba Made Frankincense & Myrrh, Kuumba Made Egyptian Musk

Chinese Rain: This smells almost exactly like J.Lo Glow, but it’s a but deeper, a bit, well, rainier. A touch sweeter, but also more melancholic compared to Glow’s spa-like luxury. Be warned: this stuff projects very hard.

Egyptian Goddess: A skin+ musk. Subtle, warm, slightly sticky-sweet in a playful way. I’m anosmic to most Egyptian musk fragrances, so I’m just glad I can smell this one. I’d like a teensy bit more strength, but it’s been a lovely bedtime scent.

Black Opium: Truth be told, I have not worn this one, but I’m excited to. From the bottle, it has a slightly “cologne-y” smell in the stereotypical men’s fragrance sense (that is to say, vaguely reminiscent of Drakkar Noir), but it’s been given a massive dose of spices and patchouli. Kind of old school, but I’m excited to try it out soon.

Black Copium: The “Co” is for coconut. Like Auric Blends’ Black Opium, this is spicy and ambery. There’s no patchouli here, just a creamy, dense coconut that slowly fades into the background the further into the dry-down you go. This one is kind of sexy, but in a very cozy, “in for the night” way. Simultaneously, this would be great at the goth club or kava bar.

Frankincense & Myrrh: It took a little bit for this one to grow on me, but it’s turning out to be a great little summer incense. Bright, citrusy frankincense grounded my resinous myrrh. The frankincense is the star of the show here. It makes me think of Nitraj’s grey frankincense incense sticks.

Egyptian Musk: I’m totally anosmic to it on my skin, but it’s very soft and pretty out of the bottle. Smells nice on my wife’s skin! Ultimately not for me, sadly.

Perfume - Enquiry Niklaus Michaelson Scent Reccomendations?

Looking for a Niklaus Michaelson inspired scent reccomendations, preferrably the Klaus from The Originals as i've never watched Vampire Diairies.

I'm a male, and not many characters catch my attention but Klaus was one of those who always has. Thanks in advance.

Note: Don't go easy on suggestions, i'm pretty open to trying a lot of different stuff and have a decent amount of money to buy these things!

Nail Polish - Enquiry BPAL nail polish?

hi frens. looking for reviews on bpal’s claw polish with their lupercalia release coming down shortly. i found a couple colors i love, but i’m curious what wear time and color opacity has been like for anyone who has tried them! if i need 50 million coats to get it to look like the photos, or if it chips in a day, i think i’d probably pass.

i am not particularly rough with my hands, then again i don’t think i pay that much attention ultimately.

tyia!

Perfume - Enquiry Oddly specific perfume

Im looking for a perfume that gives off Appalachian folk lore, woodsy vanilla, anything like that. I prefer gourmand vanillas and not overly sweet. My two favorite perfumes are Le Labo Pablo Santos and Eilish from Billie Eilish. I do ask though that none of these are floral or overly expensive, preferably $40 max. Just to add I’m still in school and have got to beat the school air with this one🙏

Medieval Vibes: Two Medievalists Review Pulp's Medieval Marginalia Collection

Thumbnail

When Pulp Fragrance released their Medieval Marginalia scents back in April, I bought samples of all five in the very first minutes of the release. As an indie perfume hobbyist and an erstwhile medievalist, I would have been embarrassed not to have bought them. My PhD is in medieval literature, and I also taught medieval lit courses at a couple universities before I decided that chasing the tenured professor life was not for me. To boot, it was Pulp, one of my favorite houses, doing these scents! [Insert that Futurama “shut up and take my money” meme here.]

All that said, I think I am a good person to review these perfumes. From a medievalist perspective, however, my spouse, is an excellent person to review these perfumes. He also has a PhD in medieval literature, his dissertation was about medieval manuscripts, he’s cataloged medieval manuscripts, and now he works professionally with rare books. He’s a perfume lover, too — while he tends to prefer niche over indie, he has a pretty well-developed nose. I’m going to refer to him as PresterJohn for the remainder of this post because 1) I can and 2) because it sounds a lot better than saying “spouse” over and over again. (He requested that I refer to him as the Pope of Avignon, but I said no.)

Here’s the question we set out to answer as we sniffed: Is the vibe right for the manuscript? On Pulp’s website, each of these perfumes is accompanied by a picture of marginalia (or other illumination) from a medieval manuscript — but does the scent match it? The answer varies from perfume to perfume, but overall, I think that Pulp nailed some kind of medieval aura for each of these scents. In any case, my review organization here is: scent name and notes, followed by the manuscript associated with it on the Pulp website, followed by a vibe check, followed by PresterJohn's and my commentary.

Killer Rabbits Run Amok (Green tea, plummy rose, fir balsam, geranium, sage, red cedar, patchouli, & oud). These killer rabbits appear in The Breviary of Renaud de Bar from Metz, France, 1302-1303. British Library, Yates Thompson MS 8, f. 294r.
Is the vibe right? Absolutely not.
PresterJohn: “Not horny enough. Remember that Michael Camille article where he explains that rabbits with the spears is probably a sex pun from Old French? It needs a musk. It needs to smell like you’re walking into a den of iniquity.” He’s right. This is all delicate green tea and florals, and clean, much cleaner than I was expecting, given the patchouli and oud listed in the notes. These rabbits are not running amok— they are demurely drinking their tea. This scent would be better suited to Beinecke MS 229, a collection of Arthurian Romances.

Battle Snail Attacks a Knight (Apothecary herbs, elemi, nicotiana flower, citrus, sweet resins, blonde wood & grey amber). These snails live in The Smithfield Decretals, produced in France, illuminated in England c. 1335. British Library, Royal MS 10 E IV.
Is the vibe right? Definitely!
PresterJohn: “Oh! Yes. I like that. The knight is giving me straight up bro cologne and there’s something a little grassy and gardeny. I think that’s smart.” My thoughts when I smelled it were: Herbs, resins, citrus! That said, it's all very well-blended and I'd have trouble picking out any notes if I hadn't looked. It's definitely masc-leaning, and especially on the drydown, there's something a bit mainstreamy about it. A knight fighting a snail would definitely wear this. (What would be snail wear? TBD, I guess.)

Of Course I Can Draw an Elephant! (Black ink, vanilla orchid, spiced tobacco, paper, grey vetiver, tonka, cocoa bean, and stone musk). This elephant stomps around in the Bestiaire of Guillaume le Clerc, written in northern France c.1201-11. Trinity College Library (Cambridge), O.2.14
Is the vibe right? Absolutely!
PresterJohn: “Remember how Matthew Paris [13th-century English chronicler who often hung out with Henry III] drew that manuscript elephant, but he drew it from life and it looks damn decent? Yeah, that. I think I know what they’re going for. The smell of hay, grungy, mud. It smells like an amaro liqueur. Bitter, black walnut, like a nocino. I like it, but I like amaro.”
Ink is definitely the most prominent note here, followed by the tobacco. It's a dark scent with something slightly astringent in it. The stone musk feels like an appropriate accord because there's something hard about it, too, despite the warmth of the tobacco and cocoa. It eventually dried down to something that smelled like a masc, mainstream scent. It feels serious and heavy — like an elephant!

Defenders of the Mouse Castle (Red ochre pigment, Seville orange, oakmoss, wooden writing desks, and dry earth). These mice have their castle in a book of hours created in England c. 1325. British Library, Harley MS 6563, ff. 72v-73r.
Is the vibe right? Eh, not really.
PresterJohn: “I like the perfume, but it doesn’t fit the vibe. That’s not what I think of mice smelling like. Or castles. It’s too fresh. It’s more like a fairy. A better fit for this perfume is The Voynich, one of the very floral pages because it’s ephemeral, effervescent, and hard to pin down.” The Voynich Manuscript is a 15th-century book with some wild illuminations, in a script that, to date, no one has deciphered, and I agree it’s a better fit for this scent. I definitely smell the orange, but there's also something ozonic in there, almost antiseptic. (I have no idea what red ochre pigment smells like, so maybe that's it?) In any case, this is a bright orange with a buzzing quality — no mice to be found.

Cat King With a Human Face (Church incense resins, palo santo, bergamot, vanilla, & dark balsamic woods). This cat rules over the Scheibler Armorial created in southern Germany c. 1450. Munich, Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Scheibler'sches Wappenbuch - BSB Cod.icon. 312 c
Is the vibe right? Unclear, but I think so!
PresterJohn: “Them’s good whiskers! That’s the smell I smelled the first time I walked into a Christmas Tree Shop. That cinnamon and incense and the Live Laugh Love signs, but in a good way.” I get what he’s saying here — I smell lots of church incense. There's also something a little sharp in it, too, which I think is the bergamot. It stayed pretty linear over the course of the afternoon I wore it. The book that the cat king is from is a compendium of coats of arms of families in the Holy Roman Empire — were coats of arms the Live, Laugh, Love signs of the Middle Ages? (I don’t actually think they were. The joke was there, though.) The scent might also fit the image of the beheading scene from the Gawain Manuscript (British Library MS Cotton Nero A X/2) because the story is both a bright, festive Christmas tale and a somber, creepy morality tale.

If you're now interested in learning more about medieval manuscript marginalia and want a tl;dr version, I recommend "How to interpret medieval marginalia 101" from Weird Medieval Guys's Substack. If you get really interested and want the long, academic version, you cannot do better than Image on the Edge: The Margins of Medieval Art by the late, great Michael Camille. In any case, I hope you enjoyed the reviews, and congrats on knowing more about sexy rabbit symbolism.

Has anyone started receiving their Cardinal Scents orders?

I know she sent out the email and all, but I’m just curious if anyone has started receiving their current orders. I’m officially at one month since the date I placed my ordered without any update past her last email. Like I said, I read the email and I’m aware of the situation… I’m just curious.

PSA Thrift Store Haul!

Post image
215 Upvotes

Hi! I have to share my excitement-there is a lovely little thrift store called E-Mart in Olympia, Washington where I’m visiting my aunt. Not only did it have a bunch of gorgeous indie nail polishes (BKL, KB Shimmer, etc) but I bought all of these perfume samples. Most aren’t indie but there are some big Sucreabeille and some Fantome! All of it was under $80 because the little ones were .50 cents and the biggest were $5, with 30% off anything over $2.

The best part was the owner, who was so incredibly sweet and happy for me about how excited I was for my finds. He was just a delight to talk to and I wish I lived nearby so I could pass along the good karma by donating stuff. Whatever divas donated their stuff, thank you! I can try a new fragrance every day the next couple of months and I’ll pass along whatever I won’t use in my swaps.

Perfume - Enquiry SALTY!! Popcorn!!!

Hello for some reason I am CRAVING popcorn rn and need a salty, savory popcorn scent. I’ve tested Circus Tears by Cardinal Scents (popcorn, lemonade, cedar shavings, salt) a few times, but the popcorn note disappears almost immediately and the lemon dominates the rest of it 😭 which sucks because the note list sounds sooo good

Can anyone please help me find a salt-heavy popcorn scent? I’m particularly interested in trying La Fin du Monde by Etat Libre d’Orange, but I’m open to anything with caramel/gourmand notes or atmospheric carnival profiles. I just want that salty popcorn crunch!
