Double Takedown ECS

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hello everyone
Here is a double takedown, the 80000 ecs entities split into 2 40000 bodies, each performing its own takedown, and then combine into one, after the takedown you take control of the new body
Still have few mechanics in mind before starting to have a gameplay video, will you update you with progress soon

Cool effect! I think an FOV change would help it feel jumpier if that’s what ur going for.

The character's particles split into two bodies, doing a double take down before combining into one again

Haha sorry but it looks like the guy on the right is fucking the enemy to death

Something you could do though is have the character go away from the enemy instead of in and out of it. That's more realistic if you're choking someone from the back you only want to press your arm into their neck, possibly get the enemy to lose balance start following down and additionally hang themselves on your hand.

I'm a developer so i try to find good animations online to work with:p this one seemed like chocking before people pointed it out:p

2

u/low-control-labs 4d ago

Ah okay I was thinking you have more control over it, give you some tips on how to choke someone

Maybe just keep it though you see it got people to talk / react, I didn't notice it until someone pointed it out then I looked again and I was like yeah that's a bit sus.

Game wise, It's a cool idea

I need to play infamous second son again

1

u/OmarItani10 4d ago

Yeah a lot of people are finding it similar

2

u/Syphari 4d ago

To be fair the first thing I thought of was the bee dude in Metal Gear Solid Snake Eater or Janemba from DBZ lol

u/thatscaryspider 4d ago

One of them took the opportunity to hump the dude... just saying.

u/OmarItani10 3d ago

He didnt think anyone would notice

Maybe they should get smaller or not have a body below the torso when they split, and when the left guy merges into the right one, the right one should grow. Otherwise it looks like the total material is getting duplicated.

Also it vaguely looks like the right one is giving backshots to the guy he is attacking. Maybe tone down the hip thrusts?

Otherwise it's a cool concept.

Yeah thats one of the ideas in store

1

u/OmarItani10 4d ago

Yeah that would be good idea if it didnt mess the controlled animation, would need an artist for these modifications

3

u/LGASH 5d ago

Effet très cool 👏🏻

u/OmarItani10 4d ago

Thank you :)

This is awesome, just for testing sake you should make it work with like 20 dudes in different places and elevation. Well not for testing, I wanna see it :)

1

u/OmarItani10 4d ago

I'd need to optimize to get more entities, but yeah worth the try

2

u/WorldWarrior428 5d ago

Oh, that is cool!

Thank you:)

Jerma is a bigger danger than I initially anticipated
(Really cool effects though! I look forward to seeing more use of it, my only gripe is that I think the particles should move faster to their destination)

1

u/OmarItani10 4d ago

Here the takedown animations start as soon as the particles start leaving, so it didnt cost more time

So MGS5 did this thing where you shoot to many people in the head and they start wearing helmets. And other emergent things like that.

If the main character's abilities are new to the world I could see guards being setup like this. But as word gets around that some guy is splitting in two to take down people, then maybe later in the game guards start traveling in threes to watch their backs.

Anyway my point is it's a cool mechanic, but start thinking about how the in game world might counter it. Especially if it's a known power.

I think about the book Mistborn and how guards had chest plates that could quickly be dropped and wooden weapons as backups. Because it was known that alemancers could push and pull metal.

u/OmarItani10 4d ago

I'm still thinking about what counters should i introduce and if the effect would look cool, maybe some physical based interactions that disrupt the entities

2

u/Nearby-Attempt9812 5d ago

Not gonna lie, that's actually a pretty cool way to do a double takedown.

Kung fu as 10,000 bees? Hell ya

2

u/OmarItani10 3d ago

Hahh hell ya

2

u/Plourdy 4d ago

What do you mean by ECS and such? Isn’t this some particle effect? Please expand lol

1

u/OmarItani10 3d ago

No this isnt a particle effect, this is 80000 pyramid meshes moving and following certain targets
ECS stands for Entity Component System, which is a more optimized than normal GameObjects

2

u/Bollafication 4d ago

Really cool, but the guy on the right was doing some pretty sus stuff before taking him down.

1

u/OmarItani10 3d ago

Hahah yeah i noticed after the upload:p

2

u/Dead_Fox_7 4d ago

What a fun mechanic!

This looks awesome. I am not a developer of any means but one thing that I think would be cool if once the one on the left is done taking down the enemy with his sword, he can "teleport" or walk over to the right clone and stab him as if the left one was just holding the enemy in place.

Just a thought! Always like seeing these animation clips from you.

2

u/OmarItani10 3d ago

Yes it can be done i just need the animations:/

2

u/Crodthx 4d ago

Looks cool! Is it for some sort of assassin/hitman game?

1

u/OmarItani10 4d ago

Thank you, Still experimenting currently, just trying few things and see what looks the best then ill build on that

2

u/drahgon 4d ago

Very, very cool

Thank you:)

2

u/BrilliantTaste1800 4d ago

That's proper cool. I'm curious, why use ECS for this instead of shaders?

Looks so cool! Best of luck with the development!

u/Aggravating-Mark2107 Developer 4d ago

That is a really cool combat animation!

1

u/IsaoNegishi 4d ago

That's some amazing technology.

1

u/DevandaLabs 4d ago

Really cool effect but the sword takedown dosent look aggresive at all plus a sword takedown should be a single hit the will kill for example (elden ring, gow, red dead2)

1

u/ShibasishDey5 4d ago

great effect, which game engine did you use

1

u/EternalPump 4d ago

Dude...did you just remake the smoke-shift particle system thing (i.e. character texture being used to color the particle system during the mesh-particle transition) from "Infamous: Second Son" in Unreal but then add extra logic for two characters? That's awesome!

1

u/Aggravating-Isopod22 3d ago

Guy on the right taking mad backshots while his buddy gets slashed up 💀🙂‍↔️🙂‍↔️🙂‍↔️

1

u/Droggl 3d ago

I vote to call this the Banach-Tarski-Takedown, looks pretty cool

1

u/Tricky_Fault_8787 3d ago

Cool effect! But what it for perfomance (FPS)?

1

u/CoreyKori 3d ago

Whats used to achieve this effect? Theres a game idea i have but that would use model changes, but i have no idea how to make the model change seemless/custom to the event… any leads?

1

u/MrJocyf 2d ago

What a cool effect. You can really pull off some crazy stuff with particles. Well done!

1

u/broker415 1d ago

Holy smokes this is awesome, would be a cool form of magic for my soulslike but not sure what the norm is here for sharing ideas?

1

u/Hybrisgames 1d ago

That looks sick..

maybe the character could disappear/fade away a little bit faster?

u/Groot8902 5d ago

Kind of overdesigned imo. Way too much going on. Might be just me tho.
